The female did not belong in these lands.. Or at least thats what she was told by some of the snottier cubs in the lands. She wasn't brightly hued like the rest of them.. Their bright oranges and yellows, they were truly gorgeous. But she, she was the ugly black color with the vibrant markings.
She thought she was ugly, even though Mawu tried to tell her how beautiful she was. Mawu, her mother, had given her the black color that she was. Juno felt a sort of kinship to her dark mother, and her dark sister. She felt sorry for her sister, who had it even worse than she did. Her sister were all sorts of greys and blacks, with yellow here and there. Beautiful to the world, but another ugly duckling to the pride.
Unlike Juno, her sister loved the pride. She revelled in the fact that she was different, where Juno wanted nothing more than to be the same bright hue of the rest of the lions.
She looked into the water, gazing at her reflection. Her paw came down on the waters surface, rippling the reflection away. She stood with a Humph, and began wandering back towards the adults. She had not left her lands, but she had taken some time away from the big lions of the pride. Sometimes, they could even be more mean than the cubs. But she stood tall, flicking her red tipped tail as she stared out with limegreen eyes.
She may have been the ugly duckling, but Juno had some talents up her sleeves that almost made up for it.

This female belonged in these lands absolutely beautifully. Her heart, for the first time in her life, was in a place of happiness and pure contentment. This was a pride where she 'fit,' despite her low rank and choice of clan.
The fact that other lions in the pride (most likely direct relatives to the queens and the ancestors who had created this pride in the first place) had brighter pelts than she. They all were the same on the inside; the outside colors and variations only counted towards what rank each female held. And Kali was perfectly happy holding the one she had.
As she walked along a path, she heard a small 'hmph!' and a slight splash of water. The lioness peeked through the trees, mildly curious, to see what had caused such sounds. It was a cub.
"Mad at the world, youngling?" she ventured as a greeting, though haphazardly and definitely half-heartedly. It wasn't like her to make willing conversation, but for a cub, she could be different.

She hadnt been expecting anyone to hear her tantrum, and she looked up at the older lioness with a stammering voice. But she quickly decided that being nervous was in no way a good way to meet your elders. She was pretty. Not as brightly hued as the rest of the pride, but her tans and greens meshed well together, and Juno could just tell that she wasnt the Ugly Duckling.
"No, ma'am." She spoke, trying to remember the manners her mother had taught her.
"Im just tired of being told Im ugly..Stupid cubs.' She groaned. Though so much for manners. The cub was so much of a tomboy, that she rarely acted like a girl at all. She didnt care if she was ugly, she was tired of hearing it regardless.
"Who needs bright colors, when you have super smarts!" She smiled, wriggling her little butt.

Kali couldn't help but wrinkle her nose at being called 'ma'am.' She wasn't lying when she said the proper endearment made her feel older than she really was. But she ignored it for now.
"Of course they're stupid cubs," she replied, stepping forward from the trees she had been walking through. The little female had been sitting by a small hole in the ground, filled with water from that last rainfall. That would explain the splash she had heard. "Everyone's pretty in their own way."
Kali raised an eyebrow and couldn't help the small smirk that rose on her face when the cub announced her 'super smarts.' "Exactly. You're pretty, just in the way you're smart." She was being nice, surprisingly. Too nice, even, but she couldn't pull a 'I'm higher rank than you are, cub' thing on the girl since they were of the same rank. That was kinda...pointless.
And she was just a cub, for the gods' sakes. She wasn't that cold-hearted, was she?

She chuckled, and nodded. She hadnt meant to sound like she thought very little of herself.. In fact the younger female was very proud of her life, and her future. She was hoping to one day explore.. She wanted to see outside these lands.
Her lime green eyes sparkled as she listened to the older lioness. She was pretty, and she half wondered if she fit in any better than Juno's own black pelt. She'd never ask, momma would see that as rude. But she was admiring the others colors, even if they werent as bright as most around.
"Oh I know, Im going to have a future one day." She nodded with a bright smile.
"So whats your name? I dont think Ive ever seen you before." She said curiously.
