ok...i have a friend who's studying mormonism to try to disprove us...and he's got one question and i know the answer but i can't put it into words....ah well the question is this " If god is all powerfull, loves EVERYONE and has the power to save everyone...then why does he not save them all?why does he chose to let people go to hell?" so if you nice ppl out there could help me word the answer to this, you'd be greatly loved biggrin

A friend of mine actually answered this question with a nice story on M&R. Check out Kardak's journal for the story and the explanations((framkly, can't remember everything she said, but it was a really good story)) I think it's her first journal entry to.

He lets people go to hell because they have it coming. think of it this way. all our lives as spirits (yet unborn) He loves us infinitely. when we are old enough and can't grow any more in heaven, He sends us to earth to grow even more, and He also sends us here as a test of our loyalty/love of Him. if we reject Him and spit on His name and say mean things about Him and join His opposing force (evil, aka, satan), well, i'm sorry, but you got your chance. if you're that BAD of a person, after He loved you so much, you deserve to burn in the outer darkness forever more. 3nodding

The one and only answer to this is simply two words.
FREE AGENCY.
We had it in heaven, and because of it we had a war.
thoes who followed god, and christ came to earth to prove they would continue to do so.
He allowes all the bad things to happen because he will NEVER take away our FREE AGENCY.

Exactly, I agree with Shaely. It's all about free agency.
Heavenly father sent us here to get bodies, so we could have the oppertunity to become like him. He also gave us rules and guide lines to follow that would help us on the way to become like him. If we choose to follow them, we are able to get back to him, and live with him, and become joint heirs with christ. If we dont, then we go to lesser glories, not necicarily to outer darkness, that's mostly for the people who rejected him in the first place.
He loves us all equally, but sometimes we do things to hurt him, but he lets us do what we will, giving us our agency. This is also why bad things happen to good people and good things happen to bad people, and so on.

Only those who commit the unpardonable sin go to "Hell". The rest of us go to paradise. Joseph Smith saw a vision of the lowest kingdom, and said that if it were possible for mortals to see what it was like, they would kills themselves to get there sooner.
The Agency thing is also good to bring up, along with the fact that if people don't know about the gospel, then they have a chance after death to accept it. Temple work for the dead. That helps a lot.
God has to obey a certain set of rules, or else He ouwld cease to be God. No unclean thing can enter into His kingdom, so even though He loves us, if we are unclean, we cannot enter into His kingdom, because those are the rules. He didn't make them up.l

hmmm, good question. Its free agency. He loves us so much that he didn't want to run our lives. He wants us to choose right from wrong. He wants us to be able to be the best we can. If we do that, He will make up the rest with the attonment if we let him. We're here to learn. If He did everything for us and made it all really easy, what would be the point of us coming down here?

It all boils down to free agency.
God gave us the trails in our lives to see who would return to him despite troubles.
To save us all would defeat the purpose of coming to this earth.
Also, please don't call it Mormonism, we are the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, the prophet has asked us to call ourselves that. If anything please say something like...
"My friend is studying the church to disprove us..."
rather than...
"My friend is studying Mormonism to disprove us..."
If your so called friend keeps bugging you, send him my way...
