I posted a thing on facebook about how I did not want to vote for Palin.

And some girl sent me a note with one word in it.
Lesbo!

Really, I state my democratic views and am declared a lesbian for it? It's not like I hate republicans or anything, but man, it's people like this chick that just ruin the viewpoint for me.

And you know, she could've done so much better. Really, was that supposed to be an offense? The fact that one can call me a lesbian and deem it an insult is... well... less insulting to me and more to those who are offended that it's considered an insult.

So now i shall patiently wait for her to comment to my ever so sarcastic reply (although i may send another message explaining sarcasm)

Should i report her, guys? Because really, an attempt at a personal attack on my viewpoints is kind of pushing it, don't you think?

[EDITED]

I'm sorry if any of this offends anyone but I am going to state my opinion and If I am wrong about anything or you would like to make an interesting rebuttal just say so...

I would also like to state that I'm not against her because she is a woman, nor am I sexist. If it were a guy I would have the same problems with him if he did the same things she did.

[RANT]

I feel that Palin was a horrible choise for a VP. If John McCain died during his presidency the U.S would have had to have her run the country.

One of many reasons why I'm not a big fan of her:

SHE COULD NOT FIND RUSSIA ON A GODDAMN MAP!!! SHE WAS THE GOVERNER OF ALASKA, YOU KNOW, IT KINDA WAS A PART OF THE RUSSIAN EMPIRE TILL THE U.S BOUGHT IT FROM THEM IN 1867 FOR OVER 7 MILLION DOLLERS!!!!! (I know this and I'm not even american...)

Man, I don't hate republicans. Honestly I don't, many of my friends are or would be considered republicans.

I feel that she would not have been prepared to run an entire country, let one of the most powerful countries in the world. She was the governor of a state with less then 1 million people in it.

When she was running to be Governor of Alaska in 2006, she was all for building what the rest of country saw as the "Bridge to Nowhere". The bridge was supposed to connect mainland Alaska to Gravina Island where there was an airport. She said that calling it the "Bridge to Nowhere" was insulting to the residents nearby, and tried to speed up the process to get it built. Then when she got into office what did she go do? She canceled the Gravina Island Bridge in September 2007 and said to congress "Thanks but no thanks to the bridge going nowhere". The money allocated to building the bridge, all 422 million dollars, were never returned. Don't forget that in 2008, Alaska was still the largest per-capita recipient of federal earmarks. In a two year period the state requested nearly $750 million in special federal spending.

How can you trust a person (man or woman) to help run a country like the US when they only have 2 years worth of experience and it was running a state with less then 700,000 people in it, and one that relies heavily on government funding to stay afloat?

Just so that this post does not go out of control, I'm going to state now that i'm in a very deep debate with a girl atm over the political stuff, and i think i've had a slight epiphany with talking to her.

This is not a palin attack, it's the fact that both sides need to open their eyes to the whole concept that change is happening and that change HAS to happen. It has to happen in Canada too, but our government isn't nearly as exciting as the states atm.
It's the fact that i've had to deal with idiotic leaders my entire life and now what some change is happening in the states, i'm kind of leaning over there because i want it to happen to us too.

(harper is an idiot. Nuff said)

I believe the main point of this conversation is the fact that people should be able to state their beliefs without being attacked by others for them. You shouldn't be attacked for your political views, your sexual preferences, your ethnicity, colour, etc. We live in free countries after all, right?
So when i thought i could get into a serious debate and was attacked for it, I don't like the fact that people are so hypocritical. I want the fighting to stop on both sides and i want the hype to die down.

I don't like Palin either. DX I could list many, many reasons why I don't like her, including her opinion to not teach safe sex in school, that it should be taught at home, while her teenage daughter was pregnant. Just a slight hypocrisy in there.

But really, Seddy, you shouldn't be insulted at all. In fact, that girl insulted herself more than anything else. While I have many liberal views, I do not call myself a Democrat, and I do have a fair amount of conservative views too (mostly when it comes to criminals and such), but Republicans definitely have a stereotype for being stupid. I try really hard not to hold prejudices, but that girl is really not helping the stereotype of her opinions. -__-;;

Besides, I'd much rather be a lesbo than a closed-minded idiot. 3nodding

I edited my above post to remove some rather bad wording and to expand on reasons why I feel that she was a bad choice.

it wasn't so much the whole thing of her calling me a lesbo that bugged me. It was the fact that it was the only thing she could come up with to go against my views. I take no offense to being called a lesbian. ^^;
The sad part is that the woman is like... 30 or so and attacked me like a child. I have her picture and her list of friends and all that. XD;

people argue about the stupidest of things, and come up with the stupidest of arguments when they feel threatened or can't fight back. which, sadly, degrades to petty insults :/ i know because i've honestly been on both sides of that coin <.<

the thing about free speech...it's a double-edged sword. you have the right to express your opinion on a manner, and unfortuntely the people who reply to you (no matter how intelligent the answer may be) have the right to give their opinion about you and what you said. evidently, more often than not, it's not going to be very nice. but theeeeen you have laws/rules that allow you to shout "abuse/troll/harrassment!" and get them punished rofl

i stay out of politics. throughout my life, all i've gotten is complaint after complaint about how one government or another does something wrong (with varying degrees of such), and people get into really bad fights over them. so i don't have an opinion. when i became voting age, i didn't care (and yet an election was called the fall after i turned 18 >.<), and i still don't. people get angry and frustrated at me saying "how can you make a change if you don't vote/care!", and while they do have a point, i'm just sick of it neutral people are going to get angry and the government's probably gonna screw up anyway. if things change whoo-hoo, good for them. i'll adapt to those changes if need be.

i think my neutral stance on this is better than getting stuck in a pointless argument where people are just going to end up hurting each other (physically or emotionally).

...apparently i'm feeling nihilistic today D:

Politics and religion are two things I don't bother debating. No one ever wins!
Has anyone here had a debate with someone on those subjects and had the other person say "Hey, you know what, you're right!" it just never happens! If someone trys to argue about those subjects I just ignore them.

I think that if you don't want to get into politics, you have a right not to. What REALLY annoys me is when people are always complaining about politics, such as "I hate that one politician" or "That one bill should have been passed," but they don't vote (not counting if you're not of voting age).

I dislike debates a lot, for the same reasons Taran mentioned. In my opinion, a debate is nothing more than a fancy name for an argument. I do, however, enjoy political/religious discussions. For instance, I do not have a stance on things like abortion or medical marijuana, so I don't mind discussing with people about the pros and cons of issues such as though. It's when I feel strongly about a subject, and someone else feels strongly about the other side of the subject, that things turn nasty.

Thank you guys for being mature about the current topic at hand, and for keeping anything hurtful under control 3nodding Man, I haven't seen a serious political thread like this in a while, a mature one anyway without a bunch of people being all kidish about it.

In all honesty, I didn't even vote because I didn't like either parties, both presidential and vice presidential. Like you all, I have my own reasons for not choosing either party, let alone not even voting.

Not to get too out of context, that girl who called you a lesbo needs to grow up. Good grief, if that's how she is going to go against palin-dislikers than how is she going to act in different situations. Good grief.

yeah, even before i was voting age, one of my friends was like "why don't you want to vote?!" and when i said that they're going to screw up anyway "you don't have a right to be angry at something you didn't vote for in the first place!" and all whiny and stuff. it annoyed the hell outta me because it wasn't my opinion i was basing that statement on since i had (and still have) a neutral stance. it was a perspective i developed over the years in that no one seemed pleased with anything. so i gave up. they screw up, they screw up; they do something good, they do something good. hence why i don't keep up with the latest politics.
the only law i want passed is the one to ban cellphones and similar devices when driving. it's a dangerous thing that needs to be dealt with. i'm nervous enough on the road; i don't need the added worry about whether or not other people are paying attention.

i agree, i don't mind discussions where people are willing to be patient and understand other sides of the argument. sadly, it does happen very often neutral religion interests me for knowledge sake (i like learning about religions, but i have no interest in outright practicing them for the most part), but it's how uptight and defensive people can get about it that turns me off. unfortunately, not having a religion is considered bad in itself. so it is essentially impossible to remain neutral in this case -.-

That is actually already illegal here in California, or at least talking on the phone. I still see people talking on their phones while driving, however. >_< They'll also be making texting while driving illegal too, but I find it ridiculous that anyone would do that. I mean, talking on the phone is one thing, but most people have to look at the phone in order to text, which is extremely dangerous to do while driving.

I also agree with that. It's rare to find someone who will debate about their religion without getting upset. But it's hard to have a polite conversation about it unless you are already on the same side. For instance, there are people who will get really mad if you question God, even a little bit. But on the other hand, there are people who don't believe in God and will insult anyone who does. I think that in order to fully believe in your religion, whatever it may be, you have to question it first, but if you are not religious you have to also understand why people do enjoy religions.

one of my favourite debates was the one about letting Immigrants into canada.

One girl in my class said she didn't believe that we should let them in because they take all the jobs and yadda yadda yadda. As a retort, i pointed out that SHE was an immigrant. She always boasts about being born in england. It certainly shut her up :3
