A light grey form crept through the underbrush, paying special attention to being as small and unnoticed as possible. It was a very dangerous world, and this wolf was done with chasing things bigger than himself. He needed a calm and small retirement from his crazy life... he needed to settle down and find someone who could put up with his strange dark green mind.

The wolf sniffled and paused, lifting a paw to brush the dust from his nose. He had been scenting his way along unsure of where he was going but believing that if he followed familiar scents, he couldn't be led anywhere too bad. He lept forward after a moment, yelping softly to himself. A fantom had bit him right in the a**, and it had surprised him greatly! When he whipped his head around, nothing was there. He sighed and continued on his way.

He wound around trees, scratching his sides along them as he went. The huge scar over more than half of his stomach and ribs was nearly completely covered up by the thin fur that had grown back, and he didn't look like some kind of creep anymore. It was too bad that he hadn't come into contact with any wolves lately, he could surely use some brushing up on his communication skills. A lifetime of speaking to yourself couldn't turn out too well in the long run.

There had been two wolves who he had spent a good deal of time with, and they were long gone now. He would always owe his life to them, as they had come to his rescue in his most dire time of need. These huge scars would have turned into deadly wounds if they hadn't come in time and helped to kill the moose he had attacked for no good reason.

Those two! He sighed happily, giggling a bit to himself. He was older than dirt, and almost the same color of it, but they had been young sprites. For just a moment, the grey wolf with black ears and sparkling green eyes could hardly wait to meet a new wolf, and he slunk along faster, his tail whooshing to and fro in the moonlight.

It had been a while since the black and white femme had left her spotted counterpart. The night grew darker and ever less silent, as the sounds of crickets and owls rang through your mind. Her coat was highlighted by the light of the moon, tail wagging to and fro rapidly as she now raced through the forest with intent.

She was on a mission. For what one might ask? Who knew. It may be to meet another wolf in these parts, discover uncharted territory, or even perhaps to find a midnight snack! Whatever the case, a large grin protruded from her maw, eager eyes sparkling against the nightlife. Undergrowth held no tough passage for her, and the trees aligned perfectly with her every move. It was a good night for a run.

Pitter patter, pitter patter. The sound of footsteps nearby. Rapid footsteps at that. There was no time for stopping now, however, and Kaya quickly steered her course off the path she had been following, trying her best not to make too much noise. This would be a stealth meeting, she decided.

Suddenly, the elder froze. He had heard something, for real this time. "Who... who's there?" his eyes narrowed and he shrunk back, curling into a the smallest ball of fur that he could manage. He was instantly fearful again, and wished he had never ventured out of his den to seek out more wolves.

He pulled his tail over his snout, and covered his eyes with his paws, hoping that if he couldn't see it, it couldn't see him. At least it had sounded small? Several things raced through his mind at once, making the male dizzy, and he shook violently, rattling the leaves around him. As the leaves rattled, he envisioned giant snakes with crazy rattling tails coming for him, mouths agape and full of sharp pointy teeth.

"Oh god!" he uttered, unable to keep himself quiet any longer. "Please don't hurt... meeee...." he hissed desperately. Begging would probably not keep him alive any longer than if he had kept quiet, but it was just too late for that now.

A small frown crept up on the femme whenever she heard his response. Obviously he wasn't one for games, let alone surprise encounters. "I won't hurt you. Promise." Her voice was soft, gentle, sweet, innocent, and reflective of the lack of threat she imposed. Finally she reached his location and stood still, keeping some space between them. The poor thing looked to be trembling with fear. A soft breeze sent fur flying to the west, and Kaya took a brief moment to recompose herself in its midst. "My name is Kaya. I'm sorry to have scared you so badly. I was just playing around."

A few short moments more of terror, and suddenly the source of the noise was before him. A small black and white pup stood speaking to him, and she didn't seem terrifying at all!

He calmed down quickly after that. Not only did he love pups, but he felt so at ease with females that his shoddy mental capacities returned to normal in no time any time they were near. "Ah, ah, ah... I'm alright, I'm alright." he tried to reassure the pup. There was no reason to make the pup think she had done something wrong!

"Kaya, my name is Mingan!" he exclaimed with a small timid yip. He had always through it a cruelty that his name literally meant grey wolf... and here he was, a grey wolf.

He was a wolf of little words, but he managed to uncurl himself from his frightened position into a more comfortable one. "It's good for a pup to play, play all you can." he imparted these words of strange wisdom as he brushed the leaves aside with a paw, making a clear spot for his tail to swish in without making the scary rattling sound.

Her body shivered slightly from a cold gust flying past as the gray one swept away the remaining leaves upon the earth. This one was a much older fellow, complete with aging marks indicating a long and detailed life behind him. He also seemed quite shy, submissive, and if not a bit paranoid perhaps. Kaya wondered what a wolf like this 'Mingan' was doing out here all alone, if he was so afraid in fact. "What brings you out here by yourself?" she questioned softly, deciding to appease her curiosities. Albeit beautiful landscape and fresh new territory to explore, it didn't much seem like he'd last too long, if mayhaps there were dangers lurking. You never really knew.

Of course, it was not her hopes to be so judgmental, so she quickly calmed her mind and told herself to not read everything by its cover. That would do you no good in life, she'd been told. A small back paw scraped over her ears a few times to remove the speckles of dirt and debree the gust had packed on it, causing somewhat of an itch.

Glancing around, the grey wolf finally rested eyes back on the pup. "Well... I'm wandering, I guess." he smiled sheepishly. He had a home - South Seaside took good care of him - but every once in a while he wondered about his friends he had met long ago. The shaman Fute lived in the same pack with him, but due to some unknown mishap between the big male and the alpha, he rarely strayed towards the midlands of the pack.

What Mingan really wanted out here was to find his friend Rochir, to see how he was doing. The shaman and the red male had saved him from that elk, and for that he was eternally grateful. "What about you, little one?" he pondered out loud, blinking slowly, his green eyes sparkling.

"I guess you could say I'm wandering as well. I'm new around here. Exploring the territory." It was true. She had no business being alone out here herself. Unfortunately the case, she had no other solid option. Couldn't ask another to spend all their time wandering around aimlessly with a less than wary ball of fur now could you.

Upon hearing her reason, the grey wolf cocked his head a bit. "New..." he smiled bigger now, and stood, his tail swishing through the air. "Mingan can show you around, maybe you want to see the packlands, and meet some friends?" he asked, a bit over-confidently, as he was skittish around everyone... except maybe the alpha and her daughter Hannah.

He had already forgotten his journey to find Rochir, and he shook his coat out, hoping for a positive answer from the pup. They weren't too extremely far from the packlands, and there was no harm in bringing a pup home. If Loki loved anything, it was pups!

Kaya took a gentle step forward and offered a sweet smile of approval, pausing for a moment. "That sounds great, actually." she nodded slightly. So he did indeed have a pack then. Fair enough. Mayhaps she'd misjudged his circumstances. The thought of new friends filled her with excitement beyond compare. The more to see, the more to love, the better!

Not wanting to seem overly anxious, she waited quietly for Mingan to take the first steps forward towards whatever direction they may be headed. New adventure, here I come!

Yay! She approved. Mingan was happy, and his tail swished faster. When it looked as though she was ready to follow, the wolf turned himself around and trotted off in the direction he had come from.

It wouldn't be long before they arrived back to the outskirts of the pack's lands. The scents of salt invaded their noses, though it wasn't as strong to Mingan as it would be to the pup - he did live around it after all. "The ocean is near." he explained, also mentioning that they were on pack lands now.

He wasn't certain who would be about at this hour, but he WAS sure that no strangers lurked here. The pack was tight knit, and wolves who didn't belong were soon found and either welcomed into the pack, or highly encouraged to leave the borders quickly.

Kaya followed intently, paying close attention to both her surroundings and the flow of scents swaying through their nostrils. "How large is your pack? Are all of them as friendly as you? Anything I should know of social etiquette or the like?" It would be wise not to play herself off too hastily in the moment. Not to be paranoid, but cautious ones did well much longer than those not so.

The grey one looked over his shoulder at the pup as she spoke, asking questions. He smiled at her curiosity. "They're all very friendly, and my alpha loves all wolves, pups especially." he turned his attention back to the direction they were traveling. "There is not much in the way of etiquette - show respect to the elders is the umbrella rule - and for you? Play and have fun is a pup's duty in this pack."

He pondered a moment at her first question before answering. "It used to be large, with lots of wolves from all over, but it has since withered to being a very family oriented pack - with the alpha's family being the bulk of the membership. Though Loki is always ready and willing to take in wanderers and those down on their luck, even if just for a little while. If they seek shelter, they will find it here for as long as needed."

Umbrella rule? That was a bit of an unusual phrase. No matter. Soon she would find out for herself. "That's good." came her response. And from then foward there would be silence, until their destination. Which, as a matter of fact, didn't seem like it'd be too far off now. Scenery was rapidly changing from one minute to the next, the salty scent escalating up to an overpowering level. Kaya began to think she heard water in the distance. An ocean-side pack, perhaps? That would be more water than she'd ever seen in her life.... At least she wouldn't go thirsty.

Mingan made sure the pup was keeping up, every once in a while, by looking back over his shoulder. He also kept his ears alert for any sound of the pack moving about. Anyone could be anywhere, he mused silently as they made their way towards the Meeting Place - a clearing where every time the moon was heavy and round in the sky, the entire pack met to share any news within or out of the pack.

"There should be at least a few wolves at the Meeting Place." he spoke quietly, not knowing who could be lurking around. It wasn't that anyone was going to attack him, but the elder was still very skittish about everything, and he WAS an omega in this pack, though also gifted with the title of Elder.

"Oh good." The teen gave a sigh of relief. He had definitely heard a voice, but thankfully, it sounded much like his favorite Elder - Mingan. It had been almost a full moon cycle since he had left the pack by himself that night.... and ran into his uncle Maim.

The dark teen headed towards the voice, creeping along carefully so as not to spook the Elder. "Elder." he spoke quietly, only loud enough for the pair to hear. "I have come home." Castor had not yet noticed the pup that walked beside his old friend. He could be a bit distracted sometimes.

He waited for Mingan to acknowledge him, walking a good distance away but parallel to the old wolf, trees separating them. He only caught minimal glimpses of the wolf every so often, and it was usually only the thin boney frame of the Elder's back, and his unusual black ears.
