Quote: Prompt 2. Your hatred for Tiamat grows as you hear of her new plan. What is it and why does it affect you so? The wind lifts my wings higher as I soar over Fuchiyomi Forest, gazing down into the near pitch-black produced by the barely swaying trees. I see almost nothing that resides in the forest, which is to be expected for the thickets of trees are so lush, it seems as though the entire woods is filled with them and nothing else. From the sky, one can only see green and black and maybe a sliver of sunlight here and there. However, I can feel something. Though my eyes detect nothing, my heart says that there is somewhere I need to be. Quickly, I swoop down and inspect the forest at a closer level.
My efforts are to no avail. Even at this altitude, details of the forest’s contents are too hard to make out. I am forced to find an opening through the trees and land on the pine needle-covered ground. The moment my claws touch the dirt, I can feel the sense of danger even stronger. It is like an ill wind sweeping over me and even with my thick fur, I shiver. The stillness makes the forest seem calm and welcoming but I know the truth. It is like the silence before the storm. Trouble is brewing. Something horrible is going to happen if I do not stop it soon.
Suddenly, I hear a sound. It is quiet, almost nonexistent, but with my years of watching over others, I have honed my senses. I crouch down and listen harder. It is the sound of broken pine needles and dry leaves. Someone is walking through the forest a ways off. No, wait. Not someone. It is a group of humans…or maybe even something else. I do not know who or what it is exactly but I can tell that they mean harm. One’s first instinct is to flee from peril but I can feel in my bones that I am needed. I sneak closer.
As I crawl slowly towards the sound, hoping the thickness of the trees will hide me, I catch a glimpse of the source of evil. My worst fears have been realized. It is Tiamat and she is not alone. She has a group of cronies with her. I can hear their voices now but I know not what they are saying. I must creep even closer before I can make out their whispered words. Luckily, they still cannot see me. The overpopulation of trees has become my friend and shelter.
“Mistress,” I can hear a black dragon with a scar over his right eye say. “What are we going to do with all of these?” It is now that I realize he is holding an armful of eggs. As I gaze even closer still, I can see that they are no ordinary eggs. The wretched, vile creature is holding Ryoutori eggs and from the looks of it, he is not doing so gently. Upon further inspection, I see that two others hold them, as well, and another three hold an armful of what I can not yet make out. “I have told you a million times, you bumbling fool! Need I tell you again and again until you get it through your thick skull?! And be careful with those! If you kill them, we will not be able to use them!” Tiamat shouts.
“But your Highness,” a dark green dragon moans. “This one will not stop crying!” It is at this moment that he steps into a sliver of light and I can finally make out what he has been lugging about like cargo. It is a frail human infant. Tiamat begins yelling again. “Of course it is going to cry, you ignorant swine! If you take the bratty thing from its mother, it is bound to complain! Just shut up! We will be there before you know it and when we do, we can begin our plan. It was difficult stealing all these sniveling, little monsters from their inept parents but soon, our hard work will pay off.”
“Umm. Excuse me, Queen Tiamat?” a blue dragon asks, looking quite frightened. “I hate to bother you with this question again but I am not clear on the details. What did you say these babies are for?” Tiamat growls in anger. “Fine! If you ridiculously bothersome idiots will not leave me be, I will tell you…AGAIN! We are going to raise these spoiled heathens as though they were our own and train them to fight the ‘good’ fight. It will take a significant amount of time but once they are old enough to trick and take down those goodie-goodies and their king, Bahamut, it will all be worth it. And the best part of it all is that dim-witted Bahamut is none the wiser! We can carry out our plan and strike before he can even blink!” She cackles manically, scaring her cronies even further.
I shake my head sadly at the fate of these poor children. I want to rush in right now and rescue them but even with my power, I know that I will be outnumbered. And if I die, who will save them? No, there is nothing I can do at the current moment but I shall save these infants, both Ryoutori and human alike, if it is the last thing I do. I jump up into the air and out of the forest, careful not to alert Tiamat and her gang of my presence, and fly away to tell the others of this devious plot. We will wait and gather our numbers as it appears as though we have some time. If Tiamat wishes for her scheme to work, she will not harm the babies. Yes, we shall wait and strike when she is most vulnerable. And when we do, she will be sorry she ever crossed the path of the great Bahamut.
