Hello fellow THOD roleplayers! This guide is here to help you on all levels possible!
- - -
The Basics.
In roleplaying, you typically type in THIRD PERSON. In real life we speak in FIRST PERSON.
Third person (right): -Lillian walked past the store, eyeing the fresh fruit inside. Her stomach rumbled its complaint. -Bob found the puppy and looked at it with raised brows, wondering how it had gotten out the door.
First person (wrong): -I walked past the store, my stomach rumbled as I passed the food. -I had to have the puppy in the window! I loved it!
- - -
Grammar.
Now we move on to common grammar: what to keep in mind as you post, and what is most commonly done wrong.
The use of ‘your’ and ‘you’re’. You’re: is a combination of YOU and ARE, example: You’re the one I want. Your: is a possessive form of YOU, example: Is that your bread?
The use of 'They’re', 'Their', and 'There'.
They’re is a combination of THEY and ARE, example: They’re heading to the grocery store. Their is the possessive form of THEY, example: That is their cat. There: is typically a place or item: There were papers everywhere. Or, I’ve been there several times.
- - -
Things to remember: -No *stars* for actions, unless it is said fine to use. Chances are you can write without stars if you use them- give it a try!
Examaple: *He moves to the door* “No wait, don’t go yet.” *places a hand on your shoulder* Easy fix: David moves to the door, “no wait, don’t go yet.” His voice was pleading as he looked down at her, placing a hand on her shoulder in reassurance.
Remmeber the use of periods, commas, and semicolons. -Commas can make all the difference in your writing! Example: Sally didn’t want to go but her mother was stubborn so there she was walking through the snow.
Fixed (note how it flows) Sally didn’t want to go, but her mother was stubborn, so there she was walking through the snow.
LET ME KNOW IF YOU NEED TO KNOW ANYTHING ELSE! For now this is a basic guide!

Now the interesting stuff! Spicing up your writing! This furthers roleplaying, and gives fellow roleplayers a better idea of a situation. You aren’t just writing for yourself- you are writing for others to give an interesting reply! Don't you want something interesting to read?
- - -
Simple Sentences Fix:
- - - Boring example: Ken walked, bored with how things were going. He continued walking.
Fix it:
Ken walked where? Ken walked forward to class,
Bored with what? Bored with the empty hallways.
How what things? Usually kids were all over wanting to talk to him.
Continued walking where? He sighed and tilted his head back, hands in his pockets as he made his way back to class.
Now all fixed up: Ken walked forward to class, bored with the empty hallways; usually kids were all over wanting to talk to him. He sighed and tilted his head back, hands in his pockets as he made his way back to class.
- - -
All you have to do is think of details! Imagine your character walking- bring him or her to life! You are creating a story and life with your words!
- - -
Example: "Looking for a teacher." Haru said as he hopped onto another step.
Fixed: “Looking for a teacher.” Haru said casually, as if getting a teacher wasn’t really important. Of course, in all actuality if he didn’t get a teacher… things would defiantly take a turn for the worst. He hopped onto another step, a slightly worried expression showing only for a second as he pushed the negative thoughts away and looked back to his companion.
(Here: show your characters thoughts, actions, and describe the way something is said or done. It makes all the difference. )
If I have made any errors- TELL ME! I know it's not perfect and I expect errors, don't be afraid to tell me what's wrong. It benefits everyone.

Many, many roleplays require a good 3 sentences, or at least no one-liners! Though sometimes one-liners have to happen, they are not hard to avoid. This post is here to tell you how-to! (Also thanks to CaptainKillbot for the idea!)
The Keys to Make a Lengthy Post;
Background: Every character has a background, and before you even turn in that profile, you should have thought about the character and put him or her together in your head.
Now is the time to elaborate on that!
So: add history to your characters post! Everyone has a past, whether it is a flashback or important details. It is helpful to others as well; they can see why your character is the way he/she is, and helps so that we don’t assume your character lived a life of flowers and happy butterflies.
Ex.: Austin glanced at the pink rose and sighed sadly.
Why sadly? Are we to assume he is randomly saddened by a beautiful flower? Nope!
Fix: Austin glanced at the pink rose, which so much reminded him of Sally, the love of his life. He had often left such flowers at her doorstep, just to make her smile whenever possible. But now he no longer had her, and he sighed sadly as the memories of the woman passed through his thoughts once again.
See how much can be added just by some history and details?
---
Details: Detail your character- little movements or sayings that makes them, them!
Ex.: Jane walked home after a day of exploring.
Now we add detail and characteristics! Let’s say Jane is a laid back, anti-social, not-so-confident teenage girl.
Fix: Jane shoved her hands into her coat pockets, shoulders hunching in the crowd of strangers. She was heading home from a day of exploring, and loved such times she had to herself. Keeping her head bent low she watched the sidewalk cracks pass by, brows furrowed in frustration. If only her home wasn’t in the middle of the city!
Yes, it takes time for detail and backgrounds to be second nature writing, but as you practice doing it soon it will be one of the most enjoyable things to create a unique and complex character! Not to mention how others will admire your effort. :3

If you don't mind may I make a suggestion?
O just want to add that Roleplaying isn't so much about your typeing style but about the role you are playing. It isn't enough to just type correctly you have to be able to paint a picture of what is going on, and one more thing you are playing a role so you need to make it believable.

Yes that's a very good point :3 That's what I mean by being descriptive ^^ I figure its just good to show the grammar stuff for beginners and whoever is curious. I'll probably add more about how to add details to writing later on.

Also we should all remember that our post need to have emotion to them other wise we are just writing words. Those that are new or not very good at roleplaying should be aware that they need to give thier character life and feeling.
I always figured that while you post you give your character a little history on his or her background. So if your character is a skilled swordsmen you post a flash back of your character learning and accomplishing tasks along those lines. Much like writing a research paper you give evidence; in the same sense you give evidence to your characters prophetic skills.
Which would be a sense of emotion, because anyone can get upset and take a dump. But it takes a real roleplayer to show reason for their feelings.

Some times we speak in third person for no other reason then to speak with ourselves.
