The spotted brown and white kirin walked the perimeter of the small herd of young males grazing amongst the trees. He could tell from the bareness of the lower branches that other kirin had grazed here not too long ago. He paused now and then to sniff the air. The evening breeze brought the scent of a another herd nearby.
Scout turned his head towards his own small group, his dark mane falling across his white shoulders. He still wondered how he, a loner, had managed to pick up the few young male followers. He hadn't planned for it to happen. He rather liked being alone. He sometimes missed his lone roaming days, but.. they needed him and he stayed to watch over them.
Scout turned his attention back to the scent of the other herd. Scout wondered if the Lead Stallion was friendly to visitors.

Cocoa was grazing by a small stream, her ears were perked up and listening to all around her. She lifted her head up for a second and then moved to the stream and took a long drink from the cool flowing waters.

Remembering the last unfortunate run-in with a herd leader, Scout decided to avoid contact with the nearby herd. Pausing, his white tipped ears picked up the sound of trickling water. A cool drink sounded like just the thing to soothe his restless thoughts.
A silver gray Norora skittered to a stop by Scout's leg, looking up at him questioningly. Light filtering through the branches lit the prismatic colors on it's coat. Bemused, Scout looked down at the plated saurian. "There you are, Prism, " said Scout. The saurian warbled back. "Come, little one, let's go find the stream."

After her long drink from the cold stream waters Cocoa decided to put her front hooves in it. She shivered at first as the cold water hit her flesh but after she got used to it she decided to put the rest of her hooves in. She splashed about for a bit before one of her hooves hit a rock and she lost her footing falling flat on her stomach in the middle of the small stream.

Prism found the stream first. Happily enjoying a long drink, a splash down stream sent the saurian scurrying back to Scout as he stepped out of the underbrush. Glancing in the direction of the disruption, Scout saw a brown kirin laying in the water.
It seemed a bit late in the day to be taking a bath in the cold stream. The setting sun wouldn't be up long enough for the kirin to dry off properly, he thought. Maybe she hadn't meant to lay down in the stream. Scout decided to see if she needed help.
He walked along the bank to where she could hear him. "Hello there," he said loud enough to get her attention, but still low enough to not attract any other kirin that might be around. "Do you need any help?"

When he spoke her ears flicked in his direction, the sudden voice startled her bit. She titled her head in his direction, "Help Cocoa no," She replied back giggling softly. She pushed herself up back onto her hooves and shook herself, flinging water in ever which way. "Fine see?" she grinned his way

Scout grinned in spite of himself when she giggled. She seemed to be having fun despite the coldness of the water. He ducked his head to avoid the spray of water when she shook.
"Yes, I see," he replied with a slight grin. "Are you from around here?"

"Yes!" She replied happily, and then tilted her head in the way she had come to the stream. "Way, that." She moved out of the stream and shook herself off once more before heading towards the brush. "Follow"

Scout's interest was piqued by a mare of little words. He still wasn't sure that she didn't need some help, so he followed the brown mare with the spotted rump. With a backward glance, he made sure Prism was following and didn't get lost.

Cocoa lead the way to the place where she had slept the night before, as well as the spot where she currently called home. "Here" She said as she bounded around the matted grass of the clearing.

Stopping just outside the clearing, Scout glanced around the area that appeared to have been used by the mare to sleep in for more than one night.
"Do you live here? Alone?" Scout hadn't expected to find the bouncy little mare to be herdless.

A small goofy little grin came across her face. "Alone, but not alone," She replied. Yes she was alone but then there were all the other creatures of the forest who where there as well. So in truth she never really considered herself to be alone. She continued to bound around her little bed when she tripped over nothing falling flat on her face. Giggling at the fact that she fell she began to push herself back to her hooves once more, obvious it was common thing for the mare.

From what Scout could see, Cocoa lived here alone. He didn't see any signs of other kirin being here, so he was a little confused by her comment of 'not alone'. He was about to ask the bounding mare what she meant when she unceremoniously tumbled to the ground. He was immediately concerned that she'd hurt herself, but before he could step forward and ask, she got back up, giggling at herself.
"When I first saw you in the stream, it looked like you'd fallen. Do you do that very often," he asked, trying not to let the mirth he was feeling come through in his voice. He did think it was a bit funny that she didn't seem to mind falling down.

"Yes, all time, even little," She replied back with a goofy looking grin across her face. "No matter, fun!" She shook her head shaking the grass and leaves out of the ends of her mane. "You try?"

A snort of laughter escaped him before he could catch himself. "I'm afraid I'm not as practiced at it as you seem to be," he said gently. "I might hurt myself."
Scout was beginning to wonder if living alone had been her choice. Maybe her herd had purposely left her behind. Well, he decided, if she wanted company, he wouldn't abandon her.
