The creaking of the ship she had been on still rounded her memory, the screams of humans as they fought to keep the ship together, but it was a lost cause. She remembered the boards shattering, splintering everywhere to let water gush into the hull. Other holding pens flooded before it reached hers. Other Kirin, many human born panicked, pulling at their bonds trying to get free. Hell, she did too as the icy water lapped about her ankles. Sauda had reared high, thrashing about before her ropes snapped and she was free. But free to go where?
The rest was awash, Sauda remembered struggling against the waves that thrashed about. Most plunging her head deep under it's salty currents, dragging her farther away from what she remembered. Far from the humans that had always given her what she wanted, Blood red eyes peered through the water as she dragged herself onto the sandy shores. Where was she now? This land wasn't familiar to her, it was almost alien. Peering at the tall trees that loomed over head, oh she didn't much like the looks of those. Well she wouldn't if she weren't so tired. Sauda didn't take more then two steps until the ground rose to meet her and she collapsed. Sleep enfolded itself around the dark brown and black mare, at least here she would be safe, or at least safer.

Dawn came, the bright sun shown hot upon the white sand that laid about the beach. Sauda's eyes closed themselves tightly to block out the harshness, it was times like this she missed the darkness of her own home. A seabirds call from over head, pried Sauda's lids open to look up, what was that thing? She had never heard anything like it before, well, not before she were taken. Another cry, this one annoyed her. Scrambling to her feet, Sauda gace a cracked cry of her own to scare the gathering creatures away. Cutting herself short she glanced around the wood littered beach, were these the remains of the boat she was on? There wasn't much left of it, that was for sure.
Walking carefully over towards the boards and rigging, she looking it over carefully. Truly, that storm was horrid to say the least, looking back out to sea, she couldn't even get a visual of home. Was she THAT far away? Standing at the edge of the waters, a forlorn look upon her features, Sauda was thinking she wasn't ever going to return home, not now, not ever. A soft, warm breeze drifted over the salty water it teased at Sauda's mane causing her to turn her head away. When she did, sh noticed her sacrificial cloth, it hadn't been lost after all! Scrambling over planks and what seemed to be the remains of a mast she picked up the fabric and held it close. No way was she losing that, again. All at once she remembered the beads and fangs that were hung about her neck. Glancing down, they too were still there. All was complete, or so she would like to have thought.
The annoying cries of the seabirds rattled her nerves and Sauda snorted at them. Why were they so annoying? Back home, the humans would have killed them and used what they could. Her mantel in hold, she headed towards the dark trees, only there she could escape the blistering sun and find more about the new land she had come to on. Also, she might also find others that were shipwrecked...

There was more then just the drive to get away from the beach, the noise and the light. She was hungry, very hungry she had to find something in this place that was edible. At first she had thought of eating the fabric that was still held tightly within her teeth. Nah, she didn't think it would be fery easy to digest, she would have to find something else. Weaving through the trees they seemed to get thicker the deeper she went. The smells of must air and decaying leaves wafted into the air around her. It smelt heavenly to Sauda, it so reminded her of home. Perhaps she had made it back after all? Oh she so hoped so, with spirits high, Sauda took a couple more turns and came to a marsh... Wait... That couldn't be right, this wasn't home.
Dipping her head down some, Sauda tossed her head to drape the fabric over a low hanging branch. A frown creased her lips as she looked around. It smelt like home, void of the humans that cared for her, the beasts that had served to feed her. A rumble of her stomach signaled that she needed to eat and soon, head turning from side to side. Sauda didn't see much of anything, besides swamp, trees and small creatures that couldn't amount to anything. With a hateful sigh, she stepped over to a small bush that looked like it was on its last leg of life and tore some leaves off the spindly branches. The prickly leaves stung at her tongue and sides of her mouth. As much as Sauda wanted to just spit them out, she was too hungry to other wise.
"This place is the pits." Sauda huffed grabbing another mouthful of leaves. "But this will be home, sweet home." Having eaten the most she could stand, Sauda recovered the fabric and stubbornly placed it back onto her back. There, it was back where it belonged, Sauda wished she were back where she belonged, but Sauda couldn't go back. "Now to explore this new home. It certainly made her feel better then the beach, for that she was grateful.

It was over the next few days did Sauda finally start to settle into her new home. Traveling farther into the marsh, though the mud did stick annoyingly to her hooves, that was something she could live with. Could have been worse, much worse. Within that time, she had found many beasts that lived in the marsh that lived there. Sauda had traveled far into the darkness of the forest, coming across bones and skeletons laying about. Some buried in the ground, others laying with still flesh attached to the bones. Many were piled into heaps for some strange reasoning.
Picking through a couple of the piles, Sauda found a strange looking skull. It was bleached white like it had been out in the sun far too long, the lower jaw had become missing. Not that it mattered to her, peering at the horns that were still planted firmly in place, she smiled. Perfect! It would make getting blood easier then biting. A wound from one or both horns would make the blood come faster and fuller. Nipping at the skull a bit, she moved it over to a tree and knocked it up against the rough bark. Sauda looked the inside of the skull over, it would do, well cleaned out and space enough, or so she thought.
Lowering her head again, she shoved it into the skull and pulled back, thinking she could just slip from the skull, nope. It was planted firmly on her own skull, flinching a little Sauda now felt that this might have been a bad idea. Then again... She took a swipe at the tree before her, the horns scraped off the bark easily. Maybe I can get used to this. Sauda thought as she shook her head, the skull remaining where it was. At least now no one would know that she was without a 'natural' horn.
Sauda turned away from the tree, back to the marsh she had come to call home. It was here, her life would begin anew. And she was going to have one 'hell' of a time doing it.
