There was no denying it. Mal was tired. Steken had been a giant blue ball of energy all morning she she was more the ready for a nap. She just had to find someplace where her brother wouldn't find her. No doubt, if he did he'd want another round of games.
Just a quick nap under some shady tree somewhere and she'd be fine. That wasn't too much to ask, was it?

A'kigeni was on the move. It was time for his latest experiment! This time involving some very strange fungus he had found... he wanted to know what he could do with it. Could creatures eat it? Was it useful for trees? Did it just thrive on it's own? He had to know!
Fungus, after all, was way more interesting than most people he knew. Well, maybe not his family... but they could be so awkward and confusing. This was way easier to take care of! Plants that could be used to further SCIENCE!

If Mal had any idea what was coming she might have been slightly more interested in the day. For now though she needed to make sure this tree was predator free before relaxing in it's shade.
Sure she was one of the toughest predators on the savannah but nearly anything could take advantage of the opportunity while you were asleep, they'd be fools not to. Besides, one lioness sleeping all by herself? Not exactly threatening.
Over yonder she spotted a tree it looked nice. Plenty of shade. She headed over.

A'k was a little surprised when he heard someone else coming his way. What was it... a... lioness? Oh crap. Oh crap. His parents had always warned him about lions. They were violent and dangerous... and what if she ate his fungus? What would he do then?
...What did he do if she ate him? Oh dear, this was quite a conundrum. Maybe he could throw a spider at her? So many creatures had trouble dealing with spiders... but what was one such as him to do? He couldn't fight back... perhaps the power of scientific observation would save his life!

She glanced around as she approached the tree, only giving the surrounding area a cursory glance. In a moment of unfortunate timing she paused in view of A'kigeni. Her eyes closed and her mouth opened in what appeared to be a snarl showing off her sharp canines, but was in fact an involuntary yawn. A stretch followed in which her claws were showcased. She was as harmless as powder puff but right at that moment it wasn't showing.

A'k let out a small "eep" of fear and darted around behind the tree, poking his head out at her. He didn't want to fight or die... and if he needed to run, then he knew he would be able to do so, and fast, if he had no choice. She could be just as evil as his father said they were... and then he was doomed. He had only ever eaten dead lions before. He didn't know what to do.
"Who... who are you? What do you want?" He asked, shaking and backing away as quickly as he could.

Her ears perked at the 'eep' and the she slowly paced around the tree after the sound of shuffling feet.
The questions made her pause. What kind of beast wanting to stay hidden would announce it's presence in such an obvious manner?
"My name is Mal and I want a nap," she frowned.

A'k raised his ears, not really trusting her one bit, despite the fact that she hadn't seemed agressive just yet, "How do I know you're not going to eat me?"
It sounded riddiculous, to any normal creature, but A'k couldn't help himself. He came from a weird family with a lot of strange customs... and as far as he was concerned, either she was going to eat him, or he was going to eat her.

"How do I know you're not going to eat me if I lay down to sleep?" she frowned. What was wrong with this creature?
"Never mind," a sigh escaped her lips. "I'll find somewhere else to sleep. You don't need to say anything else to convince me."
She circled around the tree a bit further. If curiosity killed the cat she'd be shortly doomed.

"Me eat you?" A'k said, sounding a little confused, "But you're the one who'll eat me. I won't eat you. That makes no sense." He insisted, fairly certain that was the way things worked.
Hadn't his father always warned him about this kind of thing? That they'd try to get close to you and then eat you when you were least expecting it? Yeah, he was pretty sure that was right.

"Well I'm not hungry!" she shook her head. "Why would I eat something when I'm not hungry? I just want a nap."
To be fair though this creature had perked her interest. Why would it be so loud if it wanted to avoid detection? She hadn't even realized it was there until it had opened it's yap to warn her off.
Then again though it would probably be safe enough to nap here. Whatever it was it didn't seem to bright. It was probably harmless.

A'k stared a moment, tilting his head, "Well, you see I... I've been told that if I'm not careful... lions will eat me all up." He mentioned, speaking of the many tales his father had told him over the years.
Either you ate them, or they ate you. That kind of thing. He really wasn't used to sitting down and actually speaking with one, that was for sure. But if she didn't want to eat him then...
"So... you really do actually want to sleep?" He asked, not really connecting two and two here. He wasn't used to this kind of thing. Usually he observed things. Bugs and spiders and fungus didn't have the habit of talking back, generally speaking.
