Sleeping, he'd been sleeping when the crickets got to him finally and standing up he didn't realize how stiff he was. Grumbling under his breath at the moon staring at him almost with a smile, laughing at him! He nearly growled but, avoided the battle he knew the moon would win. he decided to wander away, thirsty out of his mind. He knew it was dry right now but, thsi dry, no wonder he loved the water as much as he did.

He began heading towards the river that flowed through their new territory. His eye's were hazy so he relied on his memory of where the river was to guide him, once he got there he'd take care of his eye's.

She was old. She knew that. She had a limp and her eyes were beginning to fail her, along with her ears. She coudl still hear and see, but she knew that her senses were no where near as sharp as they once were. Which was why she was ready to settle somewhere and live out the rest of her days peacefully. She knew her time would come soon enough, and she didn't want to have to struggle at the end. She wanted it to be quiet and kind, like she believed herself to be.

Moving with her body low to the ground, though she was certain no one else was about, she slunk closer to what she thought was a river or some type of water. Her throat felt parched, and she wanted nothing more than to sink her muzzle into the cool waters and feel their refreshing, life-giving liquids pour down her throat. As she wandered closer, one of her forepaws struck a rock and she found herself tumbling clumsily head over paws. She grunted and groaned before finally landing square in the river she had been searching for. She struggled to regain her balance but found that the tumble had sufficiently made her dizzy.

So it was in the middle of the river where she remained, her fur soaking up the water and clinging to her skinny frame. She began to shiver, the temperature of the river combined with the coldness of the night lowering her own body temperature. She was sure she'd freeze right there, but she had faith. She'd get out.

Sooner or later... she'd get out.

Menelaus yawned fiercely as he came into view of the river. It wasn't at peace though as the moon had claimed it'd be. He snorted slightly and watched the river a bit more closely. This wasn't caused by the natural occurrences that made a river flow. They were ripples. Instantly he was on edge, eye's wide and searching but, no where near as sharp as his nose was. He caught a gentle whiff on the air that told him a wolf was near, female and aged but, he couldn't tell how aged. He wasn't ready for a challenge at this time in the morning! He brought himself up to full height and searched the rivers for the cause of the ripples.

He wandered up the river a bit more. The stink of wolf got stronger. It wasn't a wolf he knew either which made him even more on edge. Age meant wisdom. He feared the wisdom he didn't have. A few more steps and he spotted something. The darkness was illuminated by the moon and he silently thanked his friend in the sky and moved forward. "Hello!" He barked, his tone monotonous. He didn't want to cause trouble where the was none. He stared forward and noticed the body seemed unable to move.

"Hello?" He questioned now. He was smiling inside a bit, the water was on his side.. had it destroyed an enemy?

Whisper lay in the middle of the river, embarassingly unable to move. She wondered what sort of creature would find her here, and if it would decide that she was lunch. All she could do, however, was lay in wait. And it wasn't long before she heard something moving towards her. The wind was blowing the wrong direction, but she was sure she wouldn't be able to sniff out whoever it was anyways. Her nose was almost dead now, so sniffing was rather useless at this point.

Her ears could still hear, however, and she could hear the voice of the other, drifting towards her over the water. It didn't sound particularly threatening, but she knew that she was probably on someone else's territory. Not all wolves were so kind as she, and so she prepared to be attacked. This was a good time to go, wasn't it?

But, on the offchance that this wolf wasn't dangerous or malicious, the green female decided that she might as well respond and prove that she herself wasn't a threat.

"Hello!" she rasped in return, tail swishing the water around her as she attempted to wag it. "Anyone there?" She had thought that someone was, but then she suddenly realized how old she was, and that she could have possibly been going insane and imagining the sounds around her. Hoepfully not. She didn't want to be crazy.

The voice wrenched poor Menelaus' heart and he growled at himself. This wolf was stuck in the river, alive and maybe well. He sped up his pace and got to her position quicker then he would have for any other wolf that may wander in. He was naive to surprise attacks and thus thought nothing but, of helping. "Hello." He said, he took notice to the attempting wagging of her tail. A friendly wolf, her eye's told of her age and her body seemed to be wanting nothing more than a place to lay down.

He got down low and offered his body weight to lean on and help her free. He stopped asking any questions that popped to his head and all that. He'd get to it after. The safety of thsi wolfess was all he had in mind and he wouldn't rest til she was deeper in his territory and safe among the rest of his pack.

Once she was able to get up with him he readied himself to move forward.

Upon seeing the other, she realized that it was a large male. Her heart stopped for a moment in her chest, fearing that he was here to end her days. But upon closer inspection and after he moved foward to help her she realized that he was another kind soul like herself. She smiled weakly and attempted another wag of her tail. The water was weighing her down, however, and she found it hard to move and increasingly harder to breath. It was cold, too cold, and her fat reserves weren't sufficient to keep her warm.

As he offered himself to lean on, she croaked, "Oh! You are so kind, thank you." She squirmed a bit in the water, but it took her a little time to move her paws underneath her body to push herself up.

"I'm sorry if I startled you," she continued, trying to distract herself from the strain in her muscles.

"What is your name?" she questioned as she leaned against him, ready to go where ever he decided to lead her. She had already decided that he was a good wolf, not evil, and so wasn't thinking of the possibility that he could be leading her to her death.

Menelaus was more than willing to stand in his cold water for as long as it took her to get up and free of what could have been her end. Once she was ready to move he started towards the dry bank, taking on her pace the whole way but, trying to rush her a little bit.

"My name is Menelaus I am the alpha here, of our pack the YMCA. Chivosi is my partner." He smiled sweetly to the fragile framed female. It was no doubt to him now that she wasn't young, perhaps she had been but, not now. He admired her green coat a moment before getting her up and out of his water. "What is yours?" He asked, his voice gentle and warming. He had no intention of harming her or letting anything here harm her.

She was protected on his lands. He'd make sure of that to his death even, though it probably wouldn't come to that.

Whisper was thankful that the wolf that had happened upon her had been a kindly soul, willing her help her out of what would have certainly become her deathbed. Already she could feel the cold sinking past her fur and deep down into her bones. She shivered against him, but mostly tried to hide the fact that she was old and frail. She remembered when she was younger and much more energetic, and felt it was ashame to have ended up in a state such as her own.

"Thank you, very much," she breathed, getting each word out in between steps as she leaned against the large male. When he told her that he was an alpha and that she was on his pack's lands, she immediately wanted to leave. She felt she had trespassed and that she had committed a great crime. Not wanting to cause any more trouble, she figured she would simply remove herself from the situation and be done.

"That sounds lovely," she whispered, referring to him talking about his partner. Whisper had gone through many mates in her lifetime, each one leaving her when their lives no longer fit together. It saddened her, but she knew that each would go on to find themselves in better places. And her? She never really seemed to find a better anything. Unable to hunt and fend for herself, she was a rather sorry excuse for a wolf. She scavenged and remained rather thin, her fur not shining in the least.

"My name is Whisper," she spoke quietly, in response to his question. She knew that it was only polite to have introduced herself in turn, but her instincts told her to remove herself from him and to stop burdening him. "I'm no alpha, as you can probably tell," she chuckled, half-heartedly. She knew her situation was far from glamorous, and she didn't particularly like talking about it.
