Name: Alerea
Age: 18
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Craft: Apprentice Seacrafter
Rank: Candidate
Physical Description: The first thing people notice about Alerea is her height, or lack there of. Standing barely above 5'0", she is a small thing and (trust me) she hates this. The next thing people tend to notice is a significant lack of womanly curves. She has tiny hips, practically no bosom or cleavage to speak of, and harbors a figure similar to a prepubescent boy. If one may think her weak, they are wrong. Sure, she isn't quite as strong as some due to her petite figure but she does keep herself in shape and wiry muscles are found in her arms. She does and can pack a punch (albeit a small one).

Thankfully, what she lacks on curves or figure, she makes up with a fairly attractive face. She may not be sultry or coy or beautiful, but cute is a good way to describe her. Her hair is straight and fine, naturally dishwater blond though it has lightened significantly due to time spent in the sun and desert of Igen. She tends to keep it clipped back off her neck or tied back in some fashion, anything to not have to think about it. She does harbor a light farmers tan, though it pales during the winter seasons and come the following spring, she often burns some as consequence.

Her eyes are a bright green, nothing fancy or out of the ordinary really, and can either sparkle with great good-humor or smolder with irritation. They are perhaps her prettiest feature, but Alerea doesn't much pay attention to such things.

Personality: Alerea by nature is good-humored with a bright personality and sharp mind. She can have a temper when push comes to shove, and her tongue can cut when she wishes but for the most part, the girl prefers not to waste her breath. A bit of an independent thinker, her turns at Igen haven't broken her strong spirit. . . While many Candidates swiftly find a place amongst one of the gangs, Alerea refuses to give in. She finds the entire gang system ridiculous and chooses not to align herself to any faction.

Because of this, she hasn't gained many friends, but her independence allows for her to take whatever abuse or neglect she might find. She doesn't give a damn what others think or feel.

Hard-working, she pulls her weight during chores and makes sure that others see such a thing. Whether or not she Impresses, she is too stubborn to leave Igen until she's ousted out by age and is too stubborn to allow her views to sway. Such stubborn pride can get her in trouble, especially when she feels she needs to voice her opinions on factions to faction members them self but she is who she is.

She refuses to change just because her views aren't the norm and keep her outcast. She can have a temper and will hold a grudge against any who wrongs her or those she does come to care about or call friend. Honestly though, it's a shame she doesn't find herself a faction. . .

She is loyal to the very few whom DO associate with her and is still loyal to Igen Weyr (even if their politics cause her to frown or roll her eyes). She's a good individual, whom loves to laugh and bring some brightness to those around her. No, she's not soft and certainly isn't a pushover, but it seems many within Igen are full of scowls, frowns or so proud and harsh they seem to have lost any semblance of personality. Undeterred by such surroundings, Alerea does her best to flourish even if she's nothing more than Shunned.
History: Alerea was brought up in a small fishing hold near the coast. Her family wasn't particularly wealthy, with her mother serving as a kitchen worker and her father and eldest brother going out every morning to fish with others of the Hold. Life along the coast wasn't particularly eventful for the girl; she made friends and was expected to either be married off early or assist in bringing prosperity to the small hold and its people.

Alerea was raised with a strong work ethic, as dawdling or idling ones days away was frowned upon. Though the small fishing hold was conservative and old-fashioned, she never lacked support or encouragement from her family.

She grew in to a bright young woman and, while a bit too independent to easily be married off, decided to pursue the sea and fish craft. She dreamed of being sent off to Tillek Hold to study at the main hall, but it was decided by her family with the local journeyman that she might better learn the basics of fishing and sailing at her home hold. They would teach her all she knew and, if she proved diligent in her studies and knowledge of the sea, might then be recommended to finish her apprenticeship at Tillek.

At her 17th turn, Alerea finally was given recommendation by those that taught her to be accepted over at the Seacraft Hall. She could finish her apprenticeship there and possibly walk-the-tables in the next couple turns. Unfortunately, fate had something else in mind.

A queen egg rested on the sands and Alerea was surprisingly found on Search by the local watch-dragon. The girl was told she might stand a chance and was encouraged to go. She could always return home if things didn't work out. Unsuspecting of Igen Weyr's attitude, she was brought in to the desert Weyr and was completely blindsided by what she found.

Oh, certainly she was honored to be one of the few Holdbred found 'worthy' to be placed before a queen egg. . . but . . . never would she have expected to find such strict and extremely conservative ideals. Living so close to Istan territory, she had witnessed women on fighting dragons and heard about them. So to be placed in a Weyr where you either Impressed bronze or gold or were forced to run in some faction. . . well. . . . she didn't take kindly to such a practice.

An independent thinker, despite the trouble it caused, Alerea just couldn't find herself drawn in to running with any factions presented. She prefers to be her own person, even if means making few friends and more enemies than she's ever been accustomed to. She finds the women who believe themselves 'deserving' or 'worthy' of Impressing a queen and only a queen laughable. . . . Oh, certainly the idea is pleasant enough, but it is a dragon's choice and not something anyone can judge or predetermine. Furthermore, the fact that women are treated like second-class to the 'men' of the Weyr is a strange reminder to home. Many women were hoped to be married off, and while she had heard Weyrs tended to be much more accepting and open-minded, it discourages her on occasion that she was sent to one of the most strict Weyrs on Pern!

Though she refuses to join any faction and has yet to be persuaded despite her few months at Igen, she is content to bide her time. She still has a few more Hatchings and turns left before she is dubbed too old to stand, and though her Holdbred nature are used against her, as well as refusing to choose a faction, the girl does her best to shrug off any abuse found her way.

She doesn't need some bandanna or title to keep her happy and tries her best to ignore the politics and bronze-family names surrounding her. The girl does mildly approve of the Flying Wherries (why not root for the under dogs?) and is glad that Iathe seems to be made of more open-mindedness than some of the gold riders and candidates running around Igen's desert. . .

But she has yet to pick a side or join. Yes, it gets lonely having no others allowed to speak to her. . . But she has taken it upon herself to be as friendly and amicable to those that 'ignore her' as possible. Kill them with kindness, so the saying goes. There are far too many bitter faces or tough-love attitudes . . . Igen Weyr can still be powerful without all the politics, without all the scheming, and a little kindness most certainly doesn't make one weak.

Pets: N/A
Other/Talents: She's a good swimmer and pretty quick on her feet. Being so small, she can fit through tight places. Living in a small sea-hold, she knows much about the ocean, various fish and aquatic life, as well as some basic knowledge about ships, sailing and fishing.
