Discussion

Why to be a Spearman:

Pros*
-Most range out of any Warrior class
-Spears are cheaper than 2h Swords
-Great PQ skills by 2nd Job
-Strongest raw attack out of any Warrior class
-Most MP out of all Warriors
-Many multiple hit moves
-Spears do extra damage when stabbing, Polearms do extra damage when slashing

Cons*
-Weapons are slow
-Spears do less damage when slashing, Polearms do less damage when stabbing
-Hardest class to use
-Min. and Max. damage range is large
-Lowest defense out of all Warrior classes
-Boring for some until 3rd job
-Missing can be a problem

Choosing between Spear and Polearm:

Spear Pros*
-Stabbing is faster
-Most Spearman are pure spear

Spear Cons*
-Stabbing/Slashing ratio is 3:2, so less damage (until 3rd job)
-Spears get to be expensive

Polearm Pros*
-Stabbing/Slashing ratio is 3:2, so more damage
-Polearms are less expensive

Polearm Cons*
-Less damage when stabbing
-Not many others in this section of Spearman

Levels 1-10 (Beginner Job)

Beginner Island is pretty simple. Talk to EVERY NPC, accept and finish EVERY quest, and you'll be level 10 before you know it. You don't have to worry about death, guilds, parties, families, etc. And you'll have some sweet items, like The Relaxer, that you'll use for a while.

AP Distribution*
Don't worry about your AP (Ability Points). You can put it all in INT if you wished in Beginner Island. When you exit the island and talk to "Dances with Balrogs" (Warrior Job Instructor), he will reset every point of your AP and you'll be able to place it in the correct spots.

But if you would still like to be serious on the Island, doing Auto is recommended. It basically places all 5 of your points into STR until a certain point, where it places 4 into STR and 1 into DEX.

SP Distribution*
A beginner only gets 6 SP (Skill Points), and 3 skills (each with 3 SP MAX). Keep in mind that you will probably only use these skills on Beginner Island, and then never again.

Three Snails:
This skill throws a snail shell at the enemy to inflict damage.
Lv. 1: Green Shell, -10 MP, 10 Damage
Lv. 2: Blue Shell, -15 MP, 25 Damage
Lv. 3: Red Shell, -20 MP, 40 Damage

**This skill is very useful for when you're on Beginner Island because it will destroy the higher level monsters on the island in 2-3 hits. You also do not have to have any shells in your inventory to use this skill.

Recovery:
Recovers your HP constantly for 30 seconds.
Lv. 1: -10 MP, 24 HP healed total
Lv. 2: -20 MP, 48 HP healed total
Lv. 3: -30 MP, 72 HP healed total

**This skill, in my opinion, is useless. You can heal more HP than that with some of the potions that will be given to you on the island. And after you obtain The Relaxer from Pio, you'll be able to heal 50 HP every 10 seconds.

Nimble Feet:
Lv. 1: MP -10, Speed +10 for 4 sec.
Lv. 2: MP -15, Speed +15 for 8 sec.
Lv. 3: MP -20, Speed +20 for 12 sec.

**The most useful beginner skill in my opinion. Allows you to walk faster, albeit for a short period of time. The only skill I use off of beginner island, at least until you get Speed equips.

Whichever one of those skills you choose to put your 6 SP in is 100% your decision. My suggestions are but that: suggestions. Feel free to customize your beginner skills however you would like.

Levels 11-30 (Warrior Job)

After you've gotten off of Beginner Island, you'll find yourself in a town on Victoria Island called Lith Harbor. Finish any remaining quests you got in Beginner Island (i.e. the ones where you talk to Olaf), and take EVERY quest that Olaf has to give you. They'll give you experience and information about becoming a Warrior.

Find your way to Perion, and make your way to the top of the city. Enter, and talk to Dances With Balrogs. He will turn you into a Warrior, grant you 1 SP for your new Warrior Skills, and reset your AP.

AP Distribution*
AP distribution for Spearman is complicated. You can generally choose between 3 options: Dexless (4 Dex), Low Dex (Capped at 60), High Dex (Capped at 80).

Dexless:
Keeping only 4 DEX and putting every AP point you get for the rest of your Mapling days into STR. I suggest only doing this if you are VERY well funded and can buy alot of +DEX equips. Dexless Spearman miss ALOT. ALOTALOTALOT. Higher level monsters will be almost impossible to hit, but when they do it will be a TON of damage. Zakum Helms are a DEXless Spearmans godsend.

Low DEX:
If you go for low DEX, put your AP into 2 DEX and 3 STR each level. By the time you reach level 30, you will have 60 DEX. Most Spearman choose to go low DEX, because you will still be able to hit most monsters and do a great amount of damage. Some +DEX equips are helpful.

High DEX:
High DEX means put your AP into 2 DEX and 3 STR until level 30, then 1 DEX and 4 STR until level 50. High DEX is rare, because people generally choose Spearman for their high attack. High DEX will make your attack lower than it's possibility. You will, however, be able to hit practically everything that you aim for.

**Remember that these are just suggestions. I've seen Spearman who choose to just go 2 DEX 3 STR for their entire Mapling career. What you choose is your options. You can also go Med DEX (70 DEX), etc.

SP Distribution*

NOTE: I'm not going to go into the level-by-level statistics of each skill. If you would like to know that for any skill, throw me a PM or post here and I'll message it to you.

Here is my recommended SP distribution for Warrior skills. Almost every Warrior in Maple Story follows by this:

Level 10: +1 Improving HP Recovery
Level 11: +3 Improving HP Recovery
Level 12: +1 Improving HP Recovery, +2 Improving MAX HP
Level 13: +3 Improving MAX HP
Level 14: +3 Improving MAX HP
Level 15: +2 Improving MAX HP, +1 PowerStrike**
Level 16: +1 SlashBlast**, +2 PowerStrike
Level 17: +3 PowerStrike
Level 18: +3 PowerStrike
Level 19: +3 PowerStrike
Level 20: +3 PowerStrike
Level 21: +3 PowerStrike
Level 22: +2 PowerStrike, +1 SlashBlast
Level 23: +3 SlashBlast
Level 24: +3 SlashBlast
Level 25: +3 SlashBlast
Level 26: +3 SlashBlast
Level 27: +3 SlashBlast
Level 28: +3 SlashBlast
Level 29: +3 Endure
Level 30: +3 Endure
**You can MAX these two in whatever order you wish.

Explanation:
MAXing MAX HP is your first priority. This skill gives you an HP increase with each time you level, and the faster you get this up, the more overall HP you'll have. But you can't put SP into until you have 5 points in Recovery. After you have MAX HP MAXed, you'll move onto SlashBlast and PowerStrike. These are your two attacks, and you'll be using them for a very very very long time. PowerStrike uses MP to deal a strong critical blow to a monster. SlashBlast uses HP and MP to deal a strong blow to EVERY monster in your weapons radius. This means that if there are 5 monsters within your reach, you will hit all 5 of them at once. The first point in Endure give you a slight HP boost, and the rest are for in the future if you ever go AFK. Endure heals you while you hang on a rope/ladder over time. All skills, except PS and SB, are passive skills.

Levels 31-70 (Spearman Job)

Once you've reached level 30, head back to Dances With Balrogs for your 2nd job test. He will teleport you to a map and tell you to find 30 marbles that monsters in this map will drop. Talk to the guy in the map, who will send you back to Dances With Balrogs, who you should talk to, who will make you into a Spearman! Congradulations! You'll get HP and MP bonuses, along with 1 SP.

AP Distribution*
Read the part in Levels 11-30 (Warrior Job). That covers your AP for the rest of your career as a Spearman.

SP Distribution*

NOTE: Again, I'm not going into skill level-by-level stats. If you want that information, post here or throw me a PM and I'll send it to you.

There are 3 1/2 types of Spearman you can become: Pure Spear, Pure Polearm, or Hybrid. The '1/2' means if you choose to do PQ skills first, or strength skills first. Choosing one first or the other will not affect your overall attack, etc, in any way.

Pure Spear Build:
Level 31: 3 Spear Mastery
Level 32: 3 Spear Mastery
Level 33: 3 Spear Mastery
Level 34: 3 Spear Mastery
Level 35: 3 Spear Mastery
Level 36: 3 Spear Mastery
Level 37: 2 Spear Mastery, 1 Spear Booster

Level 50: 3 Final Attack
Level 51: 3 Final Attack
Level 52: 3 Final Attack

Level 67: 3 Iron Will
Level 68: 3 Iron Will
Level 69: 3 Iron Will
Level 70: 3 Iron Will
**For PQ Skills first, MAX these two skills before the others

Explanation:
Spear Mastery is a passive skill that increases accuracy and attack when a spear is equipped. Spear Booster is a use skill that increases your spear's attack speed, which is very useful. Final Attack is a controversial skill, whereas some people dislike it. It is a passive skill that throws in a second attack after the first one for greater damage, but it throws off your "attack equilibrium," if you will. Hyper Body is the most useful and desired skill of all Spearman skills, and is sought after by every party. It drastically raises your max HP and MP, and when MAXed, it increases almost double for a long time, for every party member. Iron Will increases the defense of every party member.

Pure Polearm Build:
Level 31: 3 Polearm Mastery
Level 32: 3 Polearm Mastery
Level 33: 3 Polearm Mastery

Level 54: 1 Final Attack, 2 Iron Will**
Level 55: 1 Iron Will, 2 Hyper Body**
Level 56: 3 Hyper Body
Level 57: 3 Hyper Body
Level 58: 3 Hyper Body
Level 59: 3 Hyper Body
Level 60: 3 Hyper Body
Level 61: 3 Hyper Body
Level 62: 3 Hyper Body
Level 63: 3 Hyper Body
Level 64: 3 Hyper Body
Level 65: 1 Hyper Body, 2 Iron Will
Level 66: 3 Iron Will
Level 67: 3 Iron Will
Level 68: 3 Iron Will
Level 69: 3 Iron Will
Level 70: 3 Iron Will
**For PQ Skills first, MAX these two skills before the others

Explanation:
Polearm Mastery is a passive skill that increases accuracy and attack when a polearm is equipped. Polearm Booster is a use skill that increases your polarms's attack speed, which is very useful. Same as Pure Spear Build, only different skill names.

Hybrid Build:

NOTE: A = whichever you want to MAX first. B = the other option.

Level 31: 3 A Mastery
Level 32: 3 A Mastery
Level 33: 3 A Mastery

Level 63: 3 Hyper Body
Level 64: 3 Hyper Body
Level 65: 3 Hyper Body
Level 66: 3 Hyper Body
Level 67: 3 Hyper Body
Level 68: 1 Hyper Body, 2 Iron Will
Level 69: 3 Iron Will
Level 70: 3 Iron Will
**For PQ Skills first, MAX these two skills before the others

Explanation:
First thing you do is MAX Booster and Mastery of Spear and Polearm, to ensure you get max stat boosts for whichever weapon you use. You might notice the lack of Final Attack also. Final Attack isn't used since most Spearman want Hyper Body, but if you want Final Attack you can switch Hyper Body out for it, or do half-in-half. Iron Will only gets enough at first to start putting into Hyper Body.

Training Spots

Levels 1-10*

Beginner Island:
Your training is very limited, but with what you have, you won't be at these levels long. Snails, Stumps, Slimes, Pigs, and Orange Mushrooms are your options here. Those monsters are listed from lowest exp to most.

Levels 11-30*

Dungeon, Southern Forest I:
The Slime Tree by Ellinia. Great spawn, not the easiest to maneuver, but not hard either. Slimes everywhere. Recommended until about level 18.

Pig Beach:
A hidden map, but most players know where to find it, so just ask. A seemingly infinate spawn of Pigs and Ribbon Pigs, but watch out. Every so often, an Iron Hog spawns every so often, who will damage you ALOT. Recommended from levels 15-25.

Ant Tunnels 1-4:
Careful; Sleepywood can be a new Mapler's biggest nightmare, as it is deep and hard to navigate. The Zombie Mushrooms and Horny Mushrooms are great spawn and great training, but stay near the top the lower the level you are. Don't go deeper until you gain more levels, around 30. Recommended from levels 25-30.

Excavation Site 3:
Great place for mobbing (using SlashBlast). Wooden Masks and Stone Masks have great drops, meaning the drop alot of money and alot of good items. The spawn is great too, but it is slightly annoying to get around. Recommended from levels 25-30.

Party Quests:
*Henesys Party Quest: Levels 10-20
Kerning City Party Quest: Levels 25-30
*Ariant Party Quest: Levels 20-30

Levels 31-70*

Land of the Wild Boar:
A hidden map, but very easy to find. Filled with Wild Boars running everywhere, great spawn for SlashBlast and very flat. The Jr. Boogies can be annoying though, and their spells can be very troublesome. Recommended from levels 30-40.

Evil Eye Caves 1-4:
An amazing training zone, if you have funds for lots of pots. Evil Eyes are EVERYWHERE for 4 entire maps, plus the occasional Jr. Boogie. Requires alot of jumping, but it's worth it. Recommended from levels 30-40.

Gardens of Red, Yellow and Blue I:
Jr. Cellions, Jr. Lioners, and Jr. Grupers respectively with the maps. Alright spawn, and great experience. They drop some good money also. Kind of a potion burner, but the experience makes up for it. Recommended from levels 35-45.

Eos Tower Floor 8:
Great training place. Blocktopus at the top, and Block Golems at the bottom for mobbing. The the time you're killing all of one, all of the other have respawned. Kind of jumpy, but amazing experience. Recommended from levels 40-50.

Beginner Field:
Straw Target Dummies are an amazing monster to train on. Fantastic money, fantastic experience, fantastic map. Perfectly flat, however many other people might be training there too. PowerStrike is usually best. Don't train here if you can't defeat them in 1-2 hits, however. Recommended from levels 40-50.

Watch out for Icy Path I:
Jr. Yetis, something that is nothing compared to it's daddy. Great map to train, requires some DEX. Have lots of health, but good experience. Watch out for the Hectors, they bite, but you can still take them. Recommended from levels 50-60.

Mountain Cliffs:
Gryphons are annoying, but there's TONS of them and they have great experience. The map is annoying as all hell, and if you touch the wrong spot it will warp you back to the previous map. But if you can navigate it, SlashBlast will earn you many points. Might burn pots though. Recommended from levels 50-70.

Drake's Meal Table:
Deep into Sleepywoods caverns, but there's alot of them, and many kinds. They hit kind of big, so you might use alot of potions, but they drop good money and items, and they fall easily. You can mob them really well here. Recommended from levels 55-65.

The Forest of Golem:
Another Sleepywood map, but it's hidden. Stone Golems everywhere, and there's multiple maps to go down to that include Dark Stone Golems and Mixed Golems. They have great experience and drop good items, but hit sort of high. You need some DEX to be here. Recommended from levels 60-70.

Party Quests:
*Monster Carnival: Levels 31-50
Orbis Party Quest: Levels 51-55
*Ludibrium Maze Party Quest: Levels 51-70

NOTE: Party quests are a fantastic way to get quick experience and leveling, and in some cases, rare items. Starred Party Quests are my favorites and are, in my opinion, the best ones to level on in my recommended levels.
