So as you all now, a LOT of issues are coming up.
And it's become like a chain reaction. We are semi-literate, but I'm afraid we're goign to have to become more literate for the sake of the roleplay not dying and being overwhelmed by stupidity.

So here is a list of things that need one. I will not assign them to one individual person, why? Because I will help whoever it is that I ask to work on it with me, and you can do the same. We all need to know what's going on, so we're all going to need to work on the changes.

NUMBER ONE: TECHNOLOGY

This has come up in the rp lately, and a few members have complained, and personally I'm getting a bit fed up with it. So we're going to have to define it very very well before I godmode will off everyone abusing it.

Nathien Bloodguard was a moderator for me before this rp was even thought up of. He's from the older guild rp. But he's volunteered to look up time periods and what was available weapon wise so we can decide what "time period" we're in and around what "country" since Japan came into the possession of gun powder much earlier than Europe
(I can't believe we're actually having to use that. Evangel was actually getting kinda mad because we didn't say if we were medival Europe or Japan!)

Anyways, We need to come up with some specific rules and guildlines about this.
Can we or can't we have guns?
Explosives?
Teleporter machines?
cannons?
the list goes on and on...

NUMBER TWO: Occupations

People keep adding to their profiles without updating their profiles. For example, I looked up Orin's. He's supposed to be a guide or something. That's his occupation. He knows summoning and fire magic. Not just fire because he's from fire or half dragon. But the dark fire circle thing on the ground that made the explosion? Come on! You're only like a guide someplace. You shouldn't know weird things out of nowhere!

We're going to have to give EACH profession a detailed description.
And it has to include the following:
-What makes this occupation good?
-What makes it bad?
-Physical Strength?
-Mental Strength?

NUMBER THREE: Down sizing the moderating task force

This is one that I feel will be inevitable. There's just not enough work to do. When I give out projects it only takes 1-2 people to do them, and half the time the people I give them to don't do them. I give out the projects for your benefits as moderators. If you're not an active mod, then why be a mod at all? i'm not saying it to be mean, it's more meant to be a fact.

The way I see it right now, there only needs to be four moderators, myself included. One for each element. Whether or not you're in that element I will have one of my remaining mods keep the peace and enforce the law. That doesn't mean you have to follow "water" people aren't the guild, you're not their babysitter. Just keep up with what's happening in your "country"

It's going to come down to who's the most active. And not just rp wise, but moderator wise. Who tries to help out the members the most? who answers questions and tries to calm fights? Who takes action?
If you get demoted, I'm sorry. I hope with all my heart that you chose to stay and rp, because I still think you're awesome. I just need to down size a bit.

NUMBER FOUR: updating the profile systems

A lot of the complaints have sprung up because people are just randomly adding to their profiles, as has already been pointed out. This is how we're going to make it stop. We're going to have to come up with a very detailed profile chart (okay, not too detailed) but detailed enough and enforced enough so that if we were to check someone's profile and they were transforming without their profile having any record of them being able to transform, that we could step in and say, "you can't do that, it's not on record so it's cheating."

This is what we have:
Quote:
Gaia name:
Name:
Age:
Sex:
Element:
Rank of importance:
Occupation:
Appearance (if description or picture):
Bio:
*crush:
*pet:
*weapons:

We'll probably have to add...
Powers:
Abilities:
Transformations if any:
Strengths:
Weaknesses: (and make this one mandatory...)
etc.

it is now open for discussion. If you wanna start working on one let me know. The ones I really REALLY want to get out of the way are the profile and occupational ones. However the technological ones are still very urgent aswell

Hmmmm... lets see
Maybe we should add race? (lol)
and whats the deal with the crush thing?
PostPosted: Mon Sep 14, 2009 8:55 pm

I believe every character on their profile should have a set of abilities their character is capable of, and to pull out random magic that takes care of any situation like some kind of godmod makes no sense. Characters need to have more limitations. Many many more limitations. I don't like guys with big dragons and impenetrable bodies shrugging off every bit of damage that comes their way. Call me biased against dragons, but people who control dragons seem to think they're invincible.

At least in the case of D&D and WoW, full fledged Dragons are stupidly powerful. You need a whole raid party and serious firepower to drop just one. Though the only spells to summon dragons in D&D are either high in cost, or exceedingly high in level requirement.

Some people already added races to their profiles, but mostly when it wasn't human.

Crush does seem rather frivolous, but it was an optional slot anyway. Everybody seems rather abrasive and aloof anyway.

Teleporter machines are pretty far into the future, I'd avoid those. Even modern science and technology says they're unlikely. Spells on the other hand are available though even in D&D there isn't a way to move hundreds of people at once. Teleport spells require the user to know where they're going though. They have to have been to that location frequently for best results.

Explosives have existed since the bronze age, though fire elementalists seem to be able to cause explosions without materials, so at least being able to get them if you aren't a fire elementalist would level the playing field. After all, dynamite (though also not invented yet) is pretty good for putting out fires.

I haven't seen any other engineers listed, and firearms that aren't an arquebus or smooth bore musket are unlikely.

The only thing to think about for time setting is, the dark ages slowed development down in Europe. Since we don't seem to be experiencing anything like that it's difficult to think of what things would be like. There isn't alot of temples, churches, powerful clergy, or enforced worshiping.

On technology as a whole, we also have to consider magitechnology, and the advancement of magic. Are magic and tech mutually exclusive? Is there some connection in some cases? and how far is magic in evolution?

The crush thing was optional. I got the idea from an rp I was in, but they had theirs because they used it to keep track of royalty and the cheating princes and princesses. I think that instead of Crush it should be changed to marital status, I still want to keep it.

Dragons are pretty durable...and I agree with Phae that it should take a lot of people to bring them down. They are bigger than buildings most of the time. However, I think we might even have to describe some of the races, give them weaknesses and strengths. For certain species we may even consider putting down how to kill them. Not just Dragons, but even sirens or banshees or things like that. Because it's kind of hard to kill a siren which can bewitch you, or a banshee which can break your ear drums

A set list of abilities is a good idea in my opinion. It would keep people from creating more every time they were in trouble.

I think we may have to more closely narrow what fire can do. You can't make an explosion out of nothing. Fire balls? That's a bit iffy. But I like to tihnk of Avatar (and I know it might be cheating). Look at the stuff they could and couldn't do. I don't recall fire being able to make explosions out of nothing

I've also thought about the whole temple thing...temples only work if we create dieties. THey don't have to be rp'd by us (like they were before, that just causes too many problems). We could make a chain of temples. But if we did that, I would suggest that we did like D&D and put a spot on their profile for their Diety.
The purpose of this would be that we could go on the mule and either reward or curse their characters based on their actions. Like...say we made a diety who was for love and birth, and they killed a pregnate woman (not likely I know) but they'd get cursed for it. It's just an idea, but it would help give a moral value system in a sense.

Personally, and I know if might just be me. But I think of science and technology like this. Back in some year, doesn't matter to me, but a long time ago. There was both science and magic. And people instead of trying to pursue the path of science, chose magic instead since it defies the laws of almost everything. It doesn't mean science doesn't exist, but it would mean that it is extremely not developed much at all. Why?
Well, if you think of it this way, why would they bother trying to figure out how to create light with light bulbs or anything if they could say a spell and create an orb of light that could have any intensity they wanted for any amount of time they wanted?
I don't know if they would have a connection sometimes as opposed to others, I'd need an example. As for how far it is in evolution, I'm not sure about that either

I typed this up as an idea that can be tweeked. I know that it's overly detailed and asks for a bunch of stuff that's irrelevant to the rp. But I'm trying to fill in all the holes. Plus, some of the stuff is for their own enjoyment. I don't like filling out profiles unless I get to put down all the irrelevant stuff too.
The extended Biography is so things won't happen out of nowhere. No more, "you're from where the heck? That's not in your bio!" or "You can turn into a what?! No, it's not there, you can't do it."

Well, the thing about science is it provides a deal more reliability. Arcanists can counter-spell one another on the fly. Magic storms and anti-magic fields can put a damper on spell casting. In WoW Gnomes chose both technology and magic. They seemed to excel at both though. It's more of a give and take measure, some intellectuals didn't do so well at magic but did better with engineering and vice versa. It's like Why do archery if you can just toss javelins with enough force and accuracy? Or why focus on using a sword if an axe is a much better chopping weapon?

Also I know I keep prodding you about this but occupation and character class are fundamentally different in most cases.

Wow, amazing what you miss in one night...

Hm, welll, as for Technology I think that
1) Get rid of the guns, or make people write an essay or give an example of how they want to use them, how they would work in a European medieval time and approve/disapprove then monitor them. though that would be bothersome.
2) Explosions are tough... on the one hand, they could be done easily with magic, but in another they are annoying and are slightly god-modish. It's hard to dodge an explosion.
3) Teleporters: I agree with Phaeton, they should only be used in magic like how he described.
4) Cannons, no. Who would want to drag one around anyways? Not to mention the ammo.
I'd help as much as I can with this subject, but I'm most definitely not that literate in gun/weapon lingo.

Occupations: I'd probably be better at helping with this than with tech. Now, I haven't played all those games like D&D and such, so it'd probably be researched and what I've read from books, but some occupations are commonsense and I would be willing to work on it. But just to be clear, do you still have to pick from the occupations we describe only?

Profiles: The new list that you posted is good. But how are we going to inact it? Are we going to make everyone in the guild fix their profiles and make them fill out the new outline? The only thing that'd i'd have to say about the new profile list is it looks... scary. It's big. Now, a person like me who sees something and goes "I dun wanna!" a lot, that would give me that reaction. Now, I would do it, and probably rather well, but i might dread it a little bit...
Out of all of the things I could help out with, this is probably the best. If there still needs anything to be done about it, I'd gladly do it.
Also, I update background info or how a character acts, like i just did recently for Aoide. It didn't change anything about the character or effect any other characters. I just use it so that when i think of something that would explain something that's happened before, like Aoide being gray, I put it in there and make it a permanent part of that character's history. That's legal, right? Just wondering ^^

And about the samples to get in, I've seen where you let a person because of a sample in and then they become idiots *cough* my brother *cough* i think a better solution and an easier one would be to continue to let all in and then if they act like idiots *cough* marcwebb and deathflame *cough* then just kick them out. plus the more we let in, the more famous we get and the higher we get and
Sorry about that, I seem to be coming down with something...

@Phae: I keep forgetting that...but which are we going to use and how??? I've never really seperated them that much, never had to. And I'm sure a lot of other people don't get the difference. So would what we have now as occupations classify as classes? Could they be changed into them?

@Sewn: I know the profile thing is daunting. But if you fill it out? It seriously isn't that bad. And a lot of it is just expanding on other things. Some of it (like the old one) will be optional, like the pets again.

Let me explain how some of it will work.

Elemental Abilties:
These are things anyone can do, but if its a bit more unusual to your element and you do them, they'd go here. For instance...Mine for Lus might include Controlling and Manipulating Strong Air currents in the atmosphere. Being able to catch what people say on the wind and carry it to my ear.

Occupational Abilities (might change into class abilities):
These are things that wouldn't neccesarily be in the job descriptions (that will be created) they'll be things that you specialize in, or they could be directly from the description. It's to keep track of bizzare happenings. An example for me would be my replicas. Illusion is very good at replicating, whereas for FPS he might put down for Mor that he's god at creating nightmares.

Equipment/Garbs:
Even if you have a picture, I'd still like this filled out. Because it helps lessen confussion when your character all of a sudden has armor when in your pic or description she's/he's hardly wearing anything at all.

Weapons: Some people have multiple, even if they're not their main ones. And if they only have one? They only need one "-"

Talents:
such as being able to talk into someone's mind. Seeing in the dark. Transforming into a frickin dragon.

Biography:
Doesn't have to be as detailed as it is here, but it's not like it has to be a three paragraph story. I want to know where they're from, and why there's wherever they are. Unlike Orin and his whole "I'm a traveling person who just happens to be insane and can kill you I think"

Having a lot of members is a good thing, but it's not worth it if it brings our standards down. I'm making a poll, based on that it will or won't be changed.

Okay, so I'm going to do my best to figure out whats going on
and give my opinions on the situations listed above
sorry if I mis-read anything >.<;;
Technology:
As far as the technology goes, I think Teleporters are way to far into
the future to be used in this roleplay, plus I would think they would
feel a bit out of place just because people are living in like castles and stuff
and suddenly, "lets go hop in my teleporter in the kitchen."
really? now on the other hand the teleportaion magic sounds a lot more
reasonable considering that everyone pretty much has some form of magic
that they are currently wielding and such.
the issue with guns and cannons, I'm not really sure I have an opinion,
on one hand I can see using them, but on the other I feel it would be way to easy to god-mode with a gun.
I dunno I'll have to think on that one.
Explosions with fire elementalists I do think need to be restricted, because fire naturally doesn't explode, if it did, I think we would
all be afraid to light one. Fire needs gas or any other highly explosive substance added to it before it becomes
a deadly weapon.
Occupations:
probably do need a more detailed description such as the things
that you listed above,
it will probably cause less confusion as to what each does more specifically,
and prevent some people from making stuff up out of thin air cause they feel like it.
New Profile Thing:
I really like the new list, more descriptions make things easier to deceiver which can help in the long run. So I say we should go with the new list :]
