Aylen found himself wondering if this was the best of ideas as he carried his two children down to the edge of the water. He could hear it, smell it, feel it... but he couldn't see it, at least not in the same manner that most people could, "Don't go to far." He told the two in his arms, the two that he wanted nothing more then to take care of, to keep safe, and he wasn't sure what was lurking out in the water that might bother the pair.
Rangi was the first to escape his father's grasp, diving from his arms to the water with a great splash and he went under instantly and settled down to the sandy bottom before he started in small circles around the area, hands sifting through the sand. Aylen looked slightly worried as he lost the hold of his son before he drew on his power to check on him, peeking at him... then smile when he saw what he was up to. Expected that he would be doing what he was doing but he was surprised that Rangi had set to his treasure hunting to quickly.
Atl gave a shake of her head and then a soft chuckle, "Rangi is certain that he's gonna find treasure." She told her father as he lowered her down and set her in the cool, salty water. She was happy to sink under it for a moment, rolling around, before she surfaced again. She looked over at Aylen who was spreading out a towel just out of the reach of the water but where he could reach his bare feet out to get them wet, "I'll keep an eye on him." She assured her father as she turned in the water to watch the gurnard as he made his circles. Ever since they had seen a show on the discovery channel about this group of men that went searching the world's oceans for ship wrecks and the treasures that went down with them Rangi was determined to take up that hobby.
As such his chatter about how he was going to find treasure brought them here. Despite the fact that his father didn't seem in any way to care about becoming rich Rangi felt differently, he wanted to find treasure which would lead to money which would bring them all sorts of awesome stuff at home. He would find it and his family would profit from his determination and ability to stay under the water for as long as would be needed to find something, "Come on treasure!" He said under the water in a bubbling voice as he moved his hands through the sand to seek out anything that might there. Rock, rock, rock, clam? He looked the shell over before he set to prying it open, peeking inside but much to his disappointment was there was pearl... so he gave it a toss before continueing on his way.

Aylen had chosen, at least, a rather safe area of water to go into, being the bay Mer Co was nestled on.
Within the company grounds across the way from the local beach, Tom Coronet, director of education, was working hard at "ultra exciting" paperwork things. He left the watching of his squishy son Alex to some of the marine staff outside...who were letting him swim freely in the bay. "Don't even think of getting near the mouth of the bay, Alex," they'd said.
He was doing as he was told, and was looking to see if there was anything new on the bottom today, when he noticed there were some other little people in the water, and they were mers too! He was always happy to see those.
It took him a few minutes to get over there, but he arrived by coming up over a pretty big rock by a brown spotted boy. "Hiya!" he said suddenly, after his silent glide over, still having very little understanding of how to best approach people. "Whatcha find?"

The gurnard paused for a moment in what he was doing, pausing in kicking up the sand at the bottom of the water before his full attention was turned toward the other boy. He starred at him for a long moment before his eyes went a little wide, "Hey... hey! Cool, your a less colorful sluggy thing!" He said in an excited manner, swimming forward and did a couple circles around Alex as he inspected him closely. After his circling he reached a hand out to poke at the boy and grinned, "You feel just like her too."
He wasn't exactly one that understood personal space from the looks of him and the way he was acting around Alex. Then again given he was always carried away by his Father and always playing around with his sister maybe he'd never learned about it.

Alex watched the boy curiously as he circled around. When he was touched, Alex reached out and took a hold of the boy's hand with both of his, and felt his arm. "Oh," he said smiling slightly. "And you feel kinda like some of the other fishy kids I met!"
He loosened his grip, but moved a hand along the 'wing' looking things the boy had. "And can you fly?" he asked curiously. "That must be neat, to swim around in the air..." Right about then, he remembered what he'd been told about meeting new people, and so let go and said, "Oh, my name's Alex! Who're you?" That wasn't quite what he'd been told he should say, but it was close...

Rangi only slowed down when the other kid caught hold of his wrist and he seemed to sink down to resting next to him on the sand. He gave a little smile as he looked him over. He looked a bit like a pearl he thought to himself before he gave a chuckle, shaking his head, "I've tried but I only seem to make a lot of water go every where." He explained having found his few attempts at 'flight' to be better for splashing Aylen then anything else.
"Alex, my name is Rangi St. Claire, it is very nice to meet you." He said, making the greeting slightly rehearsed as though the one who had taught it to him wanted to say something very specific, "Sp your a sluggy too? You should meet Atl!" He caught hold of his new friend's hands, seeming to have no idea what personal space was as he started to move again, hoping to pull Alex over to where the rainbow color slug was playing in the wet sand just outside of the water.

(Two kids with a total disregard for personal space. rofl What a combination.)
"Ohh...I haven't met any other sluggies yet," Alex answered with a grin, and allowed himself to be dragged through the water. Really, if anyone was willing to pull him through the water faster than he could move, he was always happy to have them do it.
At the edge of the water, he caught a glimpse of Atl. "Oh, neat colors," he mumbled, and wondered idly if her skin tasted like his did. He also remembered again that Tom had told him not to do that anymore.

Rangi looked up out of the water as they arrived and gave a grin as Alex went to meet Atl. He watched the pair before giving, it was rather neat to see two of the squishy slugs together in one area. He gave a flick of his fins to move forward so that he was partially out of the water, "See what I found, Atl!" He said in an excited manner, pleased that he'd finally found something more interesting then shells during one of his dives.
The brightly colored slug abandoned what she was doing to turn and look first at Rangi, who seemed so proud of himself, then to the new comer and her eyes went a bit wide. Wow... the first thought to come to her head and seemingly for a moment the only one. Hey... he kind of looked like she did, only he was a different color and had more then just one do-dad decoration on him. She was still for a moment before slowly moving closer to him, looking him over closely, "Ahh... hello, I'm Atl." She murmured.

"Hiya, Atl," Alex replied happily, wriggling up through the sand. He'd figured out, by now, how to move effectively above the water, but the sand felt nice when he just sorta dragged through it, so that's what he did. "I'm Alex! You're a newbie-branch too, right?" He didn't always say "nudibranch" correctly...that much was apparent. But he tried.
As he slid along, he paused because something poked him. He scooped up a rather good-sized shark's tooth from the sand under him, and held it up triumphantly.

Alt blinked then titled her head to the side, looking thoughtful for a moment before she nodded her head, "Yes, I am one of those." She murmured, wondering if that was how that word was pronounced. She'd heard Aylen say it a couple of times but he seemed to double guess himself on the way the word sounded. Alex must be right since it was what they were after all. She gave a bit of a smile, "Its nice to meet you and not just cause we are both sluggies." She told him.
Rangi's eyes got huge and he pulled himself closer, looking over the treasure that his new friend had found before a gasp escaped him, "Woah! Lucky!" He chirp, his tail lashing behind him rapidly in the shallow in excitement over seeing what the white sluggy had found. Oh but that was cool! He was a fun, special treasure like that too!

Alex watched Rangi's reaction curiously, with an expression that could only be described as "bemused." After a couple of seconds, he asked, "You like finding these?" he held up the tooth. It was a well-formed tigershark tooth. Good size, too. "You can fine 'em outside the bay better than in here," he explained, "But I'm not allowed out there alone..."
He held his hand, with the tooth in his little white palm, out to Rangi. "You can keep it," he told the fish with a smile. "I have anudder one."

There was a happy squealing sound from the boy as he took the tooth, looking it over, "Oh! This is awesome!" He said, grinning at Alex, "Oh! You are my favorite white sluggy that I have ever met!" He told him, scooting closer so he could give his friend a tight, excited sort of hug, "Thank you!"
He turned to look at his sister and held the tooth out for her to see, "Check it out, Atl! A big tooth! Imagine the monster shark this came from? I bet it could swallow us all whole in one bite!" It was a bit of an exaggeration he was sure but things always sound better when made dramatic if you asked him.
Atl looked it over before she gave a smile, "Thank you, Alex, for being so kind to Rangi." She murmured.

"Oh, I have a lot of them," Alex replied practically. "My house is over there," he pointed out into the bay where there was a well-kept sailboat of about 50 feet anchored. It was dark, as there was no one on board, but a little wind generator was spinning quietly on the stern. "So I get lots of chances to find 'em," he concluded with a grin and a nod.
He looked around, as if expecting to see something. "Where do you live?" Although he didn't actually see any of the other kids of Mer Co constantly, he always assumed they lived right here like he did. Never occurred to him to ask Tom where they all lived. The water's a big place, after all.
As he asked his question, Alex pulled himself right up next to Atl, and felt her arm curiously, running a finger down the side of it, then repeating the action on his own arm before giving a small satisfied nod--he'd been right about something.

Atl and Rangi both turned to look toward the sailboat that Alex had pointed out and their eyes went quite wide as they looked it over, "Ooooh! Woah!" Rangi was of course the first one to comment and seemed to be quite taken by the idea of getting to live out on a boat in such a manner. He looked over to Alex, "That is such a cool place to live!"
The slug girl nodded in agreement, "It must be nice." She murmured, wondering what it was like to live in a house that floated on the top of the water like that. A house that moved and rocked with the waves, it must feel nice.
Upon being asked where they lived the two pointed over at Aylen who was sitting at the water's edge, eyes closed, seeming to be listening to everything around him, "With him." Both of the kids said in unison.
"In a place not to far from here since he carried us here." Rangi explained.

"Oh," Alex replied, tilting his head to the side a bit. "You don't live on the water, too? I thought..." He thought everybody did. Silly notion, of course, but what do you expect from someone who lives on a boat with a guy who works for a marine research company? "I've only been too far away from the water to see it a few times," he said instead.
Alex suddenly grew curious about the man listening to them, and so quickly scooted his way over. "Hiya!" he greeted cheerfully, and promptly reached out to feel the man's arm...curiosity always trumped the past admonitions about touching people without asking.

"Not on the water, we have a tub and a small pool though." Rangi said in a helpful manner, those were the two places they were allowed to splash around in, "We have a double sink in the kitchen but we aren't supposed to swim in that, its for the dishes to swim in." He explained away.
Atl gave a little sighing sound as Rangi gave out for information then was likely needed by Alex, "We enjoy coming back to the water like this to swim, so maybe we will see each other a lot." She told him with a smile.
It was a strange thing, Aylen was waiting there with closed eyes but even as the other boy reached out and toughed him he didn't jump in any manner, as though he knew Alex was approaching even with his eyes closed, "Hello there." He greeted the boy, giving a gentle smile before he opened up pretty, if hazy, lavender eyes, "You are Alex, yes?"
