Negaverse: Lieutenant Lazulite

Name: Kinkade Burke

Nickname: Dangerous territory there*.

*If, hypothetically, he were to meet Gabe/Lt. Graphite, he might acquire the nickname 'Kinky'. This is a highly probable hypothetical situation, but since it hasn't actually occurred, he'd prefer that I left that off of his profile. Except it's too late for that.

Age: 18

Birthday: July 13

Sign: Cancer

Blood Type: O+

School: Sovereign Heights

Kinkade's parents would have nothing less than Sovereign Heights for their child. They enjoy telling everyone how their son was awarded a full scholarship, but they turned it down and paid for the whole thing themselves. It's only stretching the truth a little bit - he received a partial scholarship, and his parents were hasty to cover the rest. While he does seem to enjoy the school, and finds the environment refreshing, his attendance is more for the sake of his parents' bragging rights than his own education.

Fav. Food: Kinkade has a guilty pleasure in the form of mini Cinnabon rolls. He tries not to let anyone know about this, but it is certainly his favorite. A more public favorite is prime rib with au jus.

Hated Food: Little Debbie Snack packs. He has a taste aversion to them all due to an unfortunately timed stomach ailment as a child. He also dislikes celery and peanut butter with raisins, also due to unfortunate timing - this instance, however, involved picnics and flies.

Hobbies:
Reading: Though he lives a rather extravagant life now, Kinkade's beginnings were somewhat rough. He did not have a television set in his home, and spent most of his time reading rented books from the library. He never made the transition towards watching television even when one was available, and would prefer a good book over the latest hot HBO show any day.

When he was younger, he loved books that were far into the realm of fantasy. Now he prefers historic fiction, (his favorite being Night of Flames) alternate history, and non-fiction (favoring architectural and medical science history, especially The Cambridge Illustrated History of Medicine, though he occasionally entertains his youthful love of fantasy. Currently, he is reading The Child Thief by Brom, and is very immersed in it. The thought of being kidnapped away to a family, albeit a darker one, is exciting to him.)

Architectural Design: Branching off from his adoration of books, he began to scribble out designs for gothic-styled buildings after seeing a picture book of European gothic architecture. He doesn't anticipate a future in architecture, but does enjoy creating his own perfected cityscapes, where he can mentally spend time when he wants to escape the trashy architecture and loud noises of the real world.

Sailing: It's not a hobby that he entertains often, but Kinkade loves sailing with his family. There is nothing more calming to him than the seemingly endless horizon of blue sky meeting its mirror image in dark blue sea. He doesn't like to do any sort of fishing or anything that requires laboring away while he's supposed to be enjoying his time on the ocean. Sailing is all leisurely to him - if he could, he'd have his very own yacht to cruise around the oceans, but his parents don't spoil him that much.

His love of reading has, in the past, bled over into his love of sailing. He liked to peruse books of star charts and old books of maps used by sailors to navigate, and has done extensive reading on the Naval practices up to the second World War. Anything past that fails to interest him; only personal sailboats and vessels are fun to him in a modernized setting.

Virtues:
Manipulative: Kinkade is spoiled absolutely rotten to the core, and he will get his way. He is sly, persuasive, and will spend as long as it requires to wear someone down, be it for whatever reason. Following his strong beliefs of hierarchy, he never makes attempts on anyone he feels is 'above' him - gaining their approval comes first and foremost, period. Those most susceptible to him tend to be more open-minded. It easier for him to convince them that all of their ideas and beliefs are wrong than to convince them that he is wholly right. While not necessarily a virtue in the eyes of those who find themselves as a pawn, he is not always selfish in his motives. Earn his respect, and he'll be happy to help you out.

Obedient: If he considers you a superior or an equal, he won't question a reason when asked for a favor or when told to step down or lay off of something for a while. This also means he has a drive to want to be teacher's pet; while he doesn't see the position from an academic standpoint, he is the best he can be in class out of respect and admiration for his superiors.

Steadfast: A fatal combination with his assertiveness, Kinkade will not budge when he believes something is right (or needs to be done). Any enemy can be conquered and every homework assignment can be completed in his mentality. He is not blindly stubborn: if he refuses something, he will have a sturdy, logical reason behind it. At least in his mind.

Flaws:
Arrogant: Most peers and younger members of society are below him indefinitely, and there are very few exceptions to this rule. He lives a good life and has no qualms in bragging about it, despite how disheartening it may be. Monetary reasons aside, his traditional methods of entertainment (books and architecture) give him the worldview that television and other modern forms of time-wasting are making everyone stupid, and nothing can be said to convince him otherwise.

Envious: If he admires a teacher or other role-model, and someone else gets in his way, he envies them to the point of hatred, especially if he feels they do not deserve it (which is frequently). His envy for 'things' is short lived, since he can usually just go purchase it, but he hates when someone has something he can't have. Especially if it is a personality trait or a particular skill or talent.

Intolerant: Ignorance is rampant, and that is not okay. Kinkade believes wholeheartedly in treating everything in a mature, logical manner; he has no tolerance for anyone who might be lagging behind, and is bothered by those who don't take life extremely seriously. There is no time for child's play. All things in life must be tactically arranged and strategically thought out, and he is not accepting to people who enjoy excessively leisurely living. Typically, he holds his tongue and silently fumes when he witnesses such horrendous things, but occasionally something tips him over the edge, and a venomous comment towards the offender follows.

Only once has he physically reacted - a particularly stubborn group member repeatedly refused to put any effort into the assignment, and he punched him in the face. And loved every minute of it, even though he was given detention.

Recklessly Devoted: Because of his driving need to be Lieutenant Kissass Supreme, he'll do anything and everything he feels is necessary to be the shining prodigious child. This has the chance of going terribly wrong in two prominent ways (among others):

-Asked to do something dangerous, he completely neglects any reason and puts himself in a terrible position, resulting in harm, embarrassment, or death
-His Fearless Leader does not consider him a prodigious child in the slightest, only sees him as average and annoying, and thus sends him on tasks that do nothing but bring Kinkade public shame

Both instances have happened to Kinkade in the past, but he refuses to acknowledge them so seriously that he's all but forgotten about them.

Challenge:

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION

Eyes: Blue, slightly narrowed in an 'I'm evil and suspect you' sort of way.

Hair: Ruffled, black with blue undertones.

Face: He's very srsbiznes cat, and has a sophisticated, classical look about him.

Uniform: Based off of the Russian and British Navy uniforms worn by WWII naval officers, as seen here, here, here and (if possible) the striped undershirt here. I'd like to keep the stars and bars on the sleeve if possible, but if you would prefer it not be so close to the actual uniform, that's fine. For the color scheme, I'd like gold, a blue similar to the blue in his hair (another shade is fine; just don't want it to clash with the black) and black. Buttons are delicious and a plus, so the double rows of buttons on the coat and the buttons on the cuffs would be awesome.

Weapon:
Lieutenant: Umbrella-ella. Plain black preferably. <3
Captain: Thinking umbrella canesword.
General: idk
General-King: idk again but I am going to invent something epic.

/r/ing?! Anon here to help you out ;3

Ok, first of all, I probably won't be much help. For that I apologize profusely -- I tend to suck at this stuff. BUT it does give me an excuse to tell you how adorable he is, so here goes nothing.

He's adorable. Pain and simple. I wish that I had a character who could interact well with him, because I imagine the cute rps he'd be in and how much fun they'd be, and I just have to smile. I also really love how his hair looks like a sunset. I think it really fits well with both his character and his sphere. (His firefly hairclip fits him perfectly.) The attack was also really creative -- I was actually wondering as I was reading what you were going to do. Kudos, your attacks are awesome.

What I'd like to see (although honestly, my opinion isn't worth anything, so take it with a spoonful of salt) is how his flaws negatively affect things. Obviously frail would certainly be a disadvantage, but could you give a few examples of when this had been terrible for him? Same goes for the virtues, I'd love to see some examples of how these virtues really made him shine. He's an awesome character, maybe I just want to see more ;;;

Really, that's all I can think of. Hope it helped a little... if not, maybe a confidence booster, yes?

-yawns- Shinitini at your service here to crit...OOH SPARKLY! -pounces-
Love the senshi of fireflys idea! New, inventive..Sparkly!!
Everything on your firefly boy actually seems pretty good, well thought out, niceee...-I like himmmm-
The concept for his outfit looks cool too!

Onto mr. Lt..
His nickname is Kink isnt it!? -rofls-
Yo-yo..Epic weapon I must say so! -nods- Very cool!
His flaws and virtues are also well done..-Bah you didnt leave me much to crit!-
Actually..On his one virtue the assertiveness..He doesnt sound assertive so much as he sounds eh..manipulative? An assertive person interjects, says and does what they want regardless of things. Your boy is just spoiled so he's used to getting his way.

on flaws..
As for the Intolerance, Is he intolerant of..messes? Unorganized things? Its a little bit hard to see where your going with that one

Other then that I like everything about your LT! -nods-

Tnxu, Natanon. c: I'll definitely try to extend on what you mentioned! <3 (your opinion is totally valuable, don't be sillyyy~)

Thanks for the compliments, Shini! <3 And I'll tweak and extend on those a bit too. It makes it so much easier when I get feedback, yay. XD Also, he didn't start out with any nicknames, but has been lovingly dubbed Kinky by his future roomie, much to his distaste. So you were close. >_>

Crit on the Lt.!

One thing I'm coming to find: The templated forms really, really don't give enough information to really understand a character! You refer to his having a less "extravagant" time in his life, and it makes me curious - but there's nothing to let me know more about his character's history. It seems that you have some sort of mental timeline, which is good - but it drives me insane trying to speculate on what it is!

But seriously, there is a lot about this character I love. So many of his traits speak to a deeper character, refer to events that shaped him, and I adore that. His lieutenant weapon made me giggle, and his traits and virtues mesh beautifully, and are perfect for an up-and-coming Negaverse kiddo. His hobbies as well are well-designed, though I'd like to see more specifics - what kind of sailing does he like? What's his favorite book or genre?

Really though, what's on the template seems pretty damn complete and satisfying - I can't think of anything that needs to be added or tweaked. What's really missing from this character is just the parts that fall off the template, into the realm that can't be seen by anyone else at this point. I'd encourage you to write up some extended bits about his history and personality and the like, but there's really no need for it. You've done an awesome job thus far!

Reading is a really common hobby now -- what DOES he read, if he's not watching Rome on HBO? And the difficulty with 'manipulative' is that we have to assume that it works -- we have to assume that he IS actually as charming and persuasive as he thinks he is, and this means it's really difficult to play. I really love his teacher's pet virtue, but I'd love to see more on his manipulation in terms of -- how does he manipulate? Who does it work on? Who doesn't it work on?

You say he won't budge when he thinks something is 'right'. What DOES he think is right? What's his honour code? I love his intolerance of dumb/lazy/frivolous people -- put in a little more about that? Does he just ignore them, or does he try to cut them down to size?

Also, why was he sent to Hillworth in the first place?

Under the reading section it says "Though he lives a rather extravagant life now, Kinkade's beginnings were somewhat rough." Is this referring the extravagant life referring to his life in Hillworth? Because I don't believe Hillworth overs an 'extravagant' lifestyle, more of a militaristic boot camp life.

For his flaws, I think that it would be helpful to make one of the flaws be a true weakness, since the way they are described right now may be social flaws as a student, but as a Negaverse can be seen as 'cool flaws' that aren't so much flaws as much as they provide him some bad assness.
Is there a way his virtues and flaws can be manipulated or abused by others?

And the weapon is awesome. Gotta love the umbrella (ella ella, eh eh eh).

I think you have a good set-up for Kinkade as well, but I would be curious to know what traits he values in others. It sounds like he is quite judgmental, sorting out those he meets into those he can obey without question, those who are equals, and the majority who are below him, lagging behind or undeserving of their apparent power. What is it, in his mind, that makes someone his equal or his superior? Is that a function of their physical prowess or social standing alone? Or are there certain personality traits that command his respect? You also mention that he can become jealous of people who possess certain traits - are there any in particular that might be important to mention? (And would you say that he is not happy with who he is because of this? Or are they the sorts of traits that he believes would make it, say, easier to manipulate people?).

Also, it sounds like he is a very social person, establishing very stiff heirarchies in his own mind among people he knows, but his hobbies are fairly solitary things. Maybe not an essential part of the form to specify, but would you consider Kinkade more of an introvert or an extrovert? =O
