Passing into the river territory the wolf flattened her ears back against her head, lips twitching warily as she slipped through the brush. Just being here was wrong, every fiber in her body knew it but her damnable curiosity drew her closer, every deft turn of the wind brought her muzzle a tad higher to sniff the air for a familiar scent. She wanted, no, needed to see those pups. Though pups they'd no longer be, would they. No, she supposed not.

It had been quite a time since she'd left the meadow near the pack's territory and fled into the hills. Quite a time since she'd had to put up with that, that wolf. If he could even be counted as the same species as she. But if she had been safe, and alone, and surviving, why was she back? Why cheat luck by coming back here, opening herself up for attack.

Sickly fur shifted and caught momentarily in a thick set of brambles, but Necrala pulled herself past without a second thought. Something nagged her. She had been here before. But she didn't know when or why. She had never set foot in these lands, despised the pack and all within it, why would she have been here? She couldn't accept it.

Millanna had been playing hide and seek with her cousin Veero, both had become close thanks to the common trait they shared. Veero had no father, and she had no mother. Yet they were deeply loved and loved in return their family, their pack. No pups could have been better loved, better cared for then those of the Akiiki Chibale. It was as if they were all brothers and sisters, many mothers and fathers and a gaggle of cousins to romp and grow with. She was probably getting a little too old for hide and seek but the teens were often indulged and the alphas believed that often playing was just as important to develop certain skills as the most rigorous training.

She was quiet pressed down behind a bush her scent blowing downwind. She worked hard to keep her tail still but she was so very excited. The soft padding of steps was closer now...closer...she grinned and leapt out before the wolf.

"Gotcha!" She yelled happily before stepping back shocked and blinking. "Oh...I...I'm sorry I thought you were...someone else." Her eyes were wide now as she looked at the stranger, those colors...she stood there frozen.

Her first response was to attack whatever had (though she wouldn't admit it)surprised her, but sensibility kept her at bay. These were not her lands, and mauling a pack member would have Musketeer and god knows what else harassing her till she dropped dead. Which at the moment she figured was a pretty reasonable request.

So, tensing up the femme flashed her fangs warningly at the offender, who she noticed, was not much smaller than her. Necrala stepped backwards, raising her head and neck into a dominant position while staring in disdain at the teen. Was it mentally handicapped? Staring like that, rushing about without looking. Whatever she intended to catch, it wasn't her.

Obviously she was in horror of the wolf before her, eyes stony and pelt ragged and disgusting, coat of something long dead. "Did no one inform you staring was rude?" She growled, teeth clicking together for emphasis. This pup was hindering her from her mission with her foolish gaze. Did she not realize she had a place to be?

Millanna sat back and stared a moment longer before the females words made her blush and look away. "I'm sorry...I didn't mean to be rude, you just startled me. In thought you were my cousin-we were playing...and..." She stopped and glanced over her shoulder at the sound of a familiar call.

"Millanna!" Musketeers voice was laced with concern as he sought his youngest daughter. Since Moranna's disappearance he had become even more overprotective of his children and especially his youngest who had boundless energy. He leapt with grace despite the years moving to catch him and relaxed when he spotted his daughter in the distance. His hackled raised at the sight of another though until his eyes focused and he slowed his walk.

It couldn't be...impossible...he moved until he was shoulder to shoulder with his daughter facing the all too familiar female before him. "Millanna go back to the den, veero is there..."

"but Papa I'm not off the territory and I was ju-" She flintched and turned to race back towards the den at her fathers harsh words.

"Now!" Musketeer had snapped before watching his daughter go and turning back to the female.

He lowered his head slightly confusion crossing his features, as well as pain. He remembered the fruitless search for her once the pups had aged, and then the dark night that he had believed she had returned to him. The bitter night she delivered three wriggling cold pups, two dead...only Millanna had survived that night, and that same painful night his Moranna had vanished. The endless searching for her had torn his heart with the memory of searching in the same fashion for Necrala.

He finally lifted his head his eyes dark with concern. "You're back?"

Gazing down angrily at the femme, Necrala noticed something unsettling about the color of her fur, the familiar quality to her eyes and sickly colored mask about her eyes. Enough to be coincidence any other place, but not here. Scrutinizingly she narrowed her eyes, red nose twitching as she took in the pup's scent. There was something impossible about this child, something she couldn't accept, or her mind wouldn't allow her to. She reeked of that other wolf and raising her lip she wouldn't have to begin to imagine why.

Her gaze broke when she heard the call of another, and a growl rumbled low in her throat. Damn! She knew it had been a risky thing to try, and this was exactly what she didn't want. But she couldn't back down, couldn't run now. He had seen her and soon was staring her straight in the face with those pitiful confused eyes of his.

'Papa'? The wolf had called him, before rushing off at his order. Had he more pups? Somehow she wasn't surprised, as she should have been, and it nagged her something horrible.

Necrala raised her head even more so, struggling to keep her composure in the situation. Despite her steely face her tail flickered uncertainly at his proximity to her. His silver coat, strange markings, the way he moved, all too familiar to her. His words brought her out of her mind and she scoffed. "Not for you, wolf."

Her words cut him to the core, for so long he had waited, hoped, only wanting her back, only wanting to repair their fractured family. He thought of Moranna's accusations that he would dare to defile the memory of her mother. Moranna had always loved Necrala, even though the cold female had abandoned her at the first chance. Now he would probably never see his daughter again...and all he had wanted was to tell her that he had never wanted anyone but her mother, never really loved another. Millanna was a constant and painful reminder of a hazy dark night.

"No, not for me?" He voice was distant before his eyes hardened slightly his posture stiffening. Why had she come then? To torment him further? To see her children? He hoped...hoped that she might have found it within to love their pups, to come back.

"What for then?"

"Do I stutter?" She grumbled, body stiff. What did he take her for? Once more fantasizing of her 'finally coming to her senses', to race back to his embrace, raise her tail and want to build a family? The femme snorted at the idea, he was obviously still the same wolf. But being here made her anxious and even angrier, seeing him was like constant nails to a chalkboard, a nagging flea with a tail.

His question made her hesitate, knowing it was a loaded question. She had been curious about the pups, though she drove into her own mind that it hardly meant she wanted or truly cared about them. What was she to say? She wanted to be reminded of her weaknesses in sickly pelted children, his children, her coloring. But.....the other pup. The one she'd just seen. She was the same. That, Milanna, was it. How was that possible?

Either Musketeer would have the gall to backbreed to one of his daughters, despite his obsession she doubted it. Or something else happened. No! Impossible! She growled. "What was that pup, just now?" She inquired sharply, changing the subject to Milanna.

"Our youngest, Millanna..." He finally replied irritated, why was she pretending? did she so fully renounce the lives they had made together? She was ever tormenting him ever confusing him with her hot touches and ice cold wit. One moment she would come to him or call for him and he lovingly rushed to her side only to wake and feel the wrath of her fangs or claws.

Her insults rang in his ears and ravaged his heart. Why did she hate him so much when all he had wanted was to love her? He thought bitterly of his younger brother, Butter had been so lucky...a beautiful mate and healthy pups an ideal family. Meanwhile he had struggled to provide the pups with the ideal, luckily the pack had been ever supportive and his children had always been well loved. When Venera gave birth unable to name her pups father he had stepped in as uncle to help, and she had mothered Millanna as best as she was able at her young age. Still that wasn't the way it was supposed to be he thought bitterly.

"Moranna is gone, she loved you...so much...to the end." His voice was weaker now the raw pain there, the aching lack of hope. A father who knew he would never see his precious daughter alive again.

Our youngest. Our youngest. Our youngest. The words rang in her ears, and reverberated a knot of truth in her throat. She did see herself in that pup. And she did remember that night. A pang of guilt, no not guilt, self loathing she felt as she thought of it. She was worms, only worms. The femme couldn't meet his gaze, tail twitching anxiously behind her.

Why did she feel like this? Not the hate, the hate for him, the hate for herself, this existence. She always felt that, but this shame for lack of a better word. Her being here, what had happened not too long before, dropping that pelt of wriggling pups. She was a dog, coming back for yet another kicking. It was repulsive and uncontrollable and dare she day it, scary. She didn't want this.

Eyes widened and she looked towards Musketeer with a look of disgust and disbelief. What did he do? She still knew their names, remembered the sickly white pup with the misfortune to carry her looks most. It would've been simple for her to just slip, just....go. She swallowed, her face growing flat once more. "How long."

His voice grew thicker with emotion, the words so hard for him, he paced wildly. "The night you brought Millanna...and her brothers...they didn't make it. Moranna was so angry at me, she...she didn't know that they were yours. She, she said that I should have stayed loyal to you, I wanted to explain...it was so cold...raining...she left before we could...and then her scent was washed out...and when we found it..."

He broke off then his pacing halted abruptly before he focused his gaze back on Necrala. "She would call for you...when she was cold...she loved you, missed you..." Much more then you deserved he thought bitterly, but he couldn't make the hurtful words come out. He couldn't hurt her, because he loved her as well unconditionally stupidly.

His pacing made her nervous, anxious to do some of her own. She didn't want or need to hear this. Reminded of her mistakes, those that caused the fall of another, one of his own. Damn her own stubborn nature she couldn't call the child hers, couldn't mourn it as it needed to be.

"What could I have done?" She growled, taking a step back as she watched him, even more unsettled now with Musketeer still. "I didn't ask for her to run out, for her to care. I have done nothing for or to her and now you speak as thought I killed her, instead of her own foolish ways." Necrala snapped, ears pinned defensively against her head. This wasn't her fault, though it was. She didn't accept this, would not bear the weight of another death. She fought in vain to push back visions of her thoughts to keep the pups, to take them out into the rain that night she knew would be treacherous. To wait till morning, to wait till they were older. "For what? To have them grow up like Moranna? To leech to me and follow and pester? To live without being given what they needed? I couldn't give that to them." She didn't understand she was speaking aloud, clicking at the air as thought to clear it of choices made and mistakes proven.

Musketeer watched her wishing her face would mirror his pain, wishing she would realize that all he had ever wanted was to love her. All their children had wanted was their mother to be there a warm figure they could press against to ease their pains and teach them. Nothing would comfort his Moranna now... the thought made him ice cold inside burned his eyes.

"They needed you...I...I just wanted to love you... For us to be a family."

Had his desire been so selfish? He moved closer to her the words tumbling from her mouth made him ache. She was always hurting him her cold cruelty his foolish love, he wondered how different the image would be if she had returned his love. They might even now be warm in a den together eight pups alive and well instead of the three who survived now. Looking at Millanna was a constant agony she was like a mirror image of her older sister they shared a vibrant spirit though Morannas had been dampened by her ill health and Millanna thrived growing stronger each day.

(Omg Roxy, you make me so happy. XD <3 )

"You know that would, that could, never happen." Her voice lost it's edge momentarily, turning from sharp and stern to firm but weary. The femme stiffened as he moved closer, though did not retreat. The image did not fit, and she refused to let him woo her into thinking that. Musketeer standing proud, watching a litter of pups frolic or do whatever stupid motion they did normally and she ruining the picture, sickly coat shining unnaturally in the sun as she slid from the shadows. She wouldn't think of that, it was disgusting. No sense in believing a fantasy, for when it breaks only reality is there to catch you.

She turned her head before he came too close, almost flinching at the prospect of contact. "The others are fine, they've made it. Need had nothing to do with it, they gave that up when they weaned." Necrala muttered lowly, she wouldn't be swayed so easily.
PostPosted: Thu Sep 17, 2009 10:29 pm

"Necrala..." His voice pleaded softly as he looked at her. "You may survive without love, without family or friends...but our pups...they need their emotions fed as much as their stomachs. You barely weaned them...and yet they needed you."
I needed you...I still need you...the words were silent, his eyes already screamed them a thousand times over. He could feel the foolish swelling in his heart, hope, hope as always that she would realize and change.

His mind pulled him back forced him to focus made him angry to shield him from the pain. Hope was foolish and it would only hurt, it always hurt. Anger slowly rose to the surface then a strange thing a red haze mixed with his inner pain. "Don't you care at all? We've lost five of the lives we created! Doesn't that mean anything to you? You think your dead on the outside Necrala, I always saw your beauty, but now I think...I can finally see where death has touched you, inside in your heart." He growled.

"Needed me to what? I survive without all of these things, what would that have taught them? They either would've grown as smart as I or as helpless as you. You scold me for my 'heartlessness' as you call it, then why would I suddenly change for a litter of pups?" Necrala barked, staring him down once more. "A litter that I never even wanted. Were it my decision, they wouldn't have made it to being weaned."

"I don't even know why that-" A stiff nod to the direction in which Milanna left, "is even here. It was a mistake." Her voice dropped slightly, and she hoped it was just enough not to be noticed. A mistake that she would make sure would never happen again.

A rigid snarl pulled her lips back to show sickly pink gums. He would do better to watch the way he was talking. "Death comes naturally, everything dies. The sooner you learn that, the better off you are, wolf. If I am dead than I am appeased, because I am truth. Do you not find it coincidence? That they all looked like me?" She drew herself back up to her full height, still shorter in stature than Musketeer but intimidating all the same. It disgusted her to think there was a little less in her now than there was before, but with the realization she figured there was.
