“Joshua, do be careful,” Xiu said worriedly as he tried to keep up with the young boy. “The road’s slippery and…you aren’t very good with those roller blades just yet,”
“Come on, Xiu! Where’s you sense of fun?” yelled back Joshua narrowly missing a lamppost and barely avoiding a mailbox in his youthful recklessness. “This is fun!”
“No, it isn’t.” muttered the white frei as he watched the young boy skid past a terrified old lady. “ Hazeline told me to keep an eye on you an-,”
“-And you are doing it perfectly!” shouted back Joshua with a careless wave of his hand.
“Regardless, you shoul- Joshua! Watch out!” yelled Xiu as the young boy rounded a sharp corner; laughing as he did so and Xiu, with a long suffering expression, was just about to follow suit when a sudden and dreadful screeching of tires were heard followed by the sound of something or someone crashing. Xiu’s heart went cold but before the frei even had time to react, a shocking wave of pain exploded in Xiu’s right arm causing the frei to gasp. It felt as though…something large and solid had slammed itself against the frei. Disorientated, the frei tried to find the source of the impact when the sound of Joshua’s crying snapped Xiu’s mind to the more impartant issue at hand. An accident had occurred and Joshua was hurt. Flaring his wings, Xiu hastily made for the sound of Joshua’s cry and found the young boy sitting on the curb with a bleeding arm.
“Joshua…,” said Xiu as he approached the young boy, concern clearly written across the frei’s face. “Come, let me see that wound…,”
“I-It hurts,” whimpered Joshua holding our his right arm for Xiu to inspect. The sight of Joshua’s blood made something within Xiu churn but the frei shook that feeling aside. No, he was not going to be tempted by Joshua’s blood. Steeling himself, Xiu peered at the wound. It was bad. The boy’s arm was cut very deeply and ….Xiu feared that…that whitish part might actually be…the bone. Taking a deep breath to calm himself, Xiu scanned the area for potential aid. There! A clinic!
“Hey, Joshua.” asked Xiu gently as he placed his arm around the whimpering boy. The pain in his right arm threatened to return but the frei ignored it. “There’s a clinic over there and…we’ll get you treated alright?”
“O-Okay…,” replied Joshua between sobs. “Xiu, my arm…is it broken?”
“No, I…don’t think so,” said Xiu quietly as he lifted the young boy and made his way towards the clinic. “But it is best that we get that nasty wound cleaned up at the very least… ”
Joshua nodded and fell silent; his body giving in to the occasional shudder as Xiu floated as quickly as he could for the clinic feeling worried. He had heard of humans entering into a state of shock and…No, this was not the time to be thinking such negative thoughts.
Pushing the door of the clinic open with his shoulders, Xiu hoped that there weren’t many patients in there and if there were patients, the patients would be kind enough yo allow Joshua to be treated first.

Another free day.
Kenth sat in front of his small desk as usual, facing his laptop and typing lightly on the keyboard. Everything the doctor did was according to schedule, be it research period or patient appointments. After the mysterious soul bottle had caught a soul, however, Kenth found himself getting more distracted by the strange object. Eventually it became necessary for him to put a specific time period in his schedule just dedicated to the bottle, so he could focus on something else during other times.
At the moment, the doctor's fingers where flying on the keyboard, trying to finish a recent paper review. Even though Kenth had quit being a researcher and a leader in the field several years ago, requests for reviews still flooded his mailbox. Quitting was a valid excuse for him to not look at any of them, although it also became a convenient advantage for him to read whichever one he was interested in, and write up a short review, labeled "from anonymous", and secretly send it back to whoever sent the request. Most of his reviews were highly technical and avoided general expectations from the society. He was, after all, not a part of the major field anymore.
Kenth's thoughts were interrupted by a crisp "ding!" from outside. He knew the sound, it was a signal that someone had came into the office. It did sound cheesy, but for Kenth, it was necessary as he almost never show up in the lobby unless someone was there. Nevertheless, Kenth frowned upon hearing the noise. There was no appointment scheduled today, or was he mistaken? The doctor lost a chunk of his confidence after the soul capture accident, so he took the time to pull up his schedule again to double check. He was right, there was nothing planned today, at least, not patient wise. The doctor sighed, stayed quiet for a while, and listened to the intruders outside. The noise made by the intruders were quite obvious and less intentional, so Kenth could conclude that they were not robbers or anything of that sort. Grumbling, the doctor finally got up from the chair and opened the door to reveal himself. Perhaps it was a forgetful patient who had mistook the date of his appointment?
"I'm sorry, but your appointment is not today." Without even looking up to see who it was Kenth spoke, his hand carrying the schedule with him as a proof.

The clinic was empty. That was good. But there was no sign of a doctor or any other staff for that matter. That was bad. After a brief period of silence, Xiu flared his wings with impatience and was about to leave when a door leading to one of the closed rooms opened to reveal the doctor (at least, Xiu hoped it was the doctor). Feeling relieved, Xiu quickly made his way over to said person when the person spoke; telling the frei that he had not made an appointment with the doctor today. The manner in which the human had spoken was both amusing and distressing to the frei. Xiu was amused that said person had not even bothered to look up from his apparent work but distressed because it meant that self same person might not be willing to offer the help that was required.
“Please, sir,” said Xiu quietly but urgently; afraid that the human might decide to just shut the door then and there. “This child, he needs help,”

Kenth finally looked up after hearing a voice in which he didn't recognize. There, he saw two strangers, a boy with a bad wound on his arm, and a while haired man---wait, not exactly a man, for the creature only had a torso. The doctor immediately recognized that the one who spoke was this creature, and that this creature was not all that unfamiliar to him. He'd seen two raevans before, and Kenth assumed that this one, too, was one of those mysterious creatures. He raised an eyebrow at Xiu's demeanor, this one seemed a lot more human than the previous two he had encountered. Kenth laid only a brief glance on the boy (and his bleeding arm) before turning his attention back to the raevan.
"This is a private clinic." The doctor said, quite straightforward, "not an emergency room. If the child needs treatment, he should go to a hospital." A rather cold statement for a doctor, he knew, but Kenth was not an angel. At the same time, he was a doctor, and knew his duty, although he was not about to simply let things slide without some complaints. The apparently mean and heartless doctor then turned and laid his schedule on the front desk, and opened the drawer underneath it to pull out a registration sheet. He then looked up at the two, eyes switching back and forth between the boy and the raevan.
"I will only treat my patients. He will need to fill out this form to get registered." Eventually Kenth decided to ask the more mature looking Xiu, despite the fact that he was not a human being. "Is he your guardian?"

Now that he had the other’s attention, Xiu nodded and swallowed. The human had a point. Being a private clinic, the white haired man was under no obligation to treat the injured child but… the nearest hospital was practically on the other side of the town and…the wound had bits of dirt and sand stuck to it. That was bad; f Xiu remembered correctly. Infection might set in.
If only the doctor would at least clean it…
Blue eyes both pleading and watchful at the same time trailed the human as he made his way to the front desk. There was a slight rustling of paper and the doctor held out a registration form of sorts.
“Joshua is…my guardian’s younger brother,” explained Xiu; not realizing that such a question meant that the doctor had probably met other raevans as well. Not that that mattered at the moment. “And I handle the forms, if I may,” said Xiu reaching out to take the offered paper. In his haste (lest the doctor changed his mind), Xu reached out with his right hand and just as his fingers managed to grasp the documents, a sudden sharp pain made Xiu gave a small cry; both in surprise and pain. Unknown to the raevan a small patch of blood had seeped through the raevan’s clothing but because Xiu had a rather interesting blood colouration, the wet blotch indicated nothing of the wound beneath. The papers fluttered noisily to the ground. “I-I’m sorry…my hand…it must have slipped,” mumbled Xiu colouring slightly as he bent down to retrieve the papers.

"Hm?" The doctor looked at the Raevan with an amazed expression. He always thought the creatures would always be around his guardian, but apparently this one was independent enough to be with someone else. In fact, the Raevan seems to be capable of taking care of other humans, which made Xiu all the more like a human himself. Amazement aside, however, Kenth was not about to let a non-human sign any of the papers. It's not because he thought lowly of Xiu, but it would simply be troublesome if something does go wrong and he'd have to report things to the general authority, who probably wouldn't believe in the existence of raevans and wouldn't accept Xiu as a legal guardian for the boy.
Kenth's hand retreated a little when the raevan attempted to reach out for the registration sheet. He didn't want Xiu to handle it, and it didn't look like he had to worry about it at the moment. Seeing the raevan suddenly dropping the paper made Kenth frown. Even though Xiu was not human, Kenth still had enough experience to tell the way his arm twitched was not normal, and the sound he made...
"I'm afraid you can't sign the paper." Kenth added, seeing the raevan reaching down to retrieve the sheet. "For legal purposes. Is your guardian nearby?" Kenth's eyes were solely focused on Xiu now, as if the boy didn't exist. Was the Raevan hurt also? Kenth can't imagine what kind of situation would Xiu put himself in to receive wounds, and it didn't look like there were anything visible. But he was human, and felt he shouldn't judge a raevan's well-being according to human standards. After speaking the doctor bent down also and grabbed the paper from Xiu's hand, then put it back on the front desk.
"I will see his wound, but I don't have the sufficient equipment here to treat him completely." Kenth sighed after a brief period of silence. He did not want to bother with the boy's arm, but it was a way to keep the target of interest here. He hoped, by observing Xiu's behaviors, to gain experience on how his own raevan will act when it takes physical form. "But he cannot leave until the paperwork is finished, signed by someone who's legally responsible."

Xiu stared in confusion as he had the papers wrenched from him. For ‘legal purposes’ the human had said. The frei’s heart sank a little. Was it because…he wasn’t human? A soft growl and an unexplainable urge to bare his fangs at this …human came over the frei but Xiu quickly suppressed it. No, he was not in any position to do that. He needed to have Joshua treated. That was the priority. That was what mattered.
If Xiu had initially thought that the man before him was cold hearted, the doctor’s next statement only served to confirm it. Flaring his wings a little, Xiu stared indignantly at the doctor. “But that’s…I mean; you are going to keep the child here if… . No, no!” said Xiu shaking his head. “I can’t possibly-,”
A soft groan from Joshua stilled the Frei’s outrage. Stomping down his pride, Xiu took a deep breath. “I-If there is a phone I could use... I’ll get Hazeline over; with the required documents as well as…money for the fees,” said Xiu quietly. Being a private clinic, it would probably be expensive. Coming from the person before him, it would probably cost an arm or a leg. Xiu guessed that he had better prepare Hazeline for it.

"Wounds like that won't kill him, especially after the area is disinfected." Seeing the raevan getting frustrated, Kenth added with a stone face. It was obvious that the raevan was extremely concerned about the boy's wounds, but he was still..not a human, and certainly not a doctor. If anything, Kenth felt Xiu should be more concerned about himself, because the boy was going to receive the treatment, but he, who by now Kenth was certain something was wrong with the raevan's arm, was not. The doctor turned and stepped away from the two and pointed to the back of the front desk. "There's a phone over there for you to use." If xiu could call his guardian over, Kenth was more than interested to talk to him, or her.
Seeing as he had no more business with the raevan at the moment, Kenth finally turned his attention to the boy. The doctor walked over and bent down to inspect Joshua's arm. Part of the flesh was shaved off, exposing the bone underneath. The fortunate thing was that the cut was small, so it'd heal fast with the boy's metabolism. For now though, all he needed to do was to clean the wound, and not worrying about the rest.
"Can you walk?" Kenth asked Joshua with a softer, but nonetheless formal tone. "We'll go to the back and get your wound cleaned."

“Y-Yeah…the car hit my arm so my legs are good,” stammered Joshua when the doctor finally directed his attention to him. The boy was intimidated by the doctor’s formality. He wasn’t like the jolly old family doctor who was always cheerful and talkative; every ready to give someone that friendly pat on the back. Joshua doubted that this doctor would have a box of chocolate milk for him after the treatment. Green eyes stared nervously from the doctor to Xiu who gave a slight nod of his head, encouraging the young child to follow the human. The similarity between the both of them was…a little disconcerting to say the least. Joshua felt that he was seeing too many white beings in the same room. But the thought that took priority in the child’s mind was… “I don’t wanna injection,” said Joshua with child-like stubbornness. Small lips pouted in preparation to throw a tantrum should the mention of a needle ever surfaced.
Xiu’s eyes briefly shifted from the doctor to the phone on the desk before turning towards Joshua. Deep cut aside, the young boy did not seem any worse for wear. Which was good. Odd though since one would expect a kid who’d just been knocked from the road and onto the curb by a moving car to be a little less perky. Perhaps Joshua was more resilient than he looked.
“Do you think I’d get a scar?” Joshua then asked hopefully. “It’d be like cool!”
“You’d get a scab,” said Xiu smiling a little. “And it’ll get all hard and itchy later,”
“Wet blanket!” called back Joshua as he blew a raspberry at the raevan while being led away to back to be treated.
“Well, someone’s got to be one to dampen that hot head of yours,” replied Xiu with a small laugh as he waved the boy away. Now that he was alone, the dull throbbing pain in his arm began bothering him again. Wincing, the frei then floated towards the phone and dialed his guardian’s number. The phone was immediately answered and after a brief talk with his guardian who said she’d come right away, Xiu closed the phone and turned towards the door leading to the back room. Joshua had not emerged yet and with no one to talk with and nothing to do, Xiu floated over to the charts that were plastered in the office. Busying himself with reading the information that was written on the charts. Xiu absently folded his arms only to draw them back with a surprise moments later. His right sleeve was wet and there was pain where his arm was touched. Curious, Xiu rolled back the outer white sleeve of his clothes to reveal the more fitting grey one beneath. It was wet as well. Perplexed, Xiu flared his wings. What was this?

Kenth nodded, but said nothing else as he led the boy to the room where he usually worked with other patients. He told Joshua to "sit" on the examination chair, and closed the door behind him, peering once more at Xiu before the door was completely shut. Kenth made no comment to the conversation between the boy and the reavan earlier, although he did have the urge to tell the boy that the pain from the antiseptic would be much greater than that of an injection. Although, Kenth felt it was unnecessary, because Joshua would soon realize it himself.
Approaching his patient, Kenth pulled the boy's wounded arm close to him. There were small things that needed to be taken out first, a few shattered rocks were embedded in his flesh. He grabbed a small pair of forceps, which was originally immersed in alcohol, wiped it dry, and started taking the rocks out. Kenth gave Joshua no warnings, but his hands were quick and precise, and the few pieces were taken out before pain would settle in on the boy. He then led Joshua to the sink, and washed the wound with water, getting rid of any residue contaminated blood. While the boy was returning to his seat Kenth took the time and located a bottle of antiseptic---the most effective one he had, and sat down beside Joshua. This time, he finally spoke with a warning.
"This is going to hurt."
This would teach the boy not to get into an accident and cut himself again.

Once in the office, Joshua did as the doctor ordered. Scooting himself onto the examination chair Joshua watched as the doctor took a pair of forceps and began pulling out bits of rock and grit from the wound and before the pain had time to register within the boy’s mind, Joshua’s arm was being immersed under running water. The cold water stung but after a while numbed the raw flesh. Joshua gulped. It was more painful than he’d thought and the boy was tempted to cry. One look at the doctor however and Joshua thought otherwise. This doctor did not look like the kind who’d take kindly to childish whimperings.
The boy was then led to his seat once again and this time, the doctor had taken the liberty of warning the young boy of his immanent pain. Joshua gulped but allowed the doctor to apply the horrid looking antiseptic onto his arm.
Pain unlike anything he’d ever felt before seared across the wound. This time, fierce of not, the doctor could be damned. Joshua took a deep breath and let the strength of his lungs and vocal chords do the rest.
Xiu now suspected that he was…in one way or another hurt. There was a patch of warm fluid spreading beneath his clothes and his arm was hurting. Xiu was tempted to see just how bad this mysterious wound was but…it would mean that he’d either have to roll his sleeves up or…take his clothes off. The latter did not appeal to the frei at all while the former…would hurt a lot. It was easy to push up his white outer clothing but the inner grey one was a different matter…
A sudden scream from the doctor’s office made Xiu’s blood turn cold. It was Joshua! And he was in pain! Forgetting that he had his sleeve rolled up, Xiu charged in the direction of the cry; banging the office door open in his haste.
“Joshua! What’s wrong?” demanded Xiu worried.

When Xiu stormed into the room Kenth was still clenching onto Joshua's arm, rubbing the extremely strong antiseptic onto the boy's arm as if he didn't hear anything. He warned the boy, which was a warning to himself about any reaction that the boy could have. Besides, if he stopped right now, the pain would subside before the work was done, and Kenth doubt Joshua would want to feel this kind of pain again when the rest of the wound needed to be disinfected. The scream did annoy the doctor to a great extent though, this was why he only treats older people! The louder the boy screamed, the harder his fingers clasped at Joshua's arm, to the point that one probably would expect the pain came from his grip instead of the antiseptic.
Nonetheless, Kenth continued, and soon the work was done, all the antiseptic was applied to the cut. The pain would stay for a while before it subsides, which would leave the boy numb of other feelings in the meantime. The doctor swiftly bandaged the boy's arm when Joshua was still worried about the pain to stop the bleeding. It was then that he looked up at Xiu, all flustered and worried.
"He's fine." Kenth said quietly (although he wasn't sure the exact volume of his voice, for his ear felt numb from the scream). "When your guardian arrives, he or she can take him to the hospital. I would recommend a vaccine for any viral infections, since the cut was quite deep."
The doctor paused, looking at the raevan's arm. The sleeves looked wet now, although the color looked nothing like blood.
"Let me see your arm too."

Lungs totally emptied of air, Joshua had now settled for soft whimperings as the doctor skillfully bandaged his arm. “Xiu, it’s pain,” whined the young child when he noticed that the raevan had entered the room. “Make it go away,”
“You know I can’t do that, Joshua,” said Xiu patiently and with some measure of relief. The boy was crying because of the treatment that the doctor was giving him. There was nothing to worry about after all.
At the doctor’s next request however, Xiu stiffened slightly. “Why?” asked Xiu clasping his right arm with his left hand, as though trying to hide the wet patch on his sleeve from the human. “I-It’s probably nothing,” said Xiu with a slight shake of his head. The frei was not at all keen on having the doctor examining him. “It probably isn’t...anything, doctor…,”
“Is Xiu bleeding?” asked Joshua curiously.
“ I might be…,” answered the raevan tentatively; not wanting to lie to the young child but not wanting to have any attention brought to the wound.
“But it’s not red!” exclaimed Joshua hopping off the chair. “Is it because you have white blood?”
“Joshua,” said Xiu exasperated. Sometimes, the young boy could be a troublesome little pain in the neck…

The doctor sighed, seeing Xiu withdraw and holding his arm in an attempt to hide it. He was not going to argue with the reavan, if Xiu thought he was okay himself, Kenth was not going to touch him. The doctor had full confidence in treating human beings, despite how annoying some patients may be, but was not confident in treating a non-human creature. Kenth said nothing further and shook his head, waiting as Joshua left his seat so the area could get cleaned up. The boy's comment dragged Kenth's attention back, however. Kenth's eyes immediately shifted back to Xiu, eying the sleeved arm that the reavan was trying to hide. His clothes were white, and if what the boy said was true, then any blood would be hard to discern. Kenth easily disregarded the fact that white blood was not an object that could possibly exist in this world, as he owned something similarly impossible. The doctor raised his head, more certain and more demanding this time, and repeated his request.
"Let me see your arm." Kenth said, looking at Joshua, "your sleeve is wet, and if what he said was true, then you could be bleeding."
And bleeding was definitely something.
