Name: Fanigan
Age: Eighteen
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Undefined
Craft: None
Rank: Weyrbrat
Physical Description: Fanigan likes to think he looks roguishly handsome. Most people tend to think he just looks like he got punched in the nose. His nose is rather crooked – courtesy of Theron – but it matches his rather lop-sided grin so it all works out in the end. That aside, his face is rather pleasant to look at, with the beginnings of wind burn on his cheeks and collections of sun freckles. It's probably that he'll get wrinkles around his eyes when he's older from squinting, and the way his brown eyes crinkle a little when he smiles isn't helping any. His hair is dark brown and shaggy, tucked away underneath his bandanna whenever he gets the chance.
He has a habit of mimicking Theron whenever he thinks he can get away with it, and has in his wardrobe a set of outlandish clothes and extra bandannas. For the most part, however, he dresses in standard Igen-style clothing, with his bandanna tied around his hair or his neck.
Personality: Clever, verbose, shrewd, witty (sometimes) Fanigan. The boy is many things, and easy to understand is not one of them. Having grown up in a place that encouraged bronzerider sons to become bronzeriders, and everyone else to settle for second best, he has a surprisingly high opinion of himself. He's definitely the type to swagger, loving to charm his way into situations and charm his way right back out at the first sign of trouble. Words are his specialty, and he makes conversations into games of verbal fencing, where the winner must land several 'hits' on the opponent whilst avoiding getting hit themselves. He loves play on words and innuendos, using them whenever the opportunity arises. It's hard to know if he means what he says or if he's simply playing, running verbal circles until he tires of his little game. Fanigan is also a fan of nicknames, and is quick to assign them to any and everyone he meets. Sunshine, Lovely, Pet, Sugar, he'll use them all, and will repeat if the occasion calls for it. The only person immune to a nickname (to her face at least) is Iathe, though he says it's because she's "too pretty." What he means is that she's absolutely terrifying, but since most share that same fear, it's not something that manly men like Fan admit to each other.
He's a lover, not a fighter (or so he says), and spends a great deal of his time talking to and flirting with women. These women are usually in his gang – or at the very least supporters and pacifists – and thus he justifies working with them as "building relations." If those relations happen to take him for a roll between the furs then that suits him just fine. Commitments aren't his thing, not in the long run anyways, and he views the majority of his relationships in a very militant way. Favours are to be traded and won, and members of his gang must be convinced somehow to stay. It is not uncommon for him to be 'involved' with several women at once, some because they've made a deal and others because he's trying to win them over. He doesn't seem to mind female authority, finding women very interesting to talk to when they connect their brain and their mouths. Because of this he's not actively against having more female riders, though he doesn't go out of his way to support it, allowing his gang members to choose their stance on the matter.
Close relationships are not really his thing, and he rarely allows others to get to know him. He brushes them off with word play until they give up, keeping up his image as a very cheeky young man who has probably bitten off more than he can chew. Things definitely do catch up to him (most often these things involve Theron) and he's paid the price for his quick tongue more often than he cares to remember. When he's not goofing around and messing up Theron's wall scrawl he spends his time watching his little gang. Fanigan likes to know everything that goes on in his group, perhaps a remnant of his predecessor. Though he is not as worried that someone is going to take over from him, he does have the same element of pride that helps him believe that he is the one who will lead Flying Wherries to victory. There is also a part of him that is rather selfish, insistent that it has to be him and no one else. Other people may be swayed, but Fan is sure that only he will keep his head and not let the Weyrwoman win him over. He does not support anyone in his gang trying to find ways to subvert him, and as such is not afraid of leaving gang members at the mercy of his enemies should they decide that they feel like "changing the world" around him. This is his gang and he'll run it as he pleases.
History: There's not much to say about Fan's past. His father was probably a rider, of what colour it's hard to know for sure, and maybe his mother was a rider but he never spent much time with her either. He grew up with the rest of the Weyrbrats in communal care, and grew quickly accustomed to the dog eat dog world that was the realm of Igen children. Due to his status of "parents absent" and his dislike of then young Theron, he became an active member of the Flying Wherries, and served faithfully from the moment he was old enough to Stand. Though he was dedicated to his cause, this dedication seemed to do little to attract a dragon's attention. He remained on the Sands for many Turns, watching as his fellow gang members Impressed. The only upside to the whole thing was that Theron seemed to be as dragon repellent as he was.
When the leader stepped down due to his age, Fanigan began a steady climb up the ranks. Whether or not he had what it took to be a leader, his charm seemed to make others believe he had something worth keeping. When he was sixteen he became second in command, and rose in rank again before his seventeenth birthday after the leader Impressed a green. He's had the gang for littler over a Turn now, and still has high hopes for it, despite his current age. His childhood rivalry with Theron hasn't changed – perhaps even made worse now they're opposing gang leaders – but with a new player on the field things have started to take a turn down a more interesting path.
