Okay, so I'm the only Art IV student in my school. So, I get to do whatever I want in that class art wise.
I've been going to a Catholic high school for the past 3 years (now a senior), and I have yet to do something religious.
.....
I had an idea of doing something with Solomon's Temple, because everybody always does depictions of Jesus and the disciples. Not that that's a bad thing, I just don't want to be like everybody else. I want to "break the trend", because that's what I do. [has run through an antique mall at 3:30 am screaming that she's a fairy princess]
Another idea may be one with Moses, or maybe even Abraham. The Old Testament is my best friend, and all last year I wanted desperately to be a prophet, so..... (Isaiah is my hero).
Any ideas?

For some reason, I always like the idea of taking something old and depicting it in a more modern sense in art...if it's done well, at least. Or maybe some sort of hybrid of the two. For example, depicting period arcitecture but having the people wearing modern clothes. I dunno. Period juxstoposition is something I think is fun to play with and can make for cool results.
I have no idea what your style or goal with the piece is, though, so my idea could in fact be totally lame and stupid to you.
As for subject matter...just pick something both that has special meaning to you, as well as something that lends itself to the sort of visual representation and creativity you're aiming for.

Actually, my first thought on this was to do something with Noah and his ark. 3nodding My second thought was to do something with Job or Jeremiah (no not the bullfrog! wink ). I also thought about Moses and pleding with the Pharoah for the freedom of the Israelites. Maybe even the first Passover would be interesting.
Actually, I'm thinking of doing a self-paced study of the Old Testament because every time my class (in high school) was supposed to study it or I wanted to take it (in college/university the first time through) the classes were either shifted and my class got short-changed because of the shift (the teachers made it madatory my junior year for sophmores to take Old Testament classes and Juniors to take New Testament...or something bizzare like that) or the class "was cancelled due to low enrollement." sweatdrop

The passage about Jesus raising Lazerus has always been a touching one to me. Especially since Jesus cried over the death of his friend. crying but I haven't seen it painted before. Maybe you could consider it or other miracles that no one has painted yet? 3nodding
