Salvia divinorum, Diviner's Sage, Seer's Sage, whatever you want to call it. Have any of you had experience with using salvia, either in recreational or spiritual pursuits? I'm considering experimenting with salvia as an aid to out of body experience or astral projection, but I'm doing lots of research about the topic before I commit to it. So thoughts, opinions, experiences, why I shouldn't do it, etc. would be much appreciated. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salvia_divinorum

I try to stay away from any hallucinogens, they make it hard to tell if you're really seeing something through psychic abilities, or if it's just the herb....

How do you know if you're actually seeing something in trance anyway? Could all just be a dream. Shamans have used entheogens since the dawn of time.

My ex-boyfriend expressed interest in the stuff...I'm not sure how I'd fare, though. I had enough of an odd experience on laughing gas...

Azana Brown My ex-boyfriend expressed interest in the stuff...I'm not sure how I'd fare, though. I had enough of an odd experience on laughing gas... I've never had experience with anything but alcohol, but my significant other isn't thrilled with my interest in salvia. So that is affecting my decision as well. I'm still researching it.

I'd say as long as it's legal in your state and you have a reasonably experienced spotter with you, give it at least one go.
Of course, first find out WHY your S.O. is against it. Is she worried about addiction? Or perhaps the stigma often involved with "drug users"? Or that it will harm your health? See what you can do to calm her anxieties about it, even if it means limiting your attempts to only one.

And she doesn't like the idea of me using a drug, a hallucinogen at that, because it's unknown what kind of effects it might have on me. She just doesn't like the idea. I think it might also have something to do with her family situation, but I'm not going to put her business all on the Internet. For this reason I've decided to try binaural beats before considering salvia more seriously.

While that is a valid point, my personal taste is just to not use the stuff.
