Though she'd just reached the age where it was safe to leave her mother's side, Shai Hulud was wary. Yes, of course she came from a daring and adventurous bloodline. Her father's love of the tumultuous ocean and her mother's love of the burning sun and sand should have left a similar daring and passion within their daughter. Shai felt that passion too; that desire for the wind in her hair and the sun on her back. She loved the sea spray and the ocean air... but that was all she knew and now, older, she wanted more.

She'd set out that day in search of whatever that something could be. Alone she walked through the sparse forests bordering the beach. Here and there she picked fruit while her keen ears twitched at the slightest noise. Though Shai was in an adventurous mood, there was a fear in her. It was the fear of the unknown. She did her best to shake that fear from her mind, telling herself to not be scared and to be strong like her father.

Shai stared down a path through the tendrils on her head, the grass worn away by the many kirin who used this place as a regular feeding track. It snaked deeply into the woods, sun dappling the path until she couldn't see any farther and it was engulfed into deep green shadows. Seeing that the path slipped into darkness gave her a chill of fear (she was used to the sun after all). Shai shook her mane, let out a determined snort and pushed herself forward into the shadows of the unknown.

The shadows were his friends, they were his comfort and his betrayal, the shadows were many things and nothing to this solitary stallion. His head hung low as if he were always searching for something, but always nothing. His wings were pulled in close to his sides as a strange fabric flapped just beneath them. White was his coloring, but a silver streaked his hooves and up his legs, this young stallion was still new to his home lands. A metal piece of armor covered his shamed face, Draven as he was deemed by his long past sire was a strange stallion. Walking silently, never really coming close to others of his kind, he feared for their safety more then his own.

Draven walked a path of his own through the trees, tail swaying behind him as dark blue eyes peered past the sockets if his armored mask. Ears twitching at the top of his head, he listened for what he never knew. He could feel it in his hooves that someone else was within the shadows of the forest, his shadows even though they belonged to no one. Stopping just off to one side of the herding trail, he watched one side, then the other, waiting. Waiting to see if his feelings were right, if they were, he was gone... But also something within him told him to stay and 'meet' whatever it was that was coming. Oh the confliction in the tormented soul.

Shai perhaps was not as wary or aware as she could have been. The fluttering of nervousness in her stomach seemed to drown out the sounds of nature and movement around her. Just the thought of exploring somewhere new got her excited and slightly afraid. It was all she could do to stay cool and collected. If she met another Kirin she didn't want to look like a skittish foal! She was an adult now!

When Shai put it all into perspective though, it really wasn't that scary. The shadows were less black and ominous than they were deep green, cool and inviting. She imagined that a nice nap could be had in the comforting hollows of the surrounding tree roots. The birds and animals twittered and moved and she didn't feel threatened at all. Shai picked up the pace as she moved farther away from the familiar beaches, feeling more comfortable, and swished her spotted tail in excitement.

There was the crack of a twig though, slightly ahead on the path, and the pretty young mare froze in her tracks. Her heartbeat picked up and she inwardly chided herself for not being as wary as she should be. She did her best to stare into the shadows, thinking she saw a figure there.. another Kirin hopefully.

Her ears twitched to pick up further noises, but she mostly was trying not to look scared. She shook her mane and pawed the ground. She didn't want to appear threatening but she would be no pushover if this figure meant her harm. Lowering her head in defense, her head armor forward, she cast a serious eye to where she thought the stranger was.

"I can see you. Come on out of there."

Head raising as his ears pivoted forwards, someone else was on the path. Just his luck, shaking out his black mane, some locks falling over his dark blue eyes. One unsure step to another, he pulled his scared corpse of a body from the shadows. From what could be seen of him, he was a handsome stallion, or he could have been. Black and white tipped feathered wings laid in pairs at his sides, black mane laying over his pearly white neck. Even the silver up his legs seemed to give them character. There was also the strange items, ones that hide his shame, his regret.

Standing silently just in the path before the younger mare, blue eyes watching from their protected sockets. The sun shining off the silver faceplate that graced his once handsome face, one that is now marred by sights no mortal should see or endure. A single wing flicked at his side, the other three remaining still, at the edges of his visible sight, the strange markings could be seen, what looked like twin waves....

"If I had wanted to hide, none could see me. If I wish to be seen well... You can guess the rest of that." He phrased carefully, not wanting to cause harm or fright to the youngster.

This stallion was certainly not like any Kirin she had seen before. Firstly, the wings were completely foreign to her. Only had she ever seen birds with wings.. and they only had one pair! Next was his armor. She had been told by her parents of human beings, what happened to kirin who got taken and even about kirin who were born as captives. She was sure that this male could not have gotten that armor on himself. He was intimidating, maybe even slightly frightening, but Shai sensed something a little sad about him.

"Well.." She backed up, just slightly, as he approached and tried to look like she wasn't phased in the least. "I'm sure that's what anyone in your position would say.." Her comment came off slightly snooty and she only realized it after she said it.

"I was just walking this path.. eating." She didn't yet want to tell him that she was strange to these parts. "Why were you in those shadows like that? Are you hiding from someone? Or everyone?"

There was a past that the stallion wished not to speak of before anyone. He didn't know what kind of problems it could have upon the world he has come to know as home. Turning his head to look at the hornless mare before him, perhaps being without a horn wasn't so bad? No! His was a shameful face, his horn but a stump of what it would have been. Shaking his head, the stallion backed away into the shadows once more, though stopped about half way.

"There are many things I wish I could hide from. Many someones I wish I could save from lives I've endured." He shook his head again, black mane stirring at his neck. "More so, there are things I hope to keep hidden from everyone and anyone."

He turned his gaze away from the mare, a hind hoof stomping lightly as a wing shuffled again. Sometimes it was a pain to have many wings, but they were good for their own purposes, one keeping his secrets hidden. Pained eyes closed behind heavy lids, he wanted to hide the feelings of his shame and the shame of those he had betrayed long ago. Though his eyes remained closed, his ears were open, listening.

Shai looked away when he spoke of his secrets. She felt bad for him. It wasn't pity.. but she felt that maybe he should embrace the freedom he had now rather than hide.

"You can keep your secrets.." Her voice had softened and she looked back into the shadows after him. "I won't pry and it isn't my business. Whatever you have to hide can stay hidden." She shook her mane and took only one more step down the path.

"Perhaps you'd like to walk? I'm just out exploring. And on a lovely day there is no reason to be hiding in the darkness. Perhaps the company will do us both good?" Shai motioned with her muzzle in the direction the path led. "My name is Shai Hulud. Mostly they call me Shai. Perhaps if you know this area better than I, you could show me some good hiding places or grazing areas?"

Shai thought maybe she should not have given her name. This stallion was brooding and mysterious but she didn't sense any malice in him. She would offer friendship instead.

Draven gave a shake of his head before turning to lop back into the shadows where he had once come from, well not entirely leaving anyways. It seemed that there was another path that he was following, one less used by others. Pretty much one he just created himself, a blue eye looked back towards the mare. It seemed that he was headed towards another part of the forest that she might have been heading.

"I'd rather be lone, the farther away from others the better." He said softly as if there were others there to listen to what was being said. "But if you like, I can show you to a place that I go a lot to graze. It's a bit of a secluded spot, but it is a nice one... To me at the very least."

Looking forwards again, his black tail twitching up over his flank a little before falling back behind him. An ear pivoted behind him, before he started talking slow steps, normal paces for him. Draven was used to being slow, it seemed that time didn't pass as quickly to him, though most were always looking to get to places in a hurry and never really take in the sights around them. Head low, normal gaze towards the ground, the winged stallion headed back the way he had come.

Shai noted that he hadn't shared his name when she had shared hers and that made her slightly uneasy. Her mother often joked that one day a tall, handsome, mysterious stallion may sweep her away. Shai didn't think, if stallions were all like this one, that she'd be swept away any time soon.

"Your name at least?" Her hooves stamped uneasily on the mossy turf before she started to follow him anyway.

She trotted only a short distance to catch up with the already moving stallion. Shai took the opportunity to observe anything else she could about this kirin that she wouldn't under his own uneasy and scrutinizing eye. The one thing that was the strangest to her, she couldn't help but mention.

"I've never met a winged kirin. Only heard of them." She was young, curious and maybe a bit impetuous. She couldn't be sure if this comment would make this male get more melancholy.. or whether he would speak with her about it.

Draven gave a glance back towards the mare, he was in now way looking to 'sweep' her off her feet. Quite the opposite really, being the solitary nomadic stallion he was, Draven had very little use for the other gender, much less anyone for that matter. Even as the seasons changed and many pairs were coming into term of family building, he was heading the other direction not wanting to endanger those who have yet to begin living. Turning his masked face back forwards, he remained silent for the most part, once and a while a wing would ruffle, but it did very little but straighten the tapestry over his back.

"Draven..." He answered to her stomp and wanting his name. "I'm sure it would be a better pleasure to meet you, Shai, if things were better..." He shook his head and closed his mouth.

Too much was said, far too much unsaid it seemed as Draven kept moving as the trees started to thicken. Once an a while a wing would stretch down his side, feathers being scratched by thorns that would have surely taken the tapestry off his back. A milky white ear flicked back as the mare spoke of hearing about Kirin having wings, but never seen one. Well that was strange, he had seen a few with wings, perhaps not as many as he had, but all the same.

"There are a good many Kirin whom have wings." He insisted not glancing back, though he did stop for a moment. "We are as common as those without I'm sure. I really wouldn't know to be honest." He was right in that aspect, Draven hadn't come to this land not too long ago himself. His body still tired from the long journey, but he dared not rest too long, even his scars ached from their brandishment. Though this was something he would keep to himself, it was his burden to bear.

((hope you don't mind me bringing in my own one. Description of him Here, Mainly he's a dragonic kirin))
Edit: ((WIP Zakiax/Zephar Mainly just posting this because this is what he looks like. Zephars colors though are inversed of Zaks.))

The kirin was a bit smaller then most adults, his eyes were red as the blood running through his veins. Instead of a regular kirin's horn he bore two dark red horns from the top of his head. His tail was long and snake like the top covered with scales. Red hooves with large bat-like wings, a few of the webbing's bore small tears and rips from his past. The dark gray kirin flew through the forest, just above the dense tree line, with the wind through his mane and in his face Zak's mind began to wander.

His mind had fallen on the thoughts of his other personality, he knew it was there, yet he could never remember what had happened when he himself wasn't present. He didn't even know what to call his other personality if it had a name at all. Whoosh! He just had a close call with a tall tree.

For a few moments that close call had brought him out of his thoughts as he shook his head. Even so it wasn't before long that his mind had wandered back to that subject. He hated not being able to know these things. He had a few more close encounters with a few trees. Finally he hit one, it knocked the wind right out of him. His body fell downward breaking many sticks and branches on his fall down into the brush below. A large 'thud' echoed through the forest as his body finally hit the ground, landing on his back. His fall landed him near the location of Draven and Shai.

"Ow.." He muttered softly to himself.

When Draven spoke of how common winged kirin were, she couldn't help but drop her eyes. She was slightly embarrassed by her lack of knowledge of the world and did not want to admit just how sheltered she had been until recently.

"Draven.." She wasn't calling his name, merely repeating it as she followed the brooding stallion deeper into the forest. Just as she was about to speak again there was a loud crash from off of the path. It sounded like something falling from the sky by the way the trees seemed to break on the way down.

Shai was startled and whatever she had been about to say was gone from her mind. Her body tensed and she pawed the ground, circling uneasily.

"What do you think that was?"

The presumed 'crash' alerted his ears and they perched right to the top of his head. Even in the small enclosed space between the trees, a set of black and white tipped wings flailed open, beating in a furry. Draven lifted off the ground and into the branches over head, haphazardly landing somewhere higher over head. Minding to land on a branch that would hold him without letting him down. The tapestry over his back flapped wildly in the motion before falling back into place as he landed, head lowering some, feeling somewhat safer in the shadows he watched the others. Something else was there, something that he didn't like, more then likely because it announced itself quite roughly. Draven's tail wrapped itself around the branch he was seated upon, ensuring that he wouldn't fall.

Really, Draven didn't much care about what was out there. Whatever it was, was something he didn't want to deal with. Dealing with the mare below was enough as it he could stand. But now, this new someone? Draven't nerves were going to be shot near the end of the day if things kept up. Turning his armored face towards the mare once more, but he said nothing almost as if telling her to go and find out what it was. He was going to remain right there, no one was going to get him down from his perch.

"Ow," The tiny stallion muttered softly. He had landed on his back, his wings being crushed under his wings. He rolled to his hooves and shook his self out, "That is the last time I fly when my mind is off on something else." He muttered softly to himself. Turning his head he glanced over his shoulders at his wings as he stretched them experimentally. Zak's ears shifted back on his head wincing. Hopefully they weren't broken, he loved flying and it would break his heart if he couldn't do so for a while.

Shai's uneasiness was halted briefly by her shock that the male with her just suddenly abandoned her at the first sign of danger. One of her first life lessons now was that all stallions weren't as noble and upstanding as her father was.

She huffed, mostly annoyed at the fleeing Draven, and did her best to buck up her courage. Perhaps wat landed would be hostile, but there was always a chance that it was better company than the brooding stallion now hiding in the trees.

Shai approached where the crashing sound came from and as she neared it, she heard a voice through the trees.

"Hello? Who's there?" This was becoming somewhat of a theme for her day. She nosed aside some stray branches and saw the outline of another male, another with wings. Jeez! Did everyone have wings but her?
