It was early morning. Ylva could tell by the slight smell of dew that trickled down their caverns tunnel. She knew it was time to get up and go find breakfast for her and the family. Ideally before the sun rose. That didn't always happen though. You could never predict what you were going to find out in the great savanna's of Africa.
With a stretch, she slowly got up and lightly padded to the mouth of the tunnel. Before going up the hyena glanced at Asa and the pups and sighed. As much as she hated to admit it, the hyena loved her family and would do anything for them.
But right now wasn't the time for such sweet thoughts, and Ylva knew this. The hyena started her way to the mouth of the cavern. Ylva only wanted the best for her family and that meant to bring home something every day.

Adjoa hardly woke when her mother stirred. It wasn't until the heat of Ylva's body disappeared from her side that she opened her eyes to look for her. As soon as she spotted the familiar form she was on her feet, balance still wobbly, to chase after her.
Even in all this she was careful not to wake her siblings. She wanted mom's attention all to herself after all.
Just as she reached her mother's back feet she sat down and started crying. Where was she going? Why was she leaving her warm bed?
Unable to express herself well she just wined a little more, "Mama~"

Ylva turned her head to find one of her daughters wining. The hyena frowned and cursed under her breath slightly. She did not want to wake up the rest of the clan. The hyena did a U turn and slid down the glowing blue hole.
"You shouldn't be up right now Adjoa..." Her tone wasn't bitter or annoyed but it wasnt a pleased tone. The hyena craned her neck down so that she was eye level with her little girl. "Mom needs to bring back breakfast and you're far to little to be up this hour..."
The hyena poked the little girl with her nose, "I'll be back. I always am.." The hyena offered a shaky half smile. The pup thing..... it was still new to her. Being called -cringe- mom.

(( THIS IS MY FAULT BUT STILL. "Ylva turned her head to find one of her daughters wining." Don-chyu try to tell me that our inability to spell whining is not hilarious. ))
Adjoa was still, like most young things, a creature of instant gratification. The offer of breakfast soon simply did not compare to the promise of mom now. Well, as long as she could keep her mother from going to get breakfast.
She squirmed uncomfortably, wobbling forward to press herself up against her mother. Her little tongue flicked out, trying to lick mom's nose.
"I can go, mama~" she whined. Forget the fact that she had barely even poked her nose outside the cave.

Ylva sighed and eyed the little hyena before her. True the pups had been allowed out of the cavern, but barely. A breath of fresh air and that was it. Ylva wasn't taking any chances with her litter.
But now the female was in a pickle. Clearly Adjoa wasn't going to go back to sleep without her and clearly if the two stood here and argued, it was likely they'd wake up the rest of the clan. Ylva chewed her lip some before grumbling.
"You can go with me, but, you so much as wander an inch from my side and you'll be back in the cavern," Her tone was a stern whisper. She had a feeling this was going to be a pain, but what choice did she have at this point.
"You have to walk your self. I won't carry you." The hyena gave Adjoa a lick on her head .

The pup responded by getting up and moving again, weaving in and out between her mother's legs. She could stay close, and she would. So close that Ylva would hardly be able to walk, let alone hunt. It didn't help any that whenever she wasn't tripping her mother she was stumbling herself. She crawled out between her mother's front paws, looking up with the biggest grin on her face and her little tail wagging a mile a minute, "I can do it, mama!"

Ylva wanted to yell, she wanted to so bad, but not when they were so close to the den. Gritting her fangs as she walked, she was extra careful not to step on the happy little pup going about her happy business.
"Adjoa..." Her tone was flat and warning like, but before she could lecture her daughter, Ylva had tripped and was flat on her back. The hyena looked up in disbelief at the little hyena who had caused the fall.

She looked up with her big puppy dog eyes when her mother said her name. She was a good girl! Yes she was! When her mother tripped she didn't even realize that she'd been the cause, using the opportunity to circle around and lick her mother's face. "Mama~ We gonna play mama?"

Ylva could have face pawed right there. This runt was a ball of energy. Had she been like that when she was a pup? When she was naive and innocent? Probably.
The hyena craned her head down and licked at that pup, " Why aren't you a ball of energy. How about we play the quiet game. First one who makes a noise looses," Ylva lifted her head content with her quick fix. How long before it went south was the real question.
This pup was to cute to yell at though. She wasn't about to break a pups spirit.

"Kay, mama," the tiny pup said with a grin. It didn't even occur to her that this was noise. She then sat down, holding her breath. Surely this would take all her concentration. She looked up at Ylva and her tail started going again, wagging back and forth and sometimes even in little circles. It made a fair amount of noise as it brushed up against the dry grass but again this didn't even occur to her.

Ylva gritted her teeth, but she swallowed her harsh words. It was a bit sour as it slid down her throat. She wanted to scream at Adjoa for being so loud. But she couldn't. Adjoa was just trying to help and the two didn't need to really hunt. Scavenged meal was just as good. Assuming there was something around here worth scavenging.
Ylva would be rubbing her temples right about now if she had hands. Child raising was hell.

After a little while her cheeks started to turn purple and her lungs began to burn. About then her tail stopped wagging and she closed her eyes. This hurt, this hurt more then she'd expected.
She let the previous breath out with a pained yelp before gasping for air and preparing to hold her breath again. This time she didn't wag her tail. She'd more or less forgotten about her mother's silence game. Now it was all about the holding her breath game.

Ylva pawed at the now purple in the face pup. She wanted to call her daughter and idiot so bad right now but she couldn't. Ylva sighed and shook her head.
"Stop that," She said flatly. "You could hurt your self by holding your breath to long."
And Ylva had lost the silence game. This thought came to her after the deed was done. s**t. Now Adjoa was probably gonna yip and bounce about. s**t s**t s**t s**t. Ylva silently cursed in her head. s**t.
Not that she minded talking... just not when she was trying to provide for her family. So was life she supposed. The hyena just didn't have the heart to break such a young girls spirit. Adjoa was pure and good like she had once been.

Contrary to Ylva's predictions Adjoa didn't start making more noise. In fact, the next sound that came from her maw was in the form of a yawn.
"Mama?" she wobbled closer to the older hyena. "I'm so sleepy, mama."
All that running around and playing was really starting to take it's toll.
