They're awesome. Totally.
So, the story here is that I went to the beach to save turtles. On a school trip. It counts as part of my final grade if I want it to, so yeah, AWESOME, because I got to travel, have a grade, AND see turtles. Besides that, we did some other stuff.
Semi-quick recap:
Thursday, August 27 '09, 07:30 pm: We left on a 12-hour trip to our destination, a state beside the Gulf of Mexico. It's about 800-1000 km away, I can't remember exactly.
Friday, August 28 '09, 8:00 am: Arrived at the hotel, a bit late. 5 persons per dorm (4 in mine), 3 toilets and 3 showers for the 20-ish girls, cold water in showers. But it was still fun.
Friday, August 28 '09, 9:00 am: After breakfast, we went through the woods 1 km to get to a bus that would take us to a river. There, we did rafting, and I have no idea how long it took us. But w/e, it was fun. I got to swim under a waterfall. But I got a cramp on my left foot. And on my left leg. And on my right leg. But it was all right because of the lifejacket. smile
Also, I had no idea I'd like rafting so much.
Friday, August 28 '09, 4:00 pm: Back at the hotel, we did... zip-lining? I'm making up the term here, so bear with me. Some girls (and a guy) also did reverse zip-lining in which they'd be suspended from their backs and looked like they were flying like Superman.
Then it started raining lots and we had to stop, but some people went on even though it was dangerous. We went back to our rooms soaked to the bones.
Friday, August 28 '09, 9:00 pm We sat around the campfire and sang some songs. I discovered I know old fashioned songs better than my teachers...
We slept from 11:00 pm to 6:00 am, had to pack again, have breakfast, and leave the hotel. Dunno about exact hours for that.
Saturday, August 29 '09, 12:00 pm: We gave a conference downtown about environmental topics and taught people about reusing.
Needed a hat from my suitcase, wanted to take it out, didn't find it, and as I was standing up I hit my head HARD because I was aparently not completely outside of where all the luggage was. So I felt dizzy. Then I had to sit in front of speakers my size, below the 100° heat, in an extremely humid weather, with a jacked over my arms to avoid sunburns because I didn't have time to use sunblock...so yeah, at some point (lol less than 10 minutes), I stood up about to cry to avoid being in front of the speakers, the teachers immediately went insane and told me to sit down inside of the building and brought me water... I wonder if I really looked that sick.
K, so later we did posters and did knitting with plastic bags and bracelets and stuff, and left again.
Saturday, August 29'09, 4:00 pm: Arrived at the turtle-protection place. Left our luggage, went down to the beach, walked 2 km to see how the river ended at the sea. It's awesome to see completely unpopulated beaches, BTW.
Saturday, August 29 '09, 7:00 pm: Had a small talk about turtles. Discovered how dangerous it is to take care of them... because people are insane. We had dinner and were told to rest 'till 11:30 when we would go down to the beach again to walk 17 km (plus same amount on our way back). I was really, really thirsty so I had two and a half liters of Gatorade and a cup of chocolate milk. ...I literally started jumping around instead of walking. One, I was excited, two, I rarely have Gatorade and I didn't know it could have such a strong effect on me.
Saturday, August 29 '09, 11:30 pm: Went down to the beach to look for turtles laying eggs. Walked 3 km, found nothing, the wimps some girls started feeling sick so we went back. cry
So two girls fainted, another was close to hallucinating and could not look at light, and I think there were two other girls throwing up. So yeah, absolute failure.
I've no idea how long we slept, but we woke up at 9:00 am.
Sunday, August 30 '09, 9:30 am: We took baby turtles to the sea. C: It was awesome, though I know very few of them will make it. I wish for at least one of the 200 turtles will survive and come back to that place one day in some years.
We also helped some turtles come out of their...nest? I wonder what the term is. So that was awesome, and we cheered them on their way to the sea (about 20 meters away. It took them quite a while to go that far, as they were so tiny and they're not exactly made for moving in sand).
Sunday, August 30, 11:00 am: Started way back. We were supposed to go to some pyramid, but we were short in time, so we didn't and had to stop at 7-11s to buy junk food so we wouldn't die of hunger on our way back.
On our way back, some girls made a song about how we didn't get to go to the pyramid, about how our bus felt like a hospital because of the sick/injured people, on how we payed so much to have a bus with water leaks...yeah, I couldn't sleep at all on the 12 hours back.
Monday, August 31 '09, 1:00 am: Arrived back home.
And now I'm here, sleepy, overloaded with projects due tomorrow worth an enormous portion on my grade, and doing this instead of that because I'm uninspired.
But I'm happy.

That sounds like a fun trip. ^__^ Did you get any adorable turtle photos?

I forgot my camera and realized midway through the trip, so no. But some friends did and they'll send me the pics. ^^
And the teachers decided my hands are adorable so they made me hold turtles so they could take pictures. sweatdrop
