He couldn’t quite recall how he ended up on a short stretch of shore with mild waves lapping sand like tongues. Or what drove him to shed his clothing in a hurry, the hand drum making a solid thump when it hit the forgiving sand, and he had hit water before the skin had stop vibrating its displeasure. Charging over small pebbles till he hit open sand and the water sucked him under, unbalanced in the depth. It felt good.

Brishen rose coughing water, a hand pushing back the damp dark curls finally reaching a decent length after the whole ‘lice’ plague. The water was pleasantly warm, the area secluded surrounded by trees. Tranquil. Just what was needed after all the rushing, running, blahh. He toppled back into the water, grunting at the hard splashing smack of water before surfacing again.

Enough thinking. He pushed off, swimming strongly out towards the horizon to work of some of energy keeping him from sleeping. The action of cutting though water, sun baking wet skin, scent of brine, all brought back remnants of memories. Relaxing after a hot exhausting day of forge work, laughing as Rom lost her sculpted sand castle. Sore loose muscles and well feed stomachs.

“Really should have brought someone out here with me.” Brishen lament in good nature grumbling, heading back to the shore. “The beach is best with company.”

Coming out of the cold of between, as always, L'ior was shivering just a bit and holding his breath, eyes squeezed shut.

You should trust me more, L'ior-mine, chided Dioth breezily, as if I would ever lose us between. The blue wingspan stretched wide, and quiet as a sigh, Dioth landed himself on the beach, claws digging into the wet sand now. And you needed to relax. This is the perfect place, isn't it?

L'ior had to agree. It was still hot, he thought, but this place had actual water -- and turning to one side while still perched atop Dioth's back to pry his boots off before hopping down. It was Ista territory, sure, but he really couldn't see anyone being angry at him for just wanting to have a swim, right?

With a splash, L'ior waded out into the water, sighing with relief. This is nice... we'll have to keep coming here...

I know, mine, replied Dioth with a rumble of contentment as he sank down to bask in the sun and the damp sand.

'Did I just wish a dragon and companion in existence?' 'Rish slipped closer to the curving shore line, seeking shade to shelter his eyes from the sun as he watched the blue fly above, landing on his ‘secluded beach’. "Damn," he breathed playing with the idea to gripe a bit more and see if he could wish up some crabs to just walk into the fire.

Neither rider nor the blue seemed to have realized they had company. The blue seemed content to bask and the rider seemed to be happy wading in the water. Brishen’s brow furled trying to recall a name for the rider and failed. He shrugged, before swimming out to the man.

“Oi! Hello!” He called, feet touching bottom and water just a bit below his shoulders. He waved cheerfully before trying to get curls out of his eyes. "Nice day for a swim isn't it?"

With a yelp, L'ior jumped a bit at the sight of the other, causing a fantastic splash and Dioth to lift his head, watching his, before L'ior put a hand to his chest, drawing a deep breath. "It is," replied the rider with a sheepish if luminous smile, "though I think you nearly scared an extra five Turns off my life, surfacing like some great fish." His rolled-up trousers and tunic had suffered a bit with his own splashing, but otherwise, he did not seem any the worse for wear. "I've only been here once before," he said with a chuckle, "so I was half afraid you'd be someone here to scold." Not every Weyr, he was aware, was as strict as Igen -- but then, it hardly mattered.

Did you think I would bring you someplace you would be in trouble, mine? If Dioth's voice had not been sinking towards drowsiness, it might have held a hint of hurt.

No! replied L'ior hastily, and laughed aloud, awkwardly. "I'm from Igen, you see. Mine brought me here because I was looking for a good swim."

His jaw worked soundlessly before he fell back in joyful laughter, not the smartest thing to do in water, he came up choking and shaking water ouf of his eyes and hair. "Ooohh, scold?" He breath out nearly soundless making his way towards land, earth, sand, something that wasn't going to choke him if he fell over again.

He collapsed on the sandy bar, head tilted back to get his breath, legs sprawled. "Scold, I don't think I have the proper authority for that." He grinned hazel eyes cheerful. "But, you came to the right place for a swim. I'm not even sure how I found it." Really, he couldn't remember how he got to the beach.

Sheepish, and fairly certain the other was laughing at him, L'ior ducked his head, shoulders drawing upward a bit as he bit his own lip, laughing. "Dioth knew the place; we must have flown over it at some point," he said sheepishly, and moved back toward the sand as well, sitting down just above the water level and stretching his feet out into the surf with a smile. "It seems almost perfect. Sometimes one just needs to soak up the water..." The blue dragon, curling comfortably a bit further up the beach, whuffled a bit in agreement, satisfied.

"I'm L'ior, by the by," said the rider, startled back as he realized he hadn't introduced him. "And that is Dioth." Gesturing at the blue with a warm smile, he nodded to the younger boy with a chuckle. "Whose swimming have we interrupted?"

"Brishen, but please I prefer Rish." He waved a hand lazily from his seat, digging toes in the wet muck. "I'm a candiate for Ista...and probably should put some clothes back on." He added as he found his feet shaking himself briskly, shedding drops of sea water. "But it is a pleasure L'ior, Dioth," he said heading towards the scattered articles.

"You surprised me actually, appearing just," he paused tugging his shirt on, "out of between when I was complaining about the lack of company. And since it seems I have luck at the moment. I wish for a few crabs to cook for dinner." He paused, eyeing the pants, prodding them with a foot. "Would it offend you if I just went about in a shirt?" He questioned, looking over at L'ior.

"Well met, then, Rish," L'ior said warmly, and began to undo his own tunic's laces, tugging them over his head. He wanted to swim, and the cloth would weigh him down -- though the other seemed inclined to go in naked, L'ior had enough shame to keep at least some of his clothes on. Against the somewhat tanned chest was a rather deep, wicked scar that had been there for a long time, a white mark that had raked deeply into the skin. "Of course not," he agreed. Though Rish was young, he was glad the other was at least wearing a shirt, as his eyes did tend to wander -- a fact that brought a blush to the older man's freckled cheeks. Setting aside his tunic, he also tugged the bandana out of the end of his braid. He wouldn't want to lose that while swimming, of course!

Lazy Dioth's mind was full of amusement at his rider's curiosity, despite -- and perhaps because of -- L'ior's embarrassment.

"Good, it's a bit difficult to swim in pants." He causally swept his pants, sandals, and drum aside but not before tapping the drums skin, listening to the resounding boom. His mad dash had not damaged it. Good.

Turning in a snap of feet, Brishen raced down the beach and back into the water, grinning like mad and gently tugged on L'ior arm when the rider came in reach. "Come on L'ior, ditch your things and come deeper into the water. It feels good." Mischievous hazel eyes gleamed, curls matted against skin from the weight of water. "Dioth welcome to come as well." He shrugged, shoulders making the nude weave shift a bit down his shoulder.

At the thundering sound of the drum, L'ior laughed a bit. "Not at all; you'll find most riders lack much body shame. I suppose I shall shed my clothes as well," he capitulated with a little burr of amusement in his tone. The tunic, bandanna, and trousers were tossed further up, away from the tideline and closer to Dioth as he let the other man tug him along, smiling. "You would thank me." The impulsiveness of the younger man would rub off on L'ior for now. Besides, no one else was watching, and it would be pleasant to feel so utterly free

I will stay here, L'iormine, rumbled Dioth contentedly. Though I will come if you need me.

Watch my things for me, returned L'ior sheepishly, as he was tugged more deeply into the water. At Dioth's agreement, he felt weight lifting from his shoulders. "So it's spiderclaws we're after, then? Or just a swim?"

"Pppht, if my luck holds we will find them all in line after our swim." He grinned, continuing to tug the rider along till the water reached a bit passed his hip. Brishen leaned back allowing his weight to topple him under the waves, keeping a firm grip on L'ior's arm in an attempt to bring the rider down with him.

It was best to get completely wet as soon as possible.

Lined up on the beach? That was a bit optimistic, he thought, even for him. But then, Brishen was not a fool, was he? The thoughts skittered through his mind as they headed out deeper into the blue waters. It was just like him to get preoccupied like that. Still, yelping, L'ior flailed a bit as the other's weight pulled at his arm, thrown off balance. "W-wait -- ack!" Overbalanced, the absentminded rider simply toppled over, winding up with a mouthful of salt water for his trouble and thoroughly doused.

Brishen surfaced from his own ducking, shaking water from his eyes. He kicked off, swimming in a lazy circle, shirt sticking to tanned skin. "Now you are wet all over," he paused in his swimming, running his eyes across the skin. Yum. Why did he get to go around nude? Not that Brishen was complaining.

"Ahh, yes, we can get down to swimming." Brishen shook his curls, sending a wave of water at L'ior. "Or, we can attempt to wrestle,” a grin snaked its way across his face. “I’m sure we are slippery enough to make it a challenge.”
PostPosted: Wed Sep 16, 2009 8:17 pm

Spluttering, L'ior shook his head like a wet canine, his glossy black hair now plastered to his cheeks. He was laughing, though, despite his surprise. "Hah!" he laughed, "wrestling? In the water? I'm not very good at fighting, I'm afraid. You'd just roll me over." Still, playfully, he splashed at the other, stretching contentedly out and sliding under the water to avoid retaliation. He was no fantastic swimmer, but he could propel himself well enough, and was unlikely to drown anytime soon.

"It would not be fighting. More along the lines of seeing who can duck who first." Brishen followed following at a easy pace. "So what Igen like? Have you meet Favan yet?" He knew quite a few riders had left with the queen but he had not know many of them. "Hmmm...How long have you and Dioth been partners?" He paused, flipping to he was just floating contently on his back.
