 Running. Always running.
Stumbling.
Starving.
Dying . . .
Her injuries made her plunder instead of stalk, sending her prey fleeing before she could even see it.
She had fled. Ran with her tail tucked like a terrified pup. Why? Because Hephaestus would have killed her. She hadn't expected that. Athena thought of her kind, warm-hearted brother, but in that moment, when their blood coated each other's fangs, his eyes had been cold. Dead.
He had had enough, and he would've have protected his pack at all costs, even if it meant killing her. As soon as she had attacked him, she was no longer pack.
The femme had wanted to escape her family, but not through death. So she had fled.
And now, she was dying. Wounded leg, wounded pride . . . it would end up killing her. She stumbled along, delirious with hunger, her leg aching constantly. She kept it tucked tight to her chest, and the movement made her awkward.
A noise made her stop, made her look around with blurred vision. Made her realize she was surrounded . . . Thanatos eyed the female with a slight snarl lifting his lip. She was filthy, and so thin every rib stuck out starkly under her limp fur. Old old blood caked a leg she kept against her chest, an ugly, but healing wound marring the fur there.
The Kalosis pack, his pack, ringed him, penning the female in on all sides. Even if she could manage to move, let alone flee, she'd never escape them. And hunger rumbled in all their bellies. This stretch of forest had offered little in the way of food, and the pack had been moving constantly since Krishna's prophecy.
The mighty alpha eyed her again, more fang showing as his snarl grew.
"Shinsa, Bital . . . kill her," he murmured, and sat on his haunches to watch.Athena panicked, but realized there wasn't much she could do. Wasn't anything she could say to keep the fangs from tearing out her throat. She almost went to her belly, but stopped.
Why should she cower before them? She had already slashed her dignity to smithereens fleeing her brother.
No. She'd keep what little of it she had left, and die fighting. Snarling, she faced the females advancing on her, not yet recognizing them or the skull clad who had ordered her death.

Bital witheld a bored sigh, some sense of disgust at the sight before her still present in the curve of her mouth. The travelling had been somewhat faster than the usual pace after her alpha and god had heard Krishna's portentions, and the beta was not one for forests. Trees could house any number of vermin, like the chittering squirrels, most cumbersome birds, and of course the crawling, unwanted insects atop their trunks and branches. Speaking of insects . . .
What was this mudcoated trash? Dried blood, dirt, grime within the wounds . . . a walking skeleton might look livelier than this pained creature. No! No, it was those eyes that tipped her off - that something bubbled with the wolf beyond submission. Bitter green, envious green. familiar green . . . She had the gall to snarl even when surrounded by the pack; while Bital was a proponent now for guts, in this case it was hardly a smart move. All of them hungered.
Green eyes and a snarl . . . Her memory was fuzzy for a moment, taking time to clear. Thanatos murmured his order, and without pity or question Bital began to advance with bared fangs of her own, yet her mind refused to be calmed as she approached. Neither her mind nor her stomach it would seem, but which would win? Though this girl hardly looked the morsel . . .

Faelan had been lying away from the pack, his head down on his paws. He thought he had escaped the shameful rank of Omega when he left his old pack...turns out that he was given the same rank here in the Kalosis pack. Would his life ever change?
He opened one eye as he heard Thanatos's growl. At the sound of his Alpha's hostile voice, Faelan had leapt to his feet, creeping towards the female and snarling. In his old pack he would never have done this, but he was determined to prove to his Alpha that he was worth much more than the shameful rank of Omega. "Shinsa, Bital...kill her." His Alpha had said. He resented the fact that Thanatos did not give him a chance to show his worth and let him kill this female, and even risked a glance up at Thanatos, as if asking him what the next move was.

The female was wretched, rotting with weakness, stinking of sickness. How dare a pitiful thing like this even step on their lands in the first place. She could feel nothing for disdain for such a weak beast, weaker than the prey they hunted and nothing more than a burden to this earth in the first place. Things like her, quite simply, had no place in a world like theirs. Power was valued, it was all that measured a wolf's worth. This thing, it had no worth.
The beta made her first moves forward, the corners of her eyes crinkling with her snarl. She could not honestly say that she would enjoy the killing. Something like this beat would be better left on its own in her mind. Let it rot away and die the weak death it deserved. Such a death as this seemed almost a privilege. However, there was a little thrill down her spine as her alpha called her to attack. His order would be her delight to fulfill, and so the beta approached.
The female seemed to ready herself, and Shinsa felt a slight prickle of respect for the mangy creature, and perhaps almost pity. A creature as this must have had some sort of pride once, even if it only had a shred left to cling to. Regardless, her nightmarish snarl twisted the red, gold-spotted face, and made the green eyes hum with a voracious temper. This thing's death meant a little food for the pack, and another time she would make her alpha proud.

Something, something, something . . . . It clicked, and Krishna's jaw dropped in awe as she gazed at the wolf before them. Her memory provided her with images of an amber furred pup, black slashed over her eyes, tormenting a spotted brother.
A spotted brother Krishna herself had snatched right from under the paws of the mighty Zeus.
The prophet's eyes snapped to her alpha and she saw him c**k his head, eyes narrowing as he took a closer look. She too turned back to the mangy femme, Shinsa and Bital, and even lowly Faelan, stalking closer.
"My lord, wait-"Thanatos rose to his feet in a flash as recognition hit him like a raging bear. The eye shadowed by the stained skull seemed to glow as he advanced. "Stand down!" he snarled, snapping at Faelan as he passed the omega, not giving it another thought. Missing the way the wolf's eyes burned with resentment.
He circled her, nose working, eyes searching her. His memory, much like Krishna's, pieced an image of a young pup together with what his imagination supplied for her adult features.
The realization nearly made him laugh.
"Well, well, well. If it isn't the little queen . . . little Athena," he purred, the visible half of his maw curled into a sinister smile. "The little b***h wanders alone in a forest that currently belongs to, well . . . me," he said softly, but his voice dripped venom and old anger. The leather straps slithered along the ground, shifting softly as he moved, circled her.Athena stiffened, realized who surrounded her. Traitors!! her mind screamed, because that was what they were. Shinsa, Bital, Thanatos, Hypnos . . . turning against their pack, ripping apart her family . . . her true blame lay with them. With Thanatos. The one who instigated a war that killed her worthless brother, a brother that, even dead, stole all her parents' affections.
If none of that had happened . . . how differently would her world have turned out?
The proud femme fought to withhold a snarl as she stared at the ones advancing on her, remembering how Bital used to cower in the presence of Dione, how Shinsa used to lick the paws of her father . . .

Shinsa stopped, body leaning, straining forward as her paws stayed grounded. The beta wanted nothing more than to tear into this little b***h. She wanted to let her anger out of her fangs, and rip something to shreads. How dare that lowly black crone tell her alpha to wait. The beta whirled, snapping at the black shoulder. "Mind your place, crone." Shinsa said with a savage growl. Ever since the old wolf's prophecy, the beta seemed to have taken a rough edge with her. More times than not, the beta would be quick and harsh when she saw it fit to do so. In her mind, the prophecy was little more than a load of dung. More over, if Hypno or any other form of 'sleep' got it into their minds to over throw her alpha, Krishna would be the first to feel her fangs after the threat was taken care of.
The female turned her attention to her alpha, watching as he circled the female. It was then she came to the realization that this mangy creature was, in fact, Athena. That spoiled, mangy little pup that she had helped to raise. Another growl rumbled in the beta's chest, suddenly all the mroe willing to be rid of this little mongrel. Still, the female had sparked the interest of her alpha, and so the beta would wait quietly and patiently, quick to bend to her alpha's will whenever called to.

Athena! The word caused her to let slip and unintentional snarl against the soft, smug purr from her alpha. A shift of movement to her left told her that yet again the annoying little omega was trying to nose his way into business that clearly wasn't his. Snivelling little Faelan, always so desperate to prove his worth - as if he had any to give to Death! To add, the prophet went and ruined the night further with her realization, and like wildfire the memories she had thought were buried came alight. Bital's expression soured.
However . . . Thanatos had not told her to stand down. Shinsa paused, but the other beta did not. It did not matter to her that the pup she had once coddled unwillingly was now a full grown adult before her eyes; to Bital, it was simply more mud to wipe away from the earth. Thus she advanced with bared fangs, intent on ending it with one swift blow. She did not speak because something so filthy was not worthy of even a final word from the striped predator.

The flame coloured Omega growled in frustration and resentment as Alpha-Thanatos snapped at him, telling him to stand down. Why did he have to stand down? Yes, he is the Omega, but it did not necessarily mean that he was useless. However, the pack rules must be followed if he did not want to face the wrath of death. The Alpha's words are absolute.
Inside, however, his mind was whirling. Who was this Athena? Was she a former member of this pack? He was new to the Kalosis pack, and did not know much of its history. He only cared about the fact that it was a strong back, its name feared far and wide, and is related to the prophecy. He raised his head slightly, casting a glance of resentment at the Alpha and the two Betas, eagerly wanting to join in the action but is not allowed to.
((Faelan's new to the pack so he won't know who Athena is XD))

To the side of his brother, Hypnos found himself. His bicolored eyes lazily drooped, floating half-mast while his muzzle hung with a sleepy drawl. His nap had been interrupted by the commandments, and eager to investigate, he hurried to his usual position. Attention only seemed to heighten him further out of his lethargic trance when the name was barked. Athena. Athena...now how was it that the name rung like a bell? What caused him to ponder it for a fleeting moment until his focus refocused on the brother who now had the beta's previous target for elimination trapped. And when the name finally hit a memory, his eyes widened, losing their sleepy appeal and his maw hung slightly in amused shock.
Hypnos said nothing, allowing the scene to play out before him, watching his brother circle the female with ease and an overbearing dominance that would perturb most. No doubt he was eager to see how the burnt female would react. What sort of business did she have here, he wondered. How lucky she had been indeed that Krishna had recognized her, though, even that luck might not amount to much and could easily be turned into a cruel few extra moments of life depending on what Thanatos now planned. A slow smirk spread across his maw.

Baring his fangs on his lieutenants, Thanatos growled low. "Stand down," he repeated slowly, firmly. His tone of voice held no room to disobey. He glanced at his brother, saw the recognition there as well. A smile stretched his maw and he turned back to Athena.
"Your mother is strong. Zeus dead, and she still managed to keep you alive. Your brother as well, I imagine. The one we didn't kill," he added as an afterthought, watching her stiffen. Still, he circled her, his mind working.
"Why are you here, and not with them now?"
Athena stiffened, watching him out of the corners of her eyes whenever he circled behind her, always watching. She would not be caught unawares, and her ears listened for the others, aware of them as well. Bital and Shinsa were no longer a threat in her mind. It seemed Thanatos ruled them, and they listened to him.
"What do I get for telling you, traitor?" she growled, the word slipping out before she could stop herself. She heard a growl from in front of her, but Thanatos was still behind her, and she dared not lose track of him.

The red fem rolled her eyes at Bital. She, of all, should have had more sense. Shinsa gave a gruff bark, half a laugh but too tinged with growl to tell. Getting so worked up was unbecoming. They were Death's lieutenants, and more was expected of them. It was no lie that she herself would have loved to rip Athena into bloody shreds, but it was also against her alpha, and one weighed heavily over the other.
With a an almost sweet manner she paced, circling counter to her alpha, more distant as her path would lead her just beside him when they crossed. She listened, brimming with anticipation and delight, but quickly turned sour. How dare that little wretch speak to him in such a manner! Her lips curled with a growl. "Watch your tongue little whore." The warning hung heavy as she circled. It seemed very much like the little pup thought far too little of her, and suddenly the fae's mind tingled with little thoughts. What she would do wither alpha's back turned, or better yet, his command. It would come soon enough, it had to. Bital would have to wait her turn when the time came..

Bital flinched slightly under the weight of the alpha's command, bitterness rising to her mouth as she vented her silent fury upon the bloody little wretch before them. Bital wasn't one for bloodlust truly, but by the gods the very idea of seeing the damn pup grow up and come crawling back to them . . . But dutifully the beta stepped back as was told, doing her best to ignore Shinsa's silent reproval; she would not give her any reason to further pry at her. "You might stay alive," Bital rasped in a low voice to Athena, pale yellow eyes narrowed in restraint. "Or we'll eat you quickly in mercy, whelp. We hunger and were on the hunt, coincidentally, when you appeared." For added effect, she licked her lips, a humorless smirk on her features.

Athena curled her lips in repugnance, baring fang. "Eat me? I'm nothing but skin and bones. Have your pick if you're that pathetically hungry, paw licker," the haggard female growled, ears flat, fur raised. "But know this; I will fight you, betrayer." Her gaze swept over the wolves, resting on Shinsa with a murderous glint. But she only smiled at the crimson femme, and turned back to Thanatos.
The alpha snarled as the word hissed from the female's maw, his hackles raised. He glanced at Shinsa at her outburst, then turned his eyes to Bital as she addressed Athena. Both of his lieutenants had murder in their eyes, but they listened to his command, as he knew they would. Cocking his head, he watched Athena. She was a wolf ready to die, so using her life as a reward for her information would be a wasted effort. Or was that resolute look in her eyes only a cover? He remembered back to her puphood, and how she always sought command over her brothers. She lusted for power and leadership. Dominance pumped through her veins as sure as her blood did.
He grinned.
"Dear Athena . . . " He stopped circling her, moved closer. Lightly brushed his shoulder against hers as he moved to stand before her, his tail running along her back. He turned and stood before her, ears pricked forward, a smile on his lips. His skull-clad muzzle loomed close to hers and he watched her eyes widen. "Join us," Death whispered, voice so low only she could hear, "and you will have the power you desire . . . "

Unlike his brother's lieutenants, the large male had kep his maw shut, his attention simply lingering on the scene and observing without springing to harsh remarks or snide comments despite his personal opinion. He remembered just as much as Thanatos and thus understood his alpha's reaction to the female quite literally. He even sympathized with Bital and Shinsa. But his opinion here didn't matter; this was Thanato's decision of what to do with the female and he would respect and honor whatever decision the leather draped male would proclaim.
Within a moment he had heard Thanato's answer. Blinking, he turned a strange expression onto his brother, glancing to the rusty female only briefly before returning his gaze, "Join us?" The voice was hardly audible, little more than a whisper. With no protest coming to mind, he simply stared, closing his maw once more as to accept the decision his brother had made...that was, if Athena would accept. It was a generous gift, after all. Or maybe a death trap. Whatever the reason, Hypnos wouldn't deny he was curious as to how this would all play out.

Bital was wrapped in her own thoughts, murderous intent still flickering in her pale eyes. It was bad enough to know that the godsdamned girl had lived to see adulthood and still had the gall to call her a betrayer. Yet here Athena was, away from her pack, denied by her own family! What could such a disgusting, bloodthirsty little princess have done to deserve a pitiful fate like that? The beta's non-smirk turned back into a lackluster frown, though her ears remained bent with suspicion as she watched Thanatos approach the whelp with a grin. Was he offering her a deal as both she and Shinsa had been? What were the consequences and benefits?
Bital snarled inwardly at the thought of being forced to work with her. Of course she would do as her alpha wished regardless, but it would not be without rancor. She shifted restlessly, wanting to get back to the hunt as soon as possible.
