Well i paint pretty chaotic when i compare my way of working to other atrists, because i really go with the flow. Colors i just pick out somewhat random and see if they work or i make em work. Some parts i strart detailing right of the bat and other parts i leave rough painted untill the very end, but luckly i had some layers i could turn off with this picture so i can show some progress smile
first of all this was all done with a hard brush .. normaly i use the standaard one in photoshop, but for this one i tried working with this brush

(if you got some time you should check out his progress pics .. he is the s**t !)
anyways here is my progress pic

1. alright i started out with a very quick grey scale sketch. when the sketch was done i used a gradiant (greenish to purple) on a new layer (i think i set it to multiply or something). anyways i do this so that you already have some extra colors to work with.
2. Throw down some colors i see fit
3. some random adding structure and adding some darker colors.
4. more shading. I added a more orange like color on the armor to give it more saturation at points. at this point i am just really sampling colors all over the place and sometimes even mixing them on the spot when i need a darker or lighter version of a color on screen.
5. fixed 1 arm and made em a sligtly other color wher it connects to the body so that the chest doesnt look all that confusing. also know that at this point i am flipping my image (horizontal) all the time to fix obvious perspective flaws.
6. working on the other hand and stuff
7. and done. the only thing i do after step 7 is play with the color balance because that seems to help sometimes. i found a great tip on a work blog of this artist.

which stated
"Of course by now (if you've been reading my articles) you know I merge all my layers every once in a while. I have them merged and I use color balance on them to bring out more red in mid-tone areas, and a bit more blue in darker areas. It usually works the best that way."
and ever since i used that my stuff has had that little bid extra.
anyways hope it gives some insight to some people here aswell
