Why is there all this fuss over a ballistic missile weapon out of historical context? This is a Fantasy Roleplay there should be some leeway. We can't really play true to a Medieval European context if we aren't at the location. We are wielding elements after all. In fact, a handgun (or in my case a Gunblade) wouldn't any more of a threat than a Crossbow or Arquebus in the right hands. A magic wand would be a greater threat. Shields can stop bullets and arrows. A wand launching disintegrating rays or magic missiles would render a shield useless. In the case of Magic Missile, defense is futile without a few specific spells.

I mean if we're going to nitpick technological discrepancies, perhaps we should more carefully inspect and adhere to the general culture and styles of the era? Though adhering to culture is something I wouldn't suggest. elementalists and magic users in general weren't looked highly upon durring the Dark Ages, whether or not their abilities were legitimate.

Quite frankly, I'm surprised there are so few archers and arcanists in this RP.

Evangel, what's your point exactly?

Well, I was a bit baffled from the start about what the time setting was. I went ahead and made my characters. Two months ago the Q&A section gets this confusing post on how this is a "Modern Medieval Fantasy" setting. Though further descriptions made it seem like whoever set it up didn't have the slightest grasp of history of the time. It made mention of Galileo Galilei, who lived his life during the Renaissance. It has since changed since I recently checked and most of that was gone.

Now there's this Topic on the main page about technology level. I can see attempting to enlighten the RPers about the time setting they are supposed to be in, but I notice this only covers firearms and is fitted in with a childish rant.

This leads me to believe that the entire setting rule is just an excuse to do away with firearms simply because certain users here don't understand effective role-play with them.

I guess my point is, is this a Medieval Roleplay and which part of it. The Medieval times or Middle Ages spans a good thousand years. And if it is indeed European, doesn't this take away katanas held by a few players? Or any weapon of non European origin from that time?

Or is this just a "No Guns" Roleplay? If it is, at least have the gall to say it up front.

Hmm... Well we did come to a consensus about the situation two months ago, like you mentioned. (I don't think I'm permitted to talk about it any further.)

And I'll admit, even I'm guilty of packing some heat I even wrote a guide about it in another guild, so I'm not exactly unbiased in all of this. I'll look into it.

And besides, we have elementalists throwing around firestorms, devastating earthquakes, hurricanes, Tornados, the sorts of things that you would think would make ballistic projectiles modern both historic be a minor threat. This sort of ability already alters the battlefield immensely. Military tactics and army based combat seem somehow, ineffectual.

Woven Red
Welcome to information about weapons and technology.

This is a Modern Medival Roleplay
The level of technology stems from the medieval range, such as limited access to doctors, no electrical systems, automobiles, or plumbing on average. Factories do not exist, so mass production isn't available. You'll still need to see a cobbler for a pair of shoes, a seamstress for a new dress, a tanner for a leather pouch, a bowmaker and fletcher for your hunting gear, and a blacksmith for your armor, and metal tools. Luckily the merchant quarter is crawling with such artisan businesses. There's craftspeople of greater skill here and there across the world as well.

Plumbing is a recently implemented perk to the Capital City, but currently other nation cities (except water) are limited to wells and simple pumps.

Weapons and Armaments are generally constructed of steel, wood, or mythic materials of metallic or fibrous nature. This means that while an elf may appear wearing leafweave or mythril armor, a plastic riot shield would be unheard of. Magical enhancements can be placed upon weapons.

Technology General technology runs up to just before the renaissance period. Some technology of renaissance to industrial age (such as printing presses, explosives, firearms, and steam engines) is accessible but only to technologists and inventors who actively devote themselves to the pursuit.
Located at: rules for weapons and technology

Now, considering that my thread is still incomplete, I think this should end any arguments here. If this is still unsatisfactory for you, then I might want to recommend that rules do change (and no, I have nothing to do with such changes, all I do is play by such rules and get tired when others play above such rules), and if you do not like how a rule currently is, or even have advise for the guild in general (rather it be rules, or just a cool idea you have) then I would advise you to PM a moderator, which can be found on the guild home page at the very bottom. Now I have had other people suggest things for that thread, and I hope to not only get to their request, but also to cover what technologies existed in the other regions, as you have also requested (in a round about way).

To Evangel and any others,
Nathien is helping clear up the issue,
months ago when it came up we did not anticipate how much of an issue it could or would become.
I would also like to agree, if you have any questions or concerns, I would advise you to pm a moderator. More specifically I would prefer it if you pm'd me or Phaeton since we are the most in control.

However, forgive me if you disagree, but I'm locking this topic.
When Nathien completes his research and me and him go over things we will be sure to let everyone know and changes will be made accordingly.
