Name: Serelan
Age: 17
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Craft: None
Rank: Holder's Son

Physical Description: As a child, Serelan was small and delicate, with fine features and thin limbs. His thick, wavy black hair and lashes were striking in contrast to his pale skin, and his clear blue eyes were bright and alert.

Now however, Serelan is running to plump. His always-pale skin could now be more accurately described as pasty, and his dark hair hangs in limp, greasy strands around his face. He horribly in need of a haircut, and his chin tries desperately but fails utterly to produce facial hair. The extra weight doesn't sit well on his face--his fine bone structure is completely hidden and the delicate features are pathetically overshadowed. His eyes are still blue, but they are usually heavy-lidded and watery, or blurry from drinking wine. He nearly always wears an uninterested and slightly disdainful frown, and his hands and muscles are soft from idleness. His shirts are of the finest silk and his tunics are elaborately embroidered, but they're never clean. His clothing smells stale and is often smeared with grease from his last meal.

Personality: Pompous and lazy with a definite nasty streak, Serelan is not very popular at the weyr. He hates authority and has little respect for those in power, but he doesn't have the courage for outward rebellion; he would rather just seethe. To his peers, he is often mean and vulgar in a kind of desperate way, and the more vulnerable he feels, the more disagreeable he becomes...and his sudden relocation to the weyr has made him feel very vulnerable indeed.

Serelan is terrible to women, and they hate him whole-heartedly in return. But though he feels compelled to catcall and mention their private parts in public, women actually make him very uncomfortable. Incapable of intelligent conversation (i.e. anything non-sexual) with any female but Avery, Serelan's dating prospects do not look good.

Despite his arrogant and generally unpleasant personality, Serelan is actually an extremely sensitive individual. He has a constant and crushing fear of inadequecy that tends to determine his responses in almost every situation. He is easily hurt and offended, and is almost always unhappy.

History: Serelan was born into an extremely wealthy family of small holders in the countryside outside Katz Field Hold. As second son and partial heir to the family fortune, he was raised in luxury on his father's expansive properties, and often taken by his father to Katz Field Hold on business trips. However, he was not treated well by his father, who had inadequecy problems of his own and chose to take them out on the boy. Serelan was often physically and emotionally abused for "not being man enough," but the matter was kept private--though there were rumors among the other holders.

Serelan met Avery in Katz Field Hold when he was seven and she was nine, and his life changed forever. Avery's bluntness and no-nonsense approach was exactly what Serelan needed to pull him out of his lonely, frightened, angry little world. Their friendship was the highlight of his life, and since their fathers had business dealings, they saw each other fairly often. But when Serelan was 14, Avery was searched and taken away to the weyr. He felt completely abandoned, and without her good influence, he finally succumbed to his father's abuse and sunk to his current emotional state.

Surprisingly, three years later, Serelan was searched as well...at the same time Avery had come for a visit. Though he still harbored deep resentment for Avery's abandonment of him, some instinct for self-preservation prompted him to accept the invitation to live in the weyr. He is now struggling to find his place there. Though he has never seriously believed he will impress a dragon, he hopes to find the weyr a better place than his old home.

Pets: None
Other/Talents: Besides his obvious talent for pissing people off, Serelan is extremely good at deception (a skill he learned from his days living with his father). He can hide even his most passionate feelings, and he can lie without a second thought.
