What is Kurogane's language??? i've been wondering because i want to know what he says in book 2 on page 77, page 78,and on page 80. please help me find this out! (if possible fai's language 2! blaugh )

The text they used to represent his language isn't necessarily what he would speak. I mean, I think Fai's language had triangles in it, for example. I'd assume he speaks a very traditional form of Japanese, being that he's from Japan, but I think the manga showed the characters as Chinese in the Del Rey version.

I believe they said Japanese because he's from Japan.

I'm assuming you heard it in the English anime?

It's pretty inaccurate, actually. In the manga, it's more similar to languages from Russia or Europe. French is actually a really bad guess on it, since the characters look more roman or European than French. I think Bee-Train was just trying artistic license, aha.

Either way, he also resembles someone from Russia, and so it makes more sense. P:

I guess here's where a Chinese GCSE comes into use...

I translated the Kanji characters in Kurogane's dialogue:

Kanji is a Japanese character form based on Chinese, and since Kurogane uses only Kanji in this dialogue, he could be speaking either. However, because of the culture of his country (Tsukiyomi, Amaterasu, etc.) and the fact that he uses a Japanese sword, I'd say it's Japan.

Also, Fai uses Russian characters. Though I could not find a translation for his dialogue, I can say that all characters he speaks are in modern Russian. No outdated characters could be found.

Edit:

Okay, not sure if this only applies to my computer, but all Photobucket images are not showing. I'll give a text translation instead. Kurogane firstly asks about travel/carrying to an island by flight, then the next page, he talks about a path to Hanshin Castle.

Kurogane speaks Japanese. It says so in the translation notes. He's from Japan, even though they call his country Nihon. Nihon is Japanese for Japan. The reason the characters are also close to Chinese is because they're in kanji, which is either the same or extremely similar between Japan and China.
