Much time had passed since Ranulf had seen his good friend, and though he feared traveling from his home at the foot of the mountains he put his fears aside for this venture. He missed his friend, and thus he set out to see her. He ambled on quietly, trudging through dense undergrowth and tall grass. Fall was coming and a chill wind blew, sending his mane billowing behind him like a cream colored banner. To tell the truth it felt good, the wind in his face. It had been quite some time since he had left his home, and the dense trees there always dwindled the winds speed to near nothing.

He slowed his pace after quite some time. He had set out at dawn and now the sun was high in the sky. His belly rumbled loudly, voicing it's protest to the lack of contents. With a sigh he bent his head to the ground and began to nibble the green grass. To stop meant it would take longer to get to Pocket, but to not stop would mean exhaustion for him.

In a small, but spacey den near conveniently located by a pond, an usdia mare lived. She laid down on the compact soil of her cozy den, her brows furrowing together. Everything that had happened to her, she chose to... push it behind her. Her ears flicked back knowing that no matter what, there would always be sadness in her heart. There would always be the insecurity that she wasn't good enough, or she wasn't worth the time. The mare tried to get better, after seeing Ranulf that one time, convincing herself that she was on a road to self-destruction if she continued to dwell on... She stopped her trail of thought, her eyes nearly glazing over from it.

Feeling a rumbling in her stomach, she knew she should eat or at least attempt to. She still was probably still seemed underweight to anyone, but it was a considerably much better than when she was depressed. She ate enough, but not enough to give her back her "healthy" weight. She at least looked well-put together, getting groomed again by a familiar human...

The mare stood up on her hooves and made her way to the mouth of her den. Her eyes flickered side to side, searching for any danger before slipping away from her home. She nudged a bush to hide her den from the outside before heading out to a nice grazing spot closeby.

The rustling of a nearby bush made Ranulf drop to the ground to attempt to hide in the grass. Oh, how he wished he had his pile of leaves at this moment. There were so many dangers in the world, and at the moment he was very vulnerable. he peeked up, keeping silent as he did so, to see who or what it was that had made the bush move. To his surprise a very familar soquili stepped out from the foliage. 'It's Pocket!!' Ranulf called out in his mind. Had he been s close to her this whole time? Had it been so long that he had forgotten where her home was? He guess it had been.

He stood and smiled warmly as he watched Pocket make her way over to what looked like a pleasant place to graze, much better in fact than the grass he had been munching on. Before he knew it his hooves were carrying him towards her as if they had a mind all their own. "Pocket!" Ranulf called out before he got too close to her; he didnt want to frighten her by just randomly speaking right next to her. "Hello Pocket." He greeted once he got a bit closer, bowing to her as he drew closer.

As she made her way to a grazing spot, she had a feeling someone was following her for some reason. She tensed up visibly, wondering maybe it was a bad time to wander out of her den or not. Hearing her name being shouted out, she wondered who that could have been. She didn't know that many, or at least, know that many to be... excited to see her except.. Her eyes widened. '... R-ranulf?!'

As she turned around, she looked behind her to see Ranulf. It was a good sense of relief to see it was a familiar face, rather than, a complete stranger... or someone she probably would have not liked to see.. The mare looked to Ranulf with a watery, nervous smile. ".. H-hi." She said a bit soft-spokenly, her eyes searching for any differences in her childhood friend. She blinked, a confused look in her eyes as she watched him bow, but chose not to comment it. "W-what brings you here...?" She asked in the same tone before, tearing her gaze away keeping her gaze on the ground.

Pocket remembered him this time. The grin spread even wider across his face; she was doing much better than the last time they had met. He looked her over from head to hoof, looking to make sure she was still in good care - he still couldn't forgive himself for the condition she had been in before; he should have been there for her. His ears pinned back flat against his skull at her tone as she greeted him. She had smiled, but... She still wasn't happy. His smile faded a bit at the confusion in her eyes after his bow. Had he done it wrong? His father said it was polite to bow to mares, and he had been working on it so hard; to not trip when he did so, to not step on his mane and to hold his head up the way she had showed him to do so. He didn't mention it, he'd just have to work on it more for the next time they met.

And then there was Pocket's question. "I..." Ranulf began to speak as Pocket tore her gaze away to look to the grown. Maybe he had done wrong by coming to her; did she not want to see him any more? "Ranulf miss Pocket, so Ranulf come." He took a step away, his gaze now dropping to the ground. "I sorry."

Pocket Lint couldn't help but fidget a bit. She had been so secluded, so withdrawn, that it felt weird to socialize again. The last time she had been out was the last time Ranulf had visited, and she wasn't even doing well then. She was even confused by the actions Ranulf did. Why did he need to go down on one knee? Was he stretching? She had never seen that before. He ears flickered, not noticing his apparent feelings since she was staring at the ground avoiding his gaze. She was too nervous to look him straight in the eye.

Her ears perked straight up and point straight towards Ranulf. Then she heard him apologize, sounding so sad.. She picked up her gaze to look at him looking at the ground. "N-no... D-don't be s-sorry." She said quietly. Her gray-blue eyes reflecting some sort of concern and confusion. "I-I'm happy to s-see you again..." She stuttered as her gaze lowered again, too nervous to meet his gaze after admitting that. "R-ranulf is the only one t-that sees me. Not even F-frilly, or M-melos v-visits."

Ranulf looked sadly up at pocket, his head still held low. "No mommy, no daddy, Brother, sister - Only Ranulf?" No wonder she was how she was. To be alone, completely and utterly for so much time; he wondered now how she managed to make it this long.

His gaze dropped again and he sat down as he contemplated deeper into the thought. How much did that say about him? If he were to leave his best friend, only friend, alone for so long without a visit, then how good of a friend was he really? His brain seemed to stop at that point, the question echoing in his mind. He honestly could not say he had been a good friend, or even a decent one, and that thought the simple idea that all this time he had been doing Pocket wrong broke something inside him. He starred intently at the ground, his eyes unable to focus on a single blade of grass. "No one?" He finally whispered.

Pocket Lint shook her head. "N-no momma, no daddy, no brother or sister." She said softly, her eyes lowering to the ground. She wondered if they still considered her family. Maybe she should go look for them... She hadn't really tried, but didn't they know where she lived? Maybe they moved away without telling her. She couldn't really know.

Maybe her loneliness was her fault. She didn't seek out anyone to socialize with. She didn't try to reconnect with old friends. She just stayed hidden in her hole, sulking over her broken soul. But, isn't that normal? She sighed, not really wanting to think about it. Her stomach let out a growl, telling her she was hungry. She nearly jumped at the sound, remembering a memory from when she was a young filly and feared her own stomach. That brought a tiny smile to her face before, looking back to Ranulf. "No one." She said clearly, without her normal stutter. "But, you." She said before getting up to find something to eat.

The growl of Pocket's stomach made Ranulf wince a bit in fear, the only thing that brought his mind back from it's stroll down thinking how horrible of a friend he had been to Pocket. It reminded him of his fathers scars, and his stories. It also reminded him that Pocket had been heading out to graze when he had interrupted her. He didnt look up as she spoke, didnt see the smile.

But he heard her.

Steady speech; something that he had rarely heard from her. It was pleasant to hear, made him happy in a way. The corners of his lips turned up slightly for a moment before he heard her hoof falls. She was going to find something to eat. Should he follow? He didn't know. He was still beating himself up over what he had done (or not done), he didn't think he could look her in the face without telling her sorry again, and yet he felt as though he shouldn't leave her alone. Slowly, silently, he got to his hooves, stepping forward timidly to follow her to find something to eat. He too was hungry. "What Pocket want to eat?" He asked, his voice barely above a whisper.

Pocket Lint caught the look on Ranulf's face. She frowned lightly, not exactly knowing what he was thinking in his head. She could only speculate what he was thinking, and she was thinking about it was about her well-being. Her ear flickered, as she moved her thoughts to concentrate on food. What -did- she want to eat?

The small mare looked back over to Ranulf again. "D-do you have any s-suggestions?" She asked, tilting her head slightly waiting for him to catch up.

Ranulf continued to look to the ground, his eyes following his hooves and each spot that they landed. His belly rumbled lightly, the idea of food causing his stomach to voice it's own opinion. "Ranulf.." He started, still attempting to think of what there was to eat. He didn't know these parts very well, it had been so long since he had come to visit, and he had forgotten all the types of edible berries and flowers and grasses that there were. In the end, he had to admit honestly to her. "I not know what to eat; not know what here to eat." He paused. "But I eat what Pocket eat."

Pocket Lint lightly smiled to Ranulf. "J-just curious to see w-what you m-might have w-wanted to eat." She said softly, continuing to walk out further into the vegetation. She came upon a patch of cantaloupes, watermelons, tomatoes, lettuce. It was an odd patch of fruits and vegetables in one area. She kind of guessed that the two-leggers had made a garden, and possibly tended to it for any passerby soquili to chow on. She had a particular sweet tooth today, and looked at the last of the season watermelons. "D-do you w-want to share a w-watermelon?" She asked, walking up to a large watermelon.

Ranulf stared at the water melon for a moment before walking up to it. He had honestly never seen anything like it. "What is it? How eat?" He asked curiously, tapping the melon with his hoof. "Can we eat? Might not be good... Cold coming..." He whispered morosely.

Pocket Lint tilted her head at Ranulf. "It's a f-fruit." She said. "R-really j-juicy and s-sweet." She said with a light smile, getting excited about eating a watermelon. She knew how huge they were, and she didn't like wasting it when she couldn't finish one by herself.

The mare looked at the stallion with a confused expression. "We c-can eat it. I l-like it, but if R-ranulf doesn't like, w-we can eat something else." She said with a nod, not wanting her friend to eat something he was hesitant about.

"Oh, no no no..." Ranulf mutterd blushing slightly. "Ranulf eat the fruit! I just..." He looked at the large green oval thing, tapping it with his hoof. It made a hollow sound; were they susposed to eat the outside too? Was there anything in the inside? "How Ranulf open so Pocket may Eat fruit?" He felt so ignorant at this moment, not knowing that the thing before them was a type of fruit and that they could eat it. He felt like... a child. He couldn't help but feel that way, even though he knew grownups learned new things every day. He didn't let it phase him though. He tapped the oblong object with his hoof one more time. "We eat green part?"
