I own it, being a happy Xbox (and 360 as well!) owner. Unfortunately, I actually regret buying the game. It's the only Lovecraft-related purchase that I've felt let down by, really. Sure, it has good graphics for the most part, and it sure does scare the hell out of me, but it's absolutely bland. Rather than capture the cosmic terror and supernatural evils of Lovecraft's works, it simply gets me edgy by placing me in dark places where I can hardly see, and by flashing quick images of dead bodies at me. It's like a crappy slasher film gone terribly, terribly wrong. Actually, I'm sure that if I'd never read anything by Lovecraft, the game wouldn't effect me in the least bit. The only reason it gets me spooked is because I'm used to the idea in Lovecraft's works that I'm completely helpless- The game does capture that much, at least. The first few levels, you're armed with nothing. By nothing, I don't mean 'Oh no, I'm stuck with a board!', I mean zero, zip, zilch and nadda. Of course, you don't encounter any enemies, either, so that sort of makes sense.
Warning- Spoilers, Telltale-Style! Only highlight the following if you don't mind finding out things before playing the game! The first level has you going through the home of a few crazy cultists. That level is just full of the sound of gunshots and creaking, with very little lighting and a few gory scenes where the cultists have poisoned themselves or been shot. In one cinematic, a cultist is wobbling towards you, saying how he was expecting you, when suddenly his head explodes from a shot from the police outside the home (Oh yes, the police sent you in alone. How intelligent.). The rest of the level is just pulling switches and finding rooms. There's one freak-out scene where the PC finds out that the cult has been monitoring his every action. Then, you head downstairs. You end up falling down some broken stairs, then you find the lab of the cultists. You get a chance to electricute the body of someone who the cultists have been disecting (It's rather fun, I think). You end up starting up a strange portal which allows two lovely mythos creatures into the building. Then the hero faints.
The second level begins with a cinematic. In the background, the main character talks about what has happened between the current and the time in the house. It seems that he had been posessed by some sort of other personality until the point where the player starts again. Either that, or he lost his memory. Anyhow, you end up going to Innsmouth (Dun-dun-duuuun!) to investigate some strange happenings. For the first bit of the Innsmouth encounter, you mainly walk about everywhere and get a feeling for everyone's favorite mythos town. There are the usual Innsmouth characters; Zadok Allen, Anna Tilton, and the whole Esoteric Order of Dagon (although the church doesn't open up for a while). My favorite Innsmouth character so far has been old Zadok; his drunken ramblings and odd behaviour can keep you amused for a while before you decide to move on in the level. Eventually, after a long stretch of various Townsfolk turning away from you and generally acting suspicious, you reach the house of the man you are supposed to meet in the town (Ah yes, and this is after breaking into a building and finding some dead things, also having to complete some painstakingly annoying repetetive break-and-enter steps such as pushing a shelf in front of a door then having to find a piece to a trap-door before a fish-like police officer breaks in after you. Of course, once you're found, all you have to do is complete the exact same objectives all over again, with everything in the same places where you had to find it before, with no chance of actually getting arrested). Once at the house of the guy you're to meet, you are greeted by his extremely morbid and disturbing daughter. You end up unleashing a Deep One (Whom the girl refers to as 'Mommy' until it tears her to a pulp) from its prison in the attic. As it pushed back you, the Deep One knocks you out. When you come to, the father of the girl (Holy crap! Does this mean he had sex with a Deep One? eek ) is downstairs, crying over her corpse. Soon enough, some of the usual fish-like police folks come in and take him away, leaving you to get out of there and look for a store. That's about as far as I've gotten.
I haven't played the game for the past few months now. I really wish I hadn't wasted my money on it.

ninja I got it for the PC...It's not ALL that bad really...
Sure, for a large portion of the game so far you get corralled buuut...
You DO have some very nice action scenes, and they actually follow the book rather well after a point. I also like the entire sanity system and how the more damaged you are, it effects your speed/vision. Adds a bit more realism 3nodding
Overall, pretty good game. Could be a bit less "You go here now, end of story!" and the puzzles do get a bit more challenging. The last one had me scratching my head for like 3 minutes, restard to make sure I didn't miss anything, and then go back and finish it xP ninja
And oh yea, for all those wondering...My play time is like 4 hours by now AND I STILL DON'T HAVE A WEAPON...I've gotten SHOT to death SEVERAL times, and thats starting to annoy me...
I HAVE NO WEAPONSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!! >______< Unless I missed something back there >> *shrugs*

You get a lot of weapons eventually, and you get the weapon that the Great Race devoloped (disappointing, because you pick it up, and immediately understand it, like it was crafted for you...).
Unfortunately, I'm close to the end, and I think the disc is corrupted, it keeps freezing at the exact same spot...
