I'm not a huge fan of the bamboo personally. If i were you, i'd take a look at refurbished tablets on the Wacom site. They're MUCH cheaper.
I have had my intuos3 for about 5 years. You can get replacement parts for the pen and tablet itself (which is what i just did earlier this month) and it's most definitely gone down in price. I'd look at the Intuos 3 over the Intuos 4 specifically for 2 reasons
look at the prices, especially refurbished ones.
I prefer the screen on the intuos 3. It's not rough like the Inutos4 or bamboo, making it much easier to draw on.
