It was one of those hole in the wall coffee places that was really easy to just walk past, nestled between an office supply and copy shop and a little boutique mostly frequented by teenagers and twenty somethings with an affinity for tight pants and alternative music. One of those places where they refused to call a small a tall, where you could get your latte with whole, skim, or soy, and none of the fancy add-ons, and coffee was coffee and you didn't have to cover it up with caramel syrup.
Darsais liked it for the atmosphere. They had funky prints from local artists on the walls, and none of the furniture matched. In this way, the shop and the girl suited each other, because none of her clothes really matched, either, but somehow it was a look. She'd gone Au Natural with her hair today, though, or as Au Natural as you could go when your hair was purple in its default state.
It had been good to finally get a text back from Sei after so long, and Darsais fully intended to grill him on where he'd been... as soon as he showed up. She knew this place was out of the way, but it certainly wasn't the Leaky Cauldron.
She sat back in her chair, took a sip of her latte, and watched the rain, waiting for one of the gray figures hurrying by in the street to resolve itself into her friend.

The coffee place Darsais had decided to pick this afternoon was not an unknown place for the blonde teen - after all, his guardian did quite fit the description of ' twenty somethings with an affinity for tight pants and alternative music', so he had wound up following her there a few times in his younger days. Now there was no need for him to follow Zero like a puppy anymore, but at least, he knew where to go.
Leaving Raven's side had proven difficult, expecially since she was still dealing with the initial recovery of her surgery, but in the end it had been the foxcoon who had basically kicked him out, assuring him that she probably wouldn't much more than sleep, that yes, if something happened she would call, and will you just go see her already ???
And so there he was, walking into the small coffee shop and swerving sideways once he spotted Darsais in the crowd - it was always easy, look for the funky hair. "Hey there." He offered with a smile.

Darsais beamed up at him. "Hey!" she said happily, and set her coffee aside so she could get up and hug him. "Congratulations," she said, "you're officially taller than me."
She motioned for him to sit. "Do you want anything? I'll pay since I'm the one who dragged you all the way out here. I'd ask you how prom went and apologize for not being able to make it but that was about forever ago." She settled into the couch next to him and picked her coffee back up, laughing a bit self-consciously. "It's probably better I didn't go, actually, because whenever I show up at one of your kind's shindigs, weird s**t happens."
She held a hand up like a gun and "fired" it at picture frame on the opposite wall. "Pshhhhhew. Laser tag and all that."
"Before you ask," she added, "I did eventually get that dumb plesiosaur out of my bathtub. The landlord evicted it, actually--"
Another laugh.
"But enough about me," she added insistently. "How have you been? Tell me all about it!"

...well, one thing he was no longer used to was Darsais' run on-chain on sentences. It took him a little while to process it all.
"It was a fa'e gathering." He said with a grin. [colo=mediumpurple]"Of course s**t happened. It always does, rainbow haired robot or no rainbow-haired robot." In fact, he wondered with a huge gathering of fa'e could indeed happen without s**t going down. Nothing had quite happened to him, but he'd been dragged into it all the same.
Part of him would have probably prefered if she'd kept on talking about herself, actually. Talking about himself was not something he was very good at. "Fa'e stuff. Work. Girlfriend recovering from surgery." The word was still relatively new and odd in his mind. He'd gotten pretty used to daily living it, but actually talking about it ? That he, out of anything on this earth, had a girlfriend ? Insanity ! "Dad came back out of nowhere in spite of me, my guardian, and pretty much everyone involved looking for him for years. Lots of stuff."

Darsais cocked one of her peculiarly shaped eyebrows and took a long sip of coffee. "Sounds like I missed a lot," she said, nodding sagely. There were a number of things in his statement that didn't exactly fly with her, mostly because she knew nothing about the context. Well, she supposed that a lot could happen in a year, even if her life lately had mostly involved going to classes and rescuing snails.
"Slow down, rewind, back up and fill me in," she said, and gave him a playful nudge. "Girlfriend?" she asked. "I really need to get out more often."

"Yeah. My boss's twin." Thankfully the whole thing seemed to fly well with Kendall. At least, he had not threatned to remove his non-existent balls just yet, which he figured meant it was going along just fine. "Her name is Raven... Maybe you can meet her later if you'd like ? I think she'd probably kill me if I brought you home while she was still high on painkillers." Yeeeeppp... he would probably die.

"Sure," said Darsais, and nudged him again. "Is she nice? Is she pretty?"
Obviously, she was trying not to ask why she was in the hospital. Which wasn't to say she wasn't sorely tempted and that the topic would not come up later.
"So. Um. I had a really unexciting several months," she said, sensing a lull in the conversation. "My music career fizzled, any sort of attempt to find out more about my people lead to a dead end in the far reaches of the internet, and I still don't know what I'm going to college for. But at least you're having a productive time!"
She sighed.
"Who am I kidding. What kind of coffee do you want?"

"Just black." He said with a shrug. He would arrange with the waiter to have it all put on his bill later. "She's really... It's actually pretty hard to really put in words what I feel, actually." Nothing new here exactly, though... he frowned all the same. "It's like there isn't a word that exist that actually... fits. We're not really similar, but at the same time she seems to complete me exactly because of that. She makes me see things in ways I havn't ever seen them in before." He hesitated for a moment. "...Im not sure if that actually made any sense ? But she is very nice. And pretty." She was pretty, of course - gorgeous, even - but Sei had always been more attracted to what she was, rather than to what she looked like.
