Right. I'm not quite sure if this topic belongs in this subforum, but Heaven was in here, so I suppose Hell would go here too. I've just been doing research on Hell and the Seven Deadly Sins and stuff like that, but I'm rather confused at the moment. Not to mention wondering how I'm going to write this book without offending anyone. There's just so many religions to consider. I'm probably going to end up being hated by everyone, since religion ties so tightly in with the Afterlife. But I think I'm going to focus on Christianity. One half of my family believes in that, even if my other half doesn't believe in anything.

But, my question. I'm not quite sure about Venial Sins and the Seven Deadly Sins, and then the Unforgivable (or Unpardonable) Sin. I mean, what exactly would send somebody to Hell? Wikipedia has definately taught me an awful lot (I know much more than I did before), but I just don't understand some of it. Like, take this quote for instance...

Wikipedia
Venial sins usually remain venial no matter how many one commits. They cannot "add up" to collectively constitute a mortal sin. However, there are cases where repeat offenses may become a grave matter. For instance, if one were to steal small amounts of property from a single person, over time one would have stolen enough that it would become a serious theft from that person.

If it becomes a serious theft, does that mean it counts as one of the Deadly Sins, therefore sending the person to Hell? Because I'm not sure if serious theft would mean that they would actually go to Hell, or just, perhaps, spend a longer time in Purgatory as punishment? And what exactly is Purgatory? I've always thought it was just a dark, dark place and you just, sort of, float around until you're good enough, or bad enough, to go to Heaven or Hell. But I've thought a lot of things and have been way off.

And, how many panes are there in Heaven and Hell? Oh, and if the person absolutely had no other choice other than to steal, would it still count as a Venial Sin?

I don't really know that much. Well, um, help anyone ^-^;; ?

I can't answer everything for I don't know a lot of it. But I'm a strong Christian so in my opinion even some of the deadly sins can be forgiven if you ask for forgiveness or you do not recieve it. You have to seriously want to be forgiven though and truely be sorry for what you did or it doesn't count cause you were lying in hopes to feel like judgement is not upon you, or at least I think that's what happens. I do not know for a fact.

Purgatory as I believe is a place between heaven and hell after you die. The length in which you are there is unknown since little is said about it. It's said to be the place of judgement where one finds out if they go to heaven or hell.

I think morally it is wrong but when given no other choice one has to do what they have to do in order to survive. It counts as a venial sin if it goes unforgiven. Any sins that were not asked for forgiveness on will count against the person in the end and since God cannot stand sin the person who commited the sin will be sent to hell, forever separted from God since that is the final punishment. The longing you search for cannot be cured since you are damned never to see him again.

I don't know about how many panes there are in Heaven and Hell, I think there is just the one. Punishment is punishment and in the end the punishment is the same so there's no need for more then one pane. I could be wrong but that's just my opinion.

Note: These are just my opinions and what I think are correct I do not actually 100% know so no one get offended, please.

Right... so the main character probably would end up going to Hell. Right, thats one problem resolved. And I think I could get around the other problem if he went to Purgatory for a while... for a sort of, uh, second judgement. Though that might just be me being too hopeful for him. I really should come up with simpler ideas.

And thanks Habiku ^-^ ! And nobody really knows exactly what happens when we die, so nobody is exactly 100% about this. Except the dead, of course. We can only speculate and trust our beliefs. But, ah, thank you. Now to get around more problems... ^-^;;

Hey Vaporeae, I believe this thread goes better in the "Underground" sub-forum so if yer ok with it, I shall move it after you reply to my post. 3nodding

I gotta tell ya, it sounds to me that if one does conduct him/herself in a manner like the example you quoted says, the person would go to hell cuz of the accumulated "bad Karma" if you will.

I was born into the Catholic religion but I do not follow it as I should. Therefore, I am no longer religious cuz I don't see a need to follow any one religion over another.

If you want to know how I think of purgatory, here's my view:

I see it as a gray place, neither dark or bright but, just a place where souls try to atone for what wrongs they may have done in a past life. I believe almost anything can be forgiven as long as the soul has truly repented (as habiku said).

And those were my two cents, for anyone who cares... mrgreen
