I heard about this religion from a couple of friends of mine, who supposedly converted to it from "mainline Christianity". They also had given me some videos to watch for information about the religion. The guy who made the movies is named Michael Rood. He says he is a Pharisee who converted to Judaism and he believes Christ is the Messiah.
This whole religion calls themselves Jews, I think, but they call Jesus the Messiah. I will have to do more research into this religion to find out for sure. Now with my limited knowlegde of Judaism, I know they only accept Jesus as being a great Rabbi and not the Saviour. And I thought that Pharisees were Jewish, so how can Rood convert from being a Pharisee to being a Jew? Is this even a true religion? Do they have any relation to Judaism itself?

Messianic's are ethnically Jews. They were either born in Israel or their mothers are Jewish. However their religious beliefs are that of a Christian.

Kind of how fluffy eclectic neo-pagans are to Wicca.

That's what they sounded like to me, when I watched the movies that Michael Rood had done.

I dislike these guys so much.
No, you can not be a Messianic Jew. You're either a Jew or you are not. When a Jew leaves Judaism for Christianity he may be an ethnic Jew but he loses his right to call himself Jewish.
Messianic Judaism was started by Evangelical Christians to convert Jews to Christianity.
They are HUGE sinners. It is an absolute abomination to take a Jew away from HaShem.

I thought they were full of BS because I've always heard that the Jews were a group of people, not just a religion that can be converted to. Or can you convert to Judaism? I've never been too sure.

You can convert to Judaism but it isn't necessary. Unlike Christianity, Judaism doesn't teach that you need to be Jewish in order to be on good terms with G-d.

So, one thing I've been pondering is this Michael Rood called himself a Pharisee, but he converted to Judasim from being that way. Weren't Pharisees Jewish to begin with?

The word Pharisees (lat. pharisæ|us, -i) comes from the Hebrew פרושים perushim from פרוש parush, meaning "separated" [1]. The Pharisees were, depending on the time, a political party, a social movement, and a school of thought among Jews that flourished during the Second Temple Era (536 BCE–70 CE). After the destruction of the Second Temple, the Pharisaic sect was re-established as Rabbinic Judaism — which ultimately produced normative, traditional Judaism, the basis for all contemporary forms of Judaism, with the exception of the Karaites. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PhariseesThe Pharisees are the reason that the Essenes existed. They saw the corruption of the Pharisees so they broke off and made their own sect of Judaism and wrote the Dead Sea Scrolls.

I was under the impression that they were some sort of religious leaders and not political. sweatdrop
