This is the room where Tsubame Takanashi and Ryan Stephen Feldric reside.

Like every other room in the Dango dormitories, this one is designed solely to provide the basics - two simple beds adjacent to opposite walls, each with light blue freshly washed sheets (if smelled closely, a vague scent of magnolia could be sensed), between the beds a wide wooden desk with two chair behind it. Above the desk, a wide window is placed, providing sufficient light for work. Each of the students residing in the room is also provided a closet, the two of them placed to the right from the entrance.

Students might decorate the room to their liking. The rooms are spacious, so they can also add some smaller pieces of furniture. The basic furniture that each room has must not be changed irreversebly or otherwise damaged.

Closing the door behind him and placing the three smaller books on the desk, Ryan looked at the fourth one he'd picked - Twilight. "Well, it can't be that bad, can it? Seems like a lot of people liked it from what it says on the back..."

Lying down on the bed that was to the left of the door, Ryan opened the book and started reading...or, at least, tried to. After about the twenty-fifth page, he started flipping and muttering to himself. "Drivel...drivel...promotion of some guy and not-so-subtle foreshadowing of a relationship, drivel, filler, drivel...and they call this a book?" Closing it, Ryan tossed Twilight across the room, where it hit the door with a loud thunk and fell to the floor. Picking up Nineteen Eighty-Four, Ryan decided to start on that instead, considering that it was something he'd liked.

Wide eyed, Tsubame opened the door fancifully labeled with an ornate two, completely startled by the obsenant thump of something hard hitting the dark cherry wood. Pushing the door inward, she spied Ryan stretched across the bed to the right, face pushed into a book. Stepping inside, Tsubame stared down at the floor and the fractiously askew book stuck behind the door. "So...I can say you didn't like this book, Feldric-san?" Dipping down the retrieved the hard bound volume and read the title, and was immediately put off. The daughter of the aristocrat she'd recently sold, and hemmed a furisode for had raved endlessly about the 'sparkling vampires' and such to the point that Tsubame would never attempt to read the book should she have the choice.

Dropping the unappealing novel on the desk at the back of the room, Tsubame removed the small amethyst colored satchel from her back and tossed it to bed at the left, then religiously undid the back of her ankle length hair and fingering out the strands. Gliding towards the closets, she curiously peeked inside both and stopped a the second, finding the provided Academy uniforms neatly stacked on a low shelf. "A good read there?" Tsubame questioned while removing a female set and returning to her bed.

"Better than that tripe," Ryan replied as he made his way through the trials and tribulations in the life of one Winston Smith. "I have no idea how that one became so popular...it's nothing but fancy words on a page. Perfect smart girl with no troubles in her life at all meets the man of her dreams...it makes me want to throw up."

Looking up, Ryan noticed the uniform and decided to put his book down for now. Looking in the closet, he took a set that didn't look like Tsubame's (he hoped) and looked it over. "No buttons, no zippers...how the hell do you put this thing on?"

"You tie it on. When lacking an sort of button or zipper, the only thing left is tying." Holding a single finger aloft in the classic 'state the facts' pose. "But then, considering what you've told me, you've never been around this type of clothing before. I get clients that request 'western'," Tsubame made a sour little face, showing how much she enjoyed making western clothing, "so, I've been exposed to just about any garment you can think of."

Ryan shrugged, folding the uniform up and putting it back. "I think we can leave figuring out how to put it on until tomorrow. I want to make sure it doesn't fall down in the middle of the day or anything like that, and I'm terribly unused to things that you have to tie on. Either you used buttons or you just pulled it on over your head...or used the fancy new invention known as a zipper."

Turning back to face Tsubame, Ryan caught sight of her satchel. "I wonder how many other people brought things. I guess I'm probably the only one who brought nothing but the clothes on my back - even that drunkard had his damn alcohol on him."

"Feldric-san, I wouldn't expect you to have any material items yet, you yourself said you've only been in Soul Society since yesterday. How could you have something outwardly special and significant in such a short amount of time?" Letting her own eyes trail to her bag, Tsubame undid the top and dipped her hand inside. Removing a small silvery comb, separating a small section of her long locks and pulling it surely through the strands. "Are there any clothes you would like? We're allowed to leave the Academy when we aren't in classes, I'll pay and you can pick out what you'd like." Finishing with that section, Tsubame selected another and continued brushing out her hair. "Don't worry about the price to much, I've saved for over thirty years and I think it's a wonderful gesture to share ones wealth. Although, I wouldn't ever say I'm wealthy." Smiling brightly, her offer extended into her eyes as a purely honest want to help Ryan adjust to life in Soul Society, that same way her parents had years ago.

"What could there be, though?" Ryan looked around the room, trying to think of what he could possibly want. "I have no idea what I could get - I don't even know where I could start. These clothes are pretty much all I've had for my entire life - and my time as a spirit. Simple, I know..."

Ryan trailed off, looking at the floor again. "I don't think I could ever find what I would be used to in terms of clothes, at least not here. I doubt I'd be allowed a gun, either...but one thing I did have that I was good at was a chessboard." He looked up at Tsubame again. "Have you ever played chess, by any chance?"

Frowning lightly, Tsubame also stared at the floor, feeling a tiny bit foolish. She could tell how off put Ryan was at her offer, but she wouldn't take it back. "Un, I've played it a few times, but I'm more familiar with Go than anything else." Finished with brushing out her hair, Tsubame separated it into halves and used the comb to smooth the two parts forward. First braiding one side and securing it with a lilac bow before repeating the same treatment on the other side. "We could always find you a chess set then, they aren't common, but I know a few places that might have one. As for clothing...I could always make them for you, that way there as close to being comfortable as they can be."

Ryan's face began to flush at Tsubame's offer. He hadn't been used to such offers, not because no one ever offered them but because no one had had much to offer and he hated imposing on others. "...Thank you, Tsubame. You don't have to do this, and I just wish there was something - anything - I could give you in return." Ryan shook his head a bit, pushing some stray hair out of his eyes. "And, please...call me Ryan."

“No, no,” Tsubame returned, waving her hands in a negative awkwardly, “you don’t have to repay me at all.” Maybe her offer had been a little to bold, but she enjoyed bringing happiness to others and watching them blossom under the kindness she gave. Generosity was beaten into her, “You already have…if I’d been assigned another room mate I’m not sure what I would do…” Looking at the floor dejectedly, she twirled the end of one of her braided pigtails through her fingers. Even if she could handle stranger after stranger as a seamstress, living arrangements were quite different, and had she not met Ryan almost immediately, Tsubame might have begged the dorm head for a single room. Taking a refreshing and steadying breath, she let her multicolored eyes rise. “Fe-, Ryan-kun, I really am relieved you ended up being my room mate, and all I’d like is for you to be comfortable, that is why I extended the offer.” Giving an encouraging and genuine smile, Tsubame turned away momentarily to deposit her comb back in her satchel.

Ryan took a step toward Tsubame. He hadn't seen anyone smile like that in...in a long time. In fact, the last time had been...no, Ryan. Not now. Don't think of that.

He couldn't help but wince at the memory, though. It was painful - and despite how Tsubame's smile made him want to return it, he couldn't. Not without thinking of his life and his memories, at least. "That was not my doing, Tsubame, it was the work of our head of house. I would like to repay you somehow, in some way that I know that it was my work and not someone else's."

Letting out a breath, Ryan pushed the memories away as he always had done. "That said, I feel the same way, as you are someone I am comfortable with. I don't know if I would have been able to stand even one night with someone I did not know. I have to thank you again, Tsubame...for wanting to make me feel comfortable. I just do not want to impose on you or make myself a burden." Ryan touched his shirt, feeling how it was beginning to come apart. "I want to keep this, but I guess if we do go out that I will have to wear something a bit better...it wouldn't be good if this fell apart while I was out in public."

Flushing cutely, Tsubame was slightly concerned by Ryan’s lack of a smile, but his voice was adamant as could be. “Don’t worry, you can wear your uniform outside, and I’ll mend your shirt as well as I can.” Looking to the window, she noted the setting sun and stood. “But, going out will have to wait until tomorrow, most of the shops will be closing this time of day.” Walking over to the door, Tsubame switched on the over head light, flooding the room with a warm glow as the natural light abated. Returning to her bed, she pulled out a white sleeping robe and disappeared into the small bathroom. Returning a moment later, her furisode hung over one arm and obi and jime folded in the other hand, she opened the closet where she’d found her uniform and set the obi on the shelf and hung her furisode on one of the provided hangers. “I suppose for now we should get a good nights sleep…today was different to say the least.” Chuckling, Tsubame closed the closet and came back to Ryan. “I’ve never had a formal education, so this will be quite the experience.”

Ryan was a bit startled by the electric light coming on, but it's not like he didn't know what it was. "Well, at least that's something we won't have to buy - candles and lantern oil."

When Tsubame came out of the bathroom, Ryan was reminded of something he hadn't had in decades - a drink. Walking into the bathroom, his eyes widened as he saw the tap. "You can't be...running water..." Without a moment's hesitation he stuck his head under the tap, turning on the cold water and letting it run into his mouth for a moment before turning it off. Not caring that his face had gotten slightly wet, he walked back into the room, lying down on his own bed. "You're right...I've never been to a school of any sort myself, so I guess it will be interesting for the both of us."

“Yes, I just hope that the teachers are understanding toward beginners. They don’t have to be kind, but paced well enough for learning to take place.” Walking back to the light switch, Tsubame flicked off the white light, letting her eyes adjust before moving. Coming back to her bed, she moved her satchel to the ground and lifted the corner of the blue blankets and sheets. The sun light was nearly gone, only enough to see vague outlines in the steadily darkening room. “Good night Ryan-kun,” slipping between the raised sheets, Tsubame set her pillow askew and wrapped her arms around the plush cushion, “tomorrow I’ll definitely take you to find a chess set, I promise.” Closing her eyes, she feigned sleep, snuggling beneath the covers and hoping she’d be able to rest easy away from her home.
