my sons first birthday is on the 16th, but sincemy mom isn't coming till xmas we decided to have a little party for him when he is here. I thought some of you might have some ideas about fun first birthdays. id like him to have as much fun as he can even if he wont be remebering it. gotta make the pictures looks good. also im trying to think of good first birthday gifts. He is learning to walk but still falls qite a bit. and he loves musical toys and loves to climb. Im stumped over getting the exspeniive outdoor slide/swing thing he can climb and play on, or getting like a little piano and other blocks, and small things, hmmm quantity or quality..lol. one idea i did have though for xmas was to wrap several empty boxes with just bells or jingly things and paper inside taht he can just have fun wrippingteh wrapping apart to get inide.
so any suggestions. what did you get yours for the first birthday??

Since he's just learning to walk you may want to think about a toy that will help him with that. At my baby shower I actually had a friend give me a stride-to-ride walker. When my daughter was little is was something that she could hold on to push around and help her walk, now that she's older it's adjusted so that she can ride on it. It doesn't look much like a car, but that's what she calls it. *giggle*

Also maybe a baby gym; they have some that are more than just ones that you can lay baby on the floor to play with.

As for fun stuff. One tradition in my family (and Hubby's) is to make a cake just for the one year old. This way s/he has a cake to play with and eat and make messes with, and then you have a cake for everyone else to eat.

Oh im defintly giving him his own cake..which will be different since he never really has sweets. Iv alrady got him a walk/ride thing though he likes it alot. I dont really know about the gym thing? the only ones ive seen are the ones for infants..he is a pretty tall boy, i mean he comes up past my waist already(granted imnot that tall just 5 ft2) and he's pretty aggresive so he gets kinda rough with things, i need stuff thats really stable and can take a beating. If you have any product names of theese more involved gyms though id like to know so i can research it ??

If you have an Albertson's grocery near you they offer a free 'smasher' bday cake for kids first bdays! (it's just a single layer round) My son's bdays are only 1 month apart (12/15 & 1/15) so when my little one turned 1, I had them match the free smasher to my older son's Buzz Lightyear cake and we celebrated together. It turned out really cute! I will have to post up a pic of how messy he got one of these days xd
If you don't have an Albertson's you could call around to the other grocers. Many of them offer a similar deal for first bdays.

I think your idea about bells and scraps of paper in the presents is a GREAT idea. Kids always want to play in boxes and stuff.

My babies first bday is coming up on the 24th of this month!!! I am wondering what theme to do as well. As far as toys I am leaning towards getting her Leapfrog toys. (I found them at ToysRUs). They have one that is a little drum that has different settings. One is for letters and each time the baby hits the drum it lights up a letter of the alphabet in order. A...B...C.. and so on. You can do numbers as well, or just music and I think there are 1 or 2 other settings. Its something your kid can beat on that teaches them as well! We got my daugher some magnetic letters for the fridge for Christmas and she just LOVES those, well loves ripping them off that is! Also at ToysRUs they have a magnetic barn for the fridge. Its also electronic and the animals are in halves so when you put an animal together correctly you then touch each side and it tells you that you made a correct match and makes the sound of the animal.
I also heard from my sister in law that they make a animal play thing that you put the animal on a mat of some sort and it has 2 different settings, 1) It makes the noise of the animal or 2) It says the name of the animal. I have to check wtih her where to buy that from though.

My daughter seems to like things that make noise though so I thought these were good options for her. I think heading to ToysRUs, and any toy store in your area and looking in the infant/preschool area is a great place to start. 3nodding

Actually I realize too late now that the birthday has already passed, but maybe my advice can help anyways? Or help others? heh. redface

heart My baby's 1st birthday is on 31 mar. We arn't too sure as to what theme to use. She really dosn't have a favorite toy or any thing. I decorated 2 Elmo cakes for my 2 year old's birthday celebration. They turned out better than I had expected!! I am leaning tward Teddy bears only becaause I can't come up with anything else and time is ticking!! sweatdrop
