The legend of Zelda Minish Cap, as noted above, is the story i'm writing.
This is the start of the project.
As you may notice, (if you own this game) this is not EXACTLY like the game. Adding dialogue for Link is part of the story, as it would be too awkward if he were silent ._____. so, i tried to hit on the quirky, playful, yet serious nature of Link. Also, some dialogue has been changed slightly, as the japanese-english translation was HORRIBLE D= (sample "I have been in wait for this day for many days"... uhhhh... < . <;? my changed version "Oh, how I've waited for this moment" (evil laugh >:{D>)

So anyway, i will try to work on a new chapter, (1k-1.5k words for each chapter) each week. It shouldn't take more than one week for a chapter, as i work on them each day =J
Watch out for some things that i may have missed, and post them in the "WHAT'S YOUR PROBLEM YOU MISSED THIS!" forum
Thanks for all your help, and for all my fans (so far 1 [>=D THANKS ALYSSA]) and i hope you continue reading

So whether you're a hardcore fan, and memorize every detail of everything (which wouldn't be in the least bit creepy), or just trying out the series for the first time, there's something new to learn =D

Especially because Link doesn't usually talk... So that was a fun time coming up with dialogue =J

Here is the first chapter, so enjoy =3

Long, long ago, evil spirits descended on the land of Hyrule.

Just when it seemed that the world was to be cast in to the darkest of shadows, the tiny Picori appeared from the skies.

They bestowed on a courageous human, a shining golden light and a single sword.

This bravest of men used his wisdom, courage, and gifts given by the Picori, to fight the demons and restore peace to the world.

The people were so grateful for the Picori's help, they held an annual celebration in their honor.

The tradition of the Picori Festival continued, but over the generations, the Picori themselves passed on into legend.

This tells of the Picori emerging from a mystic doorway that opens just once every hundred years.

When the door is open, the Picori can cross from their world into Hyrule.

This year is that of one hundred years later, and the festival is unusually grand.

Hyrule Castle is hosting a tournament of sword-fighting skill, recalling the great battles of legend.

Trouble brews within the festival grounds, and an unmeasurable evil is about to be unleashed.

A long, long time ago
When the world was on the verge of being swallowed by shadow
The tiny Picori appeared from the sky, bringing the hero of men a sword and a golden light
With wisdom and courage, the hero drove out the darkness
When peace had been restored, the people enshrined the blade, not konwing the troubles to come

Princess Zelda skipped happily down the road towards a small house on a hill. Today was the annual Picori festival, the 100th anniversary to be exact. She poked her head through the door entering a blacksmith's building.

"Oh, good morning, Master Smith." He was busy hammering away, he almost didn't notice. The smooth pink dress caught his eye, and he wiped his brow.

"Goodness me! Princess Zelda! Did you sneak out of the castle and come all this way alone?"
Her face began to blush as she stared down at the floor.

"The minister is sure to be worried about you! You know how he gets." He remarked setting down his tools.

"Oh don't worry, he'll be fine. I came here looking for Link; do you know where he is?" Zelda scanned the room to no avail. "The whole town is already bustling for the annual Picori Festival, and I don't want him to miss out. I thought he and I might go together, would you mind?"

"Oh is that all you're here for? Well, Link was up late last night helping me, and he's most likely still asleep..." He seemed concerned, but the look in Zelda's eyes proved there was nothing to worry about. "Well, I do have an errand for him at the castle, I guess that will be alright." He knocked on the door behind him, and called for Link to get up.
Link still lay in bed, but the knocking woke him from his dream. He sat up and rubbed his eyes.

"Morning already?" He climbed out of bed and stepped out the door, to see Princess Zelda standing there.
Their eyes met, and they both giggled.

"Alright Link, the Princess is here to join you at the festival." Zelda chipped in, "Yeah Link, let's go check it out together!"
Link yawned, still trying to stay awake, "I'd be happy to go with you."

"Great," she added, "Because I already have permission to take you."
Link looked over at Master Smith with a questioned look. Smith sighed heavily in submission. "Well, it only happens once a year, so go on and have fun. While you're there, you can do me a favor."

Link put his hands up behind his head. "I knew there was some catch."
Smith headed back over to his anvil and grabbed his latest creation. "This sword MUST be delivered to the minister at Hyrule Castle."
Link grabbed it, and hooked it around his waist. Standing at attention, he saluted Zelda and said in his best soldier's voice. "I will make sure to get this to the minister." They both laughed, but got a stern look from Master Smith.

"Make sure you don't lose this extremely important delivery. It's the blade that will be presented to the winner of the competition, so keep it safe. Zelda the same; you two may be childhood friends, but she is still the Princess. I trust you to watch over her."

"Master Smith, quit worrying! We'll be perfectly safe, it's a celebration, nothing is going to happen." said Zelda a bit irritated. "Come on Link, let's go ahead and check out the festival!"

Link was just about to go, when he stopped him. "Here is some spending money, just for the occasion." Link was handed twenty rupees.

"Wow, but you didn't need to spend that much on me."

"Take it, and have some fun. You're still young, enjoy it while it lasts."
Link nodded and followed Zelda outside.

"That boy is worth more trouble than anything else, yet you can’t help but love him. Almost makes me miss being young." He promptly went back to work, leaving the two to head off to the fair. Yet, a dark evil lurked among the joy and liveliness of the festival, one that would change both of their lives forever.

I had worked on this last week, so here's chapter 2 already b^ ^d

The two headed off to the fair talking as they went on
They discussed each others plans for the day
They had been friends since early childhood
They shared everything together, even destiny

“Hurry up Link; I don’t want to be late!” Zelda was now extremely excited and jumped with joy as she ran ahead of him. She stopped up ahead at the castle gates. “Here we are, the town of Hyrule. They’ve done a wonderful job setting everything up.

“Wow, this places sure looks different.” Link stared around at the different decorations strewn about. Not one sign, door, or plant was without cheer.

“Here we are, doesn’t it look fun? Come on, I want to look around some!” She headed off in the direction of the nearest shop. A man was waiting near the entrance.

“Welcome to our annual Picori Festival! In fact, they say that every hundred years, they return to Hyrule. This just happens to be the 100th year since the Picori were last here. Maybe you'll get lucky and see some.” He smiled and stepped aside as Link walked in to an open courtyard filled with activities. Many different games, and story tellers were here. He saw Zelda sitting over next to one of the story tellers, and joined her.

“Long, long ago, and then even longer before that; Evil creatures appeared in the world of humans. They were very powerful, frightening beasts, and they created a mess of trouble. But then the Picori came from the sky, bringing humans powerful magic. With the magic light force and his Picori Blade, the beasts were repelled. The world of the humans once more knew peace, thanks to the Picori.” He coughed a bit, then resumed. “So as not to forget our gratitude, we hold this festival each year. Now remember little ones, the Picori only appear before good little children. If you always act bad, you will never be able to see them, so be good!”

Zelda stood up and walked with Link through the rest of the yard. “So the Picori ARE real! My father always tells me they are.” They walked by a small game held by a local Hyrulian. “Oh look at that! I’ll be right back Link!” He stood back, and overheard some people talking.

“Weren’t there supposed to be some great fighters in this year’s sword-fighting tournament?”

“Yes but one in particular really dominated.” Link turned his head to hear them better. “It was some new attendee; he pulled off some really interesting moves out there.”

“I just wish I had a chance to win so I could touch the legendary sword.”

All of a sudden Zelda let out a loud cry, and grabbed Link's arm. “I won! I won! I can’t believe I won the contest!” The person running the drawing had to settle her down first.

“Oh, Princess you won our grand prize? That means you get your choice of any of these wonderful prizes, what will you choose?” He set out a large stone shaped like a heart, a beautiful gem that sparkled just looking at it, and a small metal shield. A look of confusion came across Zelda’s face as she tried to choose what her prize would be.

“Let me guess, the jewel? But this heart stone is cute also!” The owner was becoming impatient. She had finally made up her mind, and chose the shield instead. “Are you sure you don’t want this magnificent gem instead? Why would you pick that?” The shop owner just shook her head and continued packing up the other prizes. “You sure are one strange girl.”

Zelda handed the shield to Link. “There, now you can protect me.” She giggled, and stepped back. “You look just as good as I thought you would.” A large bell rung above their heads.

“Oh that’s right, I almost forgot what Master Smith wanted me to…” Link looked deep in thought, as Zelda grabbed him by the hand. “Come on, you don’t want to be late do you?” They hurried off to the castle, where the prime minister was waiting for them. He looked up from his paperwork, and waved them over. “I see you have the sword do you? Then as minister of the kingdom of Hyrule, I, Potho, accept this blade. You came just in time, the award ceremony is just about to begin. Why don’t you two join us for it, hmmm?

Just as they moved off to the side, a group of guards carried out a large chest from within the castle, with a sword entombed in it. Link stared as they used all of their might to drag it out, letting it down with a loud thud. The minister eyed Link carefully.

“You do know about that sword don’t you, hmmm? It is called the Picori Blade, and it locks much evil away in that chest. The blade is sacred among the people of Hyrule. The legend has it; long ago, the Picori gave us this blade. Whoever wins the competition earns the honor of touching the handle.”

Link continued to stare at the feint glow of light the sword gave off, until the King of Hyrule emerged from the palace walls. He eyed all of the soldiers, keeping them in place, and stepped out in front of the sword.

“Let the award ceremony commence! Vaati, champion of the competition, you may approach the blade!”

In walked a boy looking not too much older than Link, with dark clothes. His mere presence made Link extremely uncomfortable. With his seemingly young age, its surprising how he managed to win the tournament. He approached the sword cautiously, and then stopped a few feet before. He began to chuckle. “I can’t believe things went this well. The Picori Blade and the Bound Chest spoken of in Hylian lore, now within my fingertips! This chest must hold what I seek!" Vaati showed a dry smirk. "I’ll relieve you of its contents now.”

The guards jumped to attention, charging at him with their lances. He easily grabbed the spears and threw the guards clear across the courtyard.

“Do not interfere with me! You know not the power contained inside that chest.” With that, the other guards stood protectively in front of the chest. The king retreated into the castle shutting the door behind him.

“We’re locked out!” Exclaimed Link as he tried to find some ulterior entrance.

“As victor, I have earned the right to approach the Picori Blade, but I do not intend to stop there. Oh how I’ve waited for this moment!” With a quick wave of his hand, he pushed aside the two guards from afar. With another wave, a small ball of dark energy erupted from within the sword, reducing it to mere shards. The seal was broken, and pure evil began to pour out from the chest. The clouds overhead began to darken as monsters flooded the skies. Zelda ran out in front of the chest to stop him.

“Who are you, and why are you doing this!?” He took a step closer towards, her chuckling all the while.

“The princess who holds the power of light. That mysterious power is said to flow in the veins of every royal lady in your family. Ever since that day when it was gifted to your people, it has been passed down.” He shrugged his shoulders. “Hmph, if I leave you now, you’ll only cause me trouble later." His eyes sharpened as they struck the princess'. "That will never do.”

“Zelda, watch out!” Link jumped in between the two, and pulled out his shield. “You’ll never get away wi-“

“Out of my way boy.” Vaati commanded, and pushed him away with little effort. “Enough of this! To stone with you princess!"

“No!!” But her cries were of no effort. A shadowy aura surrounded the princess, slowly transforming her entire body into a solid rock. Link was thrown against a wall, and fell unconscious. He watched the Princess turn to him as his eyes faded from the light, helpless as he too fell victim to Vaati.

He saw his victory, and let out a frightening laugh. “All who dare to stand in my way shall share this fate." He paced closer towards the chest. "Now to grasp the power that I've searched for, for far too long!” He
stepped over, and peered inside, finding it empty. “What!? Empty!? There was nothing in there but those monsters? What is the meaning of this? If not here, the force I’m after is somewhere out there. I’m in no hurry, their pathetic town is doomed either way.

And with his words, he disappeared as quickly as he had arrived. With Link unconscious, the guards carried him off to a room where he rested. Everyone was gathered in the main throne room, waiting for a course of action. The princess had just been turned to stone, and they sought guidance from the king. But the strongest bonds are of friendships, not of family. A young boy’s strength is soon to be tested, in the search for the Princess.

This is chapter 3, I AM NOW COMPLETELY FINISHED!! =J

With the princess in dire need of a savior
A hero shall rise from among the people
But not alone shall his adventure progress
With a strange aid, he shall thwart the evil force

“Oh, thank goodness you’re awake! Master Smith is here also, he’s here to see His Majesty.” The maid looked over as Link sat up and rubbed his eyes. Flashbacks flooded his mind.

“Zelda, is she-“ The maid nodded, answering his question. She stepped outside, waiting for Link to join her. When he did, the entire Hyrule guard was stationed in the walkway, awaiting orders from the King. Master Smith grabbed him, and pulled him close to him. Next to the throne, stood the Princess

“Oh Link, you’re awake.” Master Smith whispered to him. “Stand at my side for now, the King is about to speak.” Link watched as the King stepped down and announced in a voice filled with sorrow.

“It is as you have all heard. A man named Vaati has cursed my fair Zelda, and has turned her to stone. If we had the sacred Picori Blade, we could have easily broken the curse, but it was shattered by Vaati. However, we must not give up hope. We must speak with the Picori.”

“The Picori?” Link said out loud. “I thought they were just a legend. Aren’t they those thumb-sized little imps from fairy tales?”

“The very same.” Responded the King. “But the Picori are no mere legend, the do in fact exist. It has been made sure that no one out of the royal family knows the truth about them. The Picori, who forged the sacred blade, live deep within the Minish Woods. If they are taken the sword, they should be able to repair it.”

The minister became excited. “Then we shall dispatch every soldier we have there at once!”

The King turned to him. “Soldiers will not do. The Picori do not show themselves to anyone but children. The soldiers could search for days, finding no trace of them.”

One of the soldiers looked over towards Link. “Why not just send him then?”

“Me?!” Link looked surprised that he was asked to save Zelda once again. “I- I would be glad to, but I don’t see how!”

“Indeed it will be a dangerous journey now that the monsters have been freed. To aid you, please take this sword with you. Since this is Smith’s sword, you should be familiar with it, no?”

The guards stood at attention. “If we cannot search for the Picori, let us hunt down Vaati. It is the least we could do for the Princess.” They all saluted in unison, and waited for approval.

“Well said soldiers, I shall dispatch you immediately.” With that, they went on their way in search of Vaati. “Link, in the heart of the Minish Woods, you will come across a place called Deepwood Shrine. It was once the gathering place of Picori and humans alike. That would be your best starting place.” He returned to his throne with a worried look on his face.

“All of Hyrule is counting on you Link. Only you can break Vaati’s curse and free my daughter.”
Link stepped outside the castle gates, and squinted. The sun was much brighter than when it shone through the stained glass. He set off in the direction of the Minish Woods. Off in the distance, a small octoroc was rustling around a bush for some food.

"Is that the kind of monsters that stand between me and the woods? Piece of cake." He charged at the foe, but it turned towards him, and spit out a small rock from its mouth. It only knocked him back a step, but in that time it was able to reach down to the ground and put another rock in its mouth.

Quickly when it attacked again, he put up his shield and deflected it. He immediately ran up, and ran it through with his sword. After passing by a construction crew, he ended up near the Lon Lon Ranch.

"Just a little further." he said wiping his forehead. The scene from earlier that day continued to replay in his mind. "If only i had been stronger..." His anger for Vaati steadily grew until he reached the entrance to the Minish Woods. The woods themselves weren't all that large, but within it contained a multitude of Picori. Finding them was the difficult part.Link wandered around the area slowly walking, trying to look for anything that resembled a shrine.

His search was interrupted by a faint scream. “Help! Help me! Won’t someone please stop them!? Help… somebody! Can’t anyone hear me!?” Link came upon a small clearing where a couple of octorocs were standing around a hat lying on the ground. It was a greed cap, with a birds beak and eyes on the top. When Link went near it to pick it up, it turned to him, and began to talk.

“Hey kid! You there! Don’t just stand there, do something!” The octorocs continued to spit rocks out at him. Link leaned up against the wall near him and smiled.

“What’s wrong with you!? Do you like watching me take this abuse? Help me out here!” Link stood back up, holding his blade over his shoulder. I guess, if you REALLY need my help.” He quickly finished off the two monsters, using the technique he had thought of earlier. He began to walk off when the hat stopped him.

“Wait, come back! What is a lone child like you doing so deep in the woods?” Link stopped, and took a few steps back. “Truthfully, I’m here in search of the Picori.” The hat’s eye sparked with interest. “Ho ho! I see. But, what for?” Link holstered his sword. “A sorcerer Vaati has turned the Princess to stone…”

“Vaati’s cursed someone? I see; you know, you and I have quite a lot in common. I am also in search of Vaati in hopes of breaking his curse. But the only way to do that is through the Sacred Blade.” Link’s eyes stared straight down. “You’re too late, he’s shattered it. I was on my way to have it reforged.” The hat stared straight up at him. “Well, it looks like we’re partners then. My name is Ezlo, so remember it well.” Link began to walk off. “Alright, let’s get going, we don’t have all day.”

“Wait! Go slower! As you can see, I have no legs.” Ezlo started using his beak to drag his body towards Link. “This is going nowhere…” He immediately jumped up on Link’s head. “There! Now you can’t possibly leave me behind. Mmm… it’s quite comfortable up here. And less dragging for me! Deepwood Shrine is not far off, so says my superior sense of direction.”

Link sighed a deep breath. “Things can never go the easy way can they?” As they set out for their grand adventure, the mysteries of the Picori were soon to unfold. The world is soon to be seen in a new light, as he ventures into the world of the Minish. But dangers lie in unseen places as proportion becomes a factor with every step he takes.

Chapter 4 comin at ya

With a strange partnership, the search begins
Allies and foes alike lie around every corner
Link strides on in search of the Picori's aid
Guided only by a magical cap; The Minish Cap

"Phew, this is a longer walk than you said it would be." Link pulled Elzo from the top of his head. "Just how far is this place anyway?" He sat down on a stump for a quick rest.

"Eh?" Elzo eyed the stump curiously. "Hold on for a moment, do you know what that is?" Link shrugged his shoulders, then received a quick peck to the forehead. "And I guess that you have no clue what Minish is, do you?" Once more, Link shook his head no. "The world of the Minish is far too small for you to meet the Picori as of now. You humans call them 'Picori', but the prefer to call themselves 'Minish'. Ever wonder why it's called Minish Woods?"

"Oh, that's the reason? I figured it was just given a name," Link said leaning back against a shrub. "I never knew that the Minish lived here."

Elzo rolled his eyes. "Humans. Anyhow, they have built a small village here deep within the forest, where most live now. But, in order to get there, you need to be a touch smaller. At first glance that appears to be just a normal stump eh?"

"Kinda. What, you're telling me it isn't?" He quickly jumped up from his seat.

"Dont' worry it's not going to harm you. In fact, that is a portal to the world of the Minish used long ago by people to adjust their size. With my help, you can shrink down to the size of the Minish. All you need to do is jump up on the stump, and I'll handle the rest."

Link slowly stepped up on the stump. When both feet were planted, Hylian symbols appeared on the base of the stump. They glowed a bright blue, and faded in and out. Out of nowhere, they shrunk down to the size of a deku nut. "AAAAAAHHHH!!!!" Link screamed as he fell down through a small crack in the stump. He bounced down a network of mushroom caps, eventually landing on the ground.

"Welcome to the world from a Minish perspective." Ezlo was used to this, but not to Link. "Aren't you glad you saved me? Find time to thank me later though, we have a job to do." Link started walking, still extremely cautious. He came to a section of large grass, and found it troublesome to walk through.

"Being Minish isn't all that easy is it? It's full of dangers that you wouldn't normally see in your normal form. Mere puddles appear as bottomless lakes to the Minish. And since we're a team, if anything happens to you, I go down as well. So proceed with caution, if not for you, for me!"

Link thumped Elzo in the back of the head. "You sure like to talk don't you?" "I'm just making sure you keep us both safe. Look, there's a log. When you're Minish, you can walk under or through things that were too small for you earlier." Ignoring his constant tips, Link continued.

Up ahead, a pathway lined with acorns could be seen. Link quickly walked down it, trying to get used to the size difference. The grass was expertly woven into archways over head. Flowers were planted all around, lightening the mood of the path. When they arrived the Minish peeked out from different corners of their homes.

Elzo looked around, and they quickly hid themselves. "This is definitely the Minish Village." They came back out, and one announced something to the others.

"Pico, picori!" They soon gathered around the two. Another Minish chimed in. "Ripi, ripico picori!" Soon, they were all speaking. "Picoco pico ripico!" With that, they were gone as soon as they had arrived.

Link was just as confused as they Minish. "What just happened? Were they welcoming us or what?"

"I take it it's been quite a while since they've seen a human." Ezlo was in shock. "I'm surprised they came out at all."

Ezlo saw Link's puzzled expressions, and explained. "That was the ancient language of the Minish. Back when humans were here, it was a common practice. It is close to the dialect that I speak, but most of what they said, slipped by me also."

"If humans were here at one time, there should be someone here who picked up our language then!" Link began to look around the village for someone who he could speak with. With each person he came to, the further his hopes sank.

"Pico riki polo ti po!" No.
"Pico, picori!" Negative.
"Picorori pici to!" Definitely Minish.
"Pico ricopi picoco copi!" Nothing.

He was about to turn around, when he walked past a robed Minish that called him aside. "Hm, I've never seen an outfit like that before, are you a human?" Link sighed a breath of relief.
"It's been some time since any humans have come here. My name is Festari, I am in charge of the abbey, as well as the shrine to the north."

Festari stood in front of a large, from a Minish point of view, diamond-shape building. "You seem to be having some trouble with our language, don't you? If you eat a Jabber Nut, you should be able to not only speak Minish, but understand it as well!" He wore a large headdress, and a bright red robe. He was obviously important in the community.

"In a storehouse to the south, there should be a few left. Feel free to take one."

An abandoned barrel now served as a storage facility. A small ladder led down to the inside, which was filled with plants and moss. In the far corner, a plant grew out of a brown nut. "This has got to be the Jabber Nut." Link said picking it up and eying it carefully, he put it in his mouth. "Eh, it's kind of hard to chew..." Link eventually downed the nut and saw a Minish walk in through a doorway carved out of the barrel.

He eyed Link carefully, and then leaned up against the doorway. "Human right?" Link nodded his head, and the Minish was surprised to see a response. "So, you've had a Jabber nut now have you? The elder said that humans weren't able to see us... but I guess there's an exception for everything." And with that, he was on his way to another part of the village.

As he walked back to the abbey, the usual chatter of "Picori pico!" was replaced with audible words. A few stopped to talk with him. The minister saw him come in, and welcomed him back. "So can you understand we Minish now?" Link nodded, and he switched dialects. "This is much easier. My human language has become a bit rusty."

Link relaxed a bit. "The real reason why we're here is for your help. The sword given to the humans a century ago, has been shattered. The only way to save Hyrule, and Minish Woods, is to reforge it." Link brought out the sword to show him, but he looked confused.

"I don't know much about swords, but the Elder will speak to you." So they were off to search for the elder, but an unseen danger lie ahead, filled with puzzling traps, monsters, and other danger. While Link had gone through things of this caliber before, now he must take them on at the size of a blade of grass. None-the-less, he was filled with a fiery passion to reverse the spell put on Zelda, and renew the kingdom to it's proper state.

Chapter 5 with a side of fries, XL

Traversing through the world of the Minish
Peeling back a sea of grass
Climbing through forests of gravel
Now Link must view his terrain in a new perspective

"If we have to keep running back and forth like this, we'll get nothing done." Link headed off in the direction the prime minister had marked. "I hope the elder can send us on a more direct route."

Ezlo closed his eyes and shook his head. "Complaining gets you nowhere, walking does that. If we keep going, we should get that sword taken care of in no time. Look, we're already there!" They came upon a large hut surrounded by mushroom caps, and stepped inside.

The elder looked up from his seat, and raised an eyebrow at the two. Link bowed, and Elzo almost slipped off his head. "Sorry about that." He whispered. The elder looked at him curiously.

"So, you speak our language? It's been quite a while since we've heard an outsider speak our tongue, let alone enter our village. We have little to offer you in these woods, but what you find I'm sure will suit your needs."

"Thank you for your offer, but we have no time to relax. My name is Elzo," His beak pointed down. "and this is Link. We have come to break a curse that has been cast on the princess of Hyrule." Link pulled the broken sword from it’s sheathe. "To do so, we need to reforge this." He handed the blade to the elder, who inspected it closely.

"This was broken with dark magic; to reforge it you require the aid of the four 'elements'. They are the crystalline forms of the energies that our world is made of. By infusing the blade with these energies is the only way it will be able to be reforged."

Link put his hands on his hips and shook his head. "It's never going to be easy is it." He looked up at Elzo, who was halfway falling asleep. "You said that one of the elements was here in Minish Woods didn't you?" When he got no response, the elder nodded his head.

"The Earth element can be found in the shrine to the north of Festari's abbey. Speak with him, and he will give you further directions. But walk with caution. No one has been to the shrine recently, and the monsters have made it their home. You must return here at once after retrieving the Earth element, so I may guard it safely."

When they arrived near the abbey, some of the Minish started to stop and stare at them. "It must've been a very long time since they've seen a human." said Link with his hands behind his head. They finally stepped inside past a mob of the Minish, and asked to be taken to the shrine.

"Not many people have come back from the shrine, are you still willing to go?" Ezlo nodded. "For the sake of Hyrule, we MUST go." The Minister sighed. "Very well... this way." He led them down a hallway directly behind him. His arm pointed to an opening not too far off.

"Just beyond there lies the shrine. Be careful, vile beasts have settled in recently, and it has become quite dangerous." Link reached up to grip the handle of his sword, slowly drawing it. As they stepped out, Link had to cover his eyes from the brightness of the sun. Beyond that, a large temple waited for them to enter.

As Link stepped around, the waft of evil caught him strongly. He could almost sense the monsters from within. Ezlo looked around at the detailed carvings in the wall. "This must be Deepwood Shrine that the elder spoke of. He said something about monsters, didn't he?" Link twirled his blade around with expert precision. "Nothing a little sword-play won't handle." His confidence was still on a massive scale, even if he wasn't.

"Not that there's anything to be afraid of, but I think I'll wait out here." Elzo was darting his eyes back and forth waiting for a monster to jump at him. "You know, on second thought, you're the one with the sword, take me with you!" Link smirked and rolled his eyes as he sheathed his sword.

Further ahead, the lights began to dim. Only a small distance could be seen in front of Link, and that was still hazy. "Wak! Who turned out the lights in this place!" Ezlo was becoming more anxious by the minute, and Link was getting annoyed. "Look, all I have to do is step on these switches," Link pressed his foot down on a tile in the floor. As he did, the room lit up. "and the lights come on. I've been through this kind of stuff before, no problem."

His reassurance proved itself when he came up to a small bar protruding from the wall. "Levers like this," Link said as he grabbed it. "can be pulled out to do something." He gave it a strong tug, and several stepping stones made a bridge across a small body of water. On the bank lied a small mushroom.

Link inspected the mushroom over and over. "Hmmmm... I've never seen anything like this before. Maybe if you hit it..." But Ezlo interrupted him, being a native of Minish territory. "You grab it, and use it like a slingshot. Try it out." Link held on to the cap of the fungus, and walked backwards. When he let his footing loose, he was thrown clear across the water to the other side. Face-planting, he stood up brushing himself off putting Ezlo back on his head.

"I just need some practice is all." They walked into a room with a relatively large barrel. Four leafy vines held it in place, as it remained motionless in the room. "The Minish put security measures like this in here so that not just anyone could reach the Earth element. You need to use your head for this one." Link rolled his eyes at the remark, and stepped on two tiles. The first burned the first set of safety ropes, the next one removed the second.

Link stepped inside the barrel, only to have to balance to walk across it. He stepped around inside, making it turn. After revolving the barrel like a wheel, a doorway opened up to the other side. He climbed through, and continued to delve deep into the shrine.

With minutes ticking away, and Vaati becoming progressively powerful, Link has no time to waste. While he has encountered some of these obstacles before, new challenges await him at different depths, and heights. Can he save Princess Zelda, or will he succumb to the dark evil that binds the Kingdom?

Crooked paths and doors lie in wait
Wicked monsters guard the sacred powers
Will the bane of the Sword of Light
Be enough to smite them?

Link came to a clearing where two pillars stood in the center of the room. He leaned up against one of them, and slid to the ground. "It seems the deeper I go, the more confused I am. At this rate, I'll never be able to help Zelda." He slammed his fists into the ground beside him. Ezlo stuck his beak into Link's nose.

"I've been meaning to ask, but what kind of relationship do you have with that girl anyway? It seems as if that's all you're talking about." Link's cheeks flustered, and he let out a sigh. Standing back upright, he gave one final glance around.

"A few years back was the first time I remember seeing her. I don't exactly remember the circumstances, but I can vividly remember when we first met. Her bright dress caught my eye, as she stood on the Palace Grounds. She was in a dire situation, at the least, and was looking for a brave warrior. She said she needed someone to-" Before he could finish, an tremendous shockwave blast through the temple. The ceiling above began to cave in, as Link dodged the falling debris just in time.

A large chunk of rock fell off, right above of the door. Seeing he was about to be sealed off, Link dove through the doorway, tumbling as he went. He picked his head up, and immediately grabbed at his sword. Finding it gone, he saw it across the room, atop a horrifying creature.

A large worm-like beast trounced about, not seeming to notice his guest. With cobwebs covering the walls, movement on the outer sections would be tricky. Link tried to stay as close to the wall as he could, being careful not to touch the sticky webs. He reached towards his sword, and his enemy quickly turned around to attack.

When it had looked for it's aggressor, he was no where to be found. The beast's anger slowly faded, as he continued his search for any food caught in the webs. Link however, had used this to an advantage. Sticking his body to a cobweb high above where the worm could see, he managed to avoid it. He landed softly behind, and tiptoed his way to his sword.

Grabbing his weapon, he put a large slash along the side of it, but it was much tougher than he had thought. It threw its body at him, knocking him back into a web. The worm licked its lips as it slowly walked towards his trapped prey. "Some help would be nice right about now." Link whispered to Ezlo. "Of course! What am I thinking!" Ezlo began to snip away the sticky web holding Link prisoner.

"A little faster might be nice too!" Right when Ezlo had finished, Link darted out of the way, as the creature rammed his head into the wall. Its body lie limp for a few moments, and twitched. Link braced himself for action, but found it to be a final movement of his foe. Its mouth opened, and a small jar rolled out.

"Food must be scarce this far in the temple." Link bent down and picked it up. The lid bobbled around on the surface of the jar. "It must've eaten this seeing it move. I wonder what's inside here..."

When Link removed the top, a strong wind began sucking things inside the jar, like a vortex. The outer rim spun around, progressively faster, and faster. When Link put the lid back on, pressure began to build up inside of it. He removed the cap once more, to have a large gust of wind projected from the jar. Apart from its small appearance, it could contain quite a bit of air. "The Gust Jar. It fits, because it shoots out gusts of air!" Link tapped Ezlo on the top of the head. "How does that sound?"

"You're so original aren't you?" Ezlo just rolled his eyes. "Now stop gawking at your new toy, and focus on saving Zelda. The Earth Element should be close. Once we find it, we'll be that much closer to repairing the sword."

There wasn't even a moment to catch his breath, when Link saw the roof collapse, a small green blob oozed down the side of the wall. Soon, more and more of the green masses began to slide down, and soaked into the ground. Link stepped over to investigate, only to be surrounded by a large shadow. Looking up, a large green chu-chu was on its way down on top of him.

Rolling out of the way, he released his sword from its holster, and charged. The enemy noticing his minuscule antagonist, threw its body at him. Link was immediately thrown back against a wall, almost knocking him out. The shock had done more than he thought, as the room began to slowly grow dark. Soon, his body collapsed to the ground, and his sword fell gently by his side.

Ezlo also landed next to him, trying to move his way back over to Link, but the giant chu-chu moved next to him. Its giant green body touched Ezlo, sucking him into it's giant mass. "Wak! Link, no!!!" Just as Link was about to slip into a deep sleep, a voice echoed in his voice.

"Link, this is Zelda. Right now, you are the only one who can save Hyrule. You've done it before, and I trust you will do it again. Don't fall into the darkness, take my last bit of light!" Coupled with that, and the screams from his companion, Link regained his state of mind. Quickly jumping up and grabbing his sword, he darted off towards his slow-moving target.

"Link! I knew you'd pull through for us!" Ezlo tried to squirm out of the chu-chu, but all of his effort was in vain. He was saved by an arm thrust into the gelatinous mass, pulling him out. "What do you say," Putting the cap back on "we take this thing down once and for all?".

A fire burned in his eyes and soul, and the same feint glow shone in the blade he held. With that pair, an unparalleled power lie within, and the hope of Hyrule steadily grew as Link forged on. With each step, the goal closer; with each step, the monsters stronger.

The giant chu chu towered over Link as it stood there menacingly. Link twirled his sword around trying to come up with a plan on how to defeat this foe. He searched his mind, and his inventory. The chu chu grew closer, but only slightly. It inched towards them gazing down as Link's patience faded.
"There's got to be something in here that I can use!" He was now feverishly digging through his collection. "Bottle, no. Sword, it'd just get stuck. Shield, maybe later." He came to the gust jar. "It's worth a shot..." He grabbed the jar and grasped it in his hands. "Cross your fingers Ezlo." At which point Ezlo just rolled his eyes.

A faint click came from the jar, as the lid began to rotate around the outer rim. With each revolution, another click was heard. Faster the lid spun around. Small pieces of chu chu jelly began to come from the support of the enemy. The chu chu began to wobble as it's stalk began to thin. With a sudden movement, it fell to the ground. Link ran over to the fell beast, and drew his sword.

The beast let out a deep cry that made Link drop to his knees and cover his ears. The foundation began to quake from the wails. He looked up to see the gelatinous puddle inching toward the outside light. Link darted towards the chu chu, his footsteps booming as they threw him forward.

"You are in a bad position. You're in between Zelda and me!!" He thrust his weapon into the eye of the beast. From below up, it seeped through the flooring disappearing from site.

"That was almost too easy." Link said as he peered around at the hollowingly empty room. "Something's not right." He felt a chill run towards his spine. A dark shadow whisked up behind him, so close to him they almost touched. It leaned in close to his ear.

"Quite right my boy, this is merely the beginning." Link immediately turned to see what had spoken, but saw nothing. "Ah ah ah," said the voice mockingly. "we wouldn't want to spoil the surprise now would we?" Directly after that, the roof began to rumble. An even more menacingly huge chu chu squeezed through an enlarging crack in the ceiling.
