If I am pregnant, will it do any harm sleeping on my stomach? Even for the first few months? Because thats how I usually sleep.

I don't know, and we can't really tell you, since we're not medical professionals. It would probably be best for you to talk to your doctor/OB-GYN and ask them instead, because they'd be able to give you a definite answer.

I don't think there is anything wrong with sleeping on your tummy early in pregnancy. But to keep proper blood flow/circulation, it's best to lay on your left side (in late pregnancy.) However, if you want to continue to lay on your tummy, it's a good idea to purchase a pillow with a hole in the middle. It elevates the rest of your body above your tummy and keeps pressure off of it. It also keeps good blood flow.

Here are some sites that may help you with sleeping durring your pregnancy.

Sleeping Positions

Quote:
9. Sleep right. Your body will normally let you know what is the most comfortable sleeping position. Standard pregnancy advice is that after the fourth month back sleeping should be avoided, since lying on your back puts the whole weight of your uterus on the major blood vessels that lay to the right of your spine. Since some women find themselves unable to sleep on their left side, the advice to avoid both back and right side lying is distressing for them. There is a theoretical advantage to sleeping on your left side, as it enhances circulation to the placenta. For women with placental problems the advice to sleep on their left side only is of utmost importance. However, most women move around during the course of the night and probably whatever position is comfortable for you is all right. Realistically, by the time you should not be sleeping on your stomach, you will find it is very uncomfortable to sleep on your stomach; and by the time you should not be sleeping on your back, you will find it is very uncomfortable to sleep on your back. The body is extremely resiliant. I honestly doubt that sleeping on your stomach will do any harm at all in the first few months.

That being said, you should try to sleep on your side once the bulge gets visible. There are pillows you can buy that make this more comfortable (by going in between your legs so that your hips don't go wonky or by giving you more support).

Of course, you should be in very close contact with your doctor throughout your pregnancy and shouldn't hesitate one minute to ask any questions like this. However great internet forums are, they usually just aren't a substitute for a real doctor wink
