Kirai had traveled a far distance. Exhausted, she'd finally come upon the beach of what smelled like an ocean. The seawater mater her senses clear up, the rolling of the waves lulling her into relaxation while her muscles burned and her body pleaded for a rest.

Slowly stepping onto the sand, Kirai flinched when her upper body sunk slightly, staring down at the beach as if it was a haven despite the difficulty of walking on the sand.

The she-wolf had been a loner all her life. She'd once run into what she thought to be love--but it had turned into a fling, leaving her with a large amount of pups and no help. Now she sunk back into her bitterness and hatred for other wolves, realizing that it just wasn't meant to be. Kirai was strong, and didn't need company to be happy. Her children had grown up and left, strong and stubborn just like herself, and now she'd lost track of her large brood.

Taking in a deep, relaxing breath, the small wolf collapsed onto the warm sand near one of the rock cliffs parallel to the beach. Her bright fur stood out clearly against the tan sand, but she didn't care. Kirai had never found herself to be afraid of other wolves, despite the fact that she was usually dwarfed by them. This was too nice to give up. And she couldn't smell any other wolves over the salty air...she'd just trust that she wasn't in any danger. Either way, Kirai's ears swiveled and perked at any strange noise that came to her over the sounds of the waves.

The sea. A vast expanse of rich blue color overtook the horizon and the thick smell of salt and fish filled his nostrils with every breath of wind. The sound of the waves crashing relentlessly against the rocky shore was loud in his ears after the silence of traveling alone for so many days.

Weeks? The alpha didn't even know how long he had been moving, traveling. The wanderlust had snuck up on him sometime in the night, and he had bid his mother, his son, his pack a farewell before departing to places only his heart could draw him to, promising to return.

Hopefully soon, mother . . .

Now, Hephaestus gazed out over the ocean, and it was beautiful. Terrifying. He picked his way along the shoreline, rock to rock, dodging waves before they soaked him through. Eventually the rocks gave way to shimmering sand that felt cool and squishy beneath his toes. He started watching the paw prints he left in the sand, somehow entranced by the way the waves instantly washed them away.

So entranced was he, that he didn't notice the irate pelican until he stumbled into it. The thing let out a massive squawk and started clacking it's over-sized bill together, it's mighty wings beating the air. It rushed him and he laughed at it, but dodged and started trotting in circles around it, not afraid of its anger or noise.

The alpha of the Acropolis pack felt alive, but . . . why was he here?

The disruption of the waves lapping over the water is what made her stir. Slowly looking up from her position on the ground, she rolled onto her stomach and stared intently at the brightly colored male before her..he was only a good few paces away, which startled her. She wasn't used to letting other wolves get this close...but he was...chasing a pelican?

Well, not quite chasing, more so taunting and toying with it. Her body slowly relaxed at the knowledge that she had yet to be spotted...or had she? She wasn't 100% sure.

Kirai wrinkled her nose and slowly began to rise up from the sand, her pale gray eyes fixed on the male despite herself. He held himself highly, and was somewhat large--but all wolves were somewhat large in her eyes, being so small in stature herself. A quiet hum left her, and she settled into a sit, watching the antics with a slow grin crawling over her ebony lips.

So free, so careless...if only she could be like that, too.

Hephaestus barked and chased the bird, evading its beak and beating wings. It waddled into the surf, and he dove into the waves, letting the cool water wash over his fur. More agile and faster then him in the water, the irate creature swam out of reach and he laughed, ears pricked, wet tail wagging hard above the water. Turning, his paws dug into the sand and he lept back onto the beach, shaking the sea water from his fur.

Tongue lolling, he turned and suddenly locked gazes with a beautiful little femme standing a few yards from him, staring at him.
