Now, I'm going to preface this: I was not injured in any way.

However, a little kid in year 7, the youngest year had the ever-loving s**t beaten out of him. I'm not exaggerating in any way.

A rather large Year 8 boy who had been tormenting the Year 7s, including my little sister, from day one got into a fight with him. It ended with the year 7 boy on the ground, unconcious, having had his head kicked into a concrete wall.

However, as terrible as this is, this is not the reason I have been kinda depressed today. See, this all happened when I was at home, having my lunch. At my school, in years 10 and 11, you can leave the school for lunch. I go home. But what makes me depressed is that the boy unconcious on the floor, almost completely deafened due to being kicked in the head could quite easily have been my little sister, and being at home there would have been nothing I could have done about it. The thought of this scares me, upsets me, and depresses me all at the same time. Thankfully, the Year 8 will be expelled, and probably will be arrested or at least put under police observation, due to having committed Common Assault leading to Grievous Bodily Harm. But the thought of that happening to my little sister, and not being able to do anything...

Anyway, thanks for listening SG. It's good to talk about this sorta thing.

I feel for ya, if I had a younger family member, and anything happened that close to them, I'd freak out.

Dear Hattie,

Where do you live? What kind of school system is that and how does it relate to High Schools in the U.S.A.? The whole year 7,8, etc. kinda confuses me.

And that horrible! I've grown up in private school and that's all that I've ever known, so I can't really relate, but that does seem horrible.

if it makes you feel any better, it's unlikely that your sister would be beat up in such a way because of her gender. she's more likely to go through some sort of psychological assault, teasing and the like. she may even be threatened, and if so, more likely by another girl, but i think it's far less likely for a girl bully to actually physically beat up someone. they just like to intimidate to make themselves feel better.

nevertheless, that really sucks for the boy. is he okay?

gute nacht mond

Well, I'm not quite sure about the US/UK conversion rates, but I know that I was almost twelve when I got into Year 7, and I'm one of the oldest in the year. I think the rule, as told to me by TVTropes.org is that the US Grade = UK Year - 1.

And the thing is, my sister looks very much like a boy. It's for that reason that I worry about it. I know I'm being slightly paranoid, and from what I heard the Year 7 kid did kinda provoke the Year 8 kid, but... Still, it frightens me. This is the worst fit of violence that has happened in my school, which isn't exactly known for being a nice and peaceful school.

From what Hattie said, I'll be guessing the system is remotely similar to the one here:
5 years of HS after 6 years elementary school, starting at 6 years of age.

...well, actually, here we call years 1-6 "primary", 7-9 "secondary", and 10-11~12 (depends on your school) "preparatory".
But whatever.

I've also been my whole life in private schools where non-violent situations occur, but are worthy of expelling the involved students.

Also, that's horrible. sad The poor kid.
But hey, even if you feel guilty, at least
1) it wasn't your sister
2) now you'll have the chance to be a good brother and stay at school to be aware of her so nothing of the sort will happen to her

And Mond, I've actually known much more often about serious violence among girls than boys. sweatdrop LA might be a bit weird in that aspect, though.

The worst fit of violence at my school ended in a concussion, a broken arm, and twisted leg, one shoe over a telephone pole, a ripped up hat, and a bloody nose.

It was caused by a small 8th grader, like, 4"6' small (This was when I was in 7th grade) The kid mouthed off just a beet, and then the tiny kid's friend took it the wrong way and slammed him against a trailer and punched him. The kid got up and ran at the tall kid again, and got knocked down again, and did it two more times.

I got off the bus 2 hours late that day.

OK NO!

1. That kid would NOT have working legs right now, if he lived in MY town. He would find the end of a bat in his face, THAT he would find! But nothing that terrible has ever happened in my town. One guy DID get beat down by 2 guys with bats one day after school, but that kid was trying to be a bully, and I already told you it's how we handle "bullies".
2. Why are you worried about what didn't happen to your little sister? SHE IS FINE!!! WORRY ABOUT KEEPING HER THAT WAY!!!
