It was a hot afternoon, made all the more hot after a long trek out in the barrens. Although there were plenty who might suggest that Vlam, among other things, was something of a buffoon- he took his job and his training seriously. After all- everyone knew longtime captain of the military would be retiring soon; and Vlam was prime to make sure his efforts towards the position be known. Lowly, the young male chuckled as he settled down on an outcropping of rocks, not far from where he denned. After all- who else would be good for it? Serafina? Hah! It was practically in his paws.
A small gust of wind kicked up some sand into the air. A welcome relief- but, he couldn't help but feel just a tad antsy. Work was over! And where was all the life? His nose crinkled. After that whole murder business, it seemed like everyone was keeping on the down low. Bunch of pansies, that's what they were.
Although a bit miffed at lacking an entourage for the afternoon, Vlam reclined backwards. Well, if there wasn't about to be any sort of interest this afternoon, he'd have to stir some up himself.
If... he could find anyone, that is.

Siri'wasii was a creature who almost always desired to have attention on her. It was in her nature to flirt almost shamelessly with any attractive male, even when she was mated to Epesi. Recently, the behavior seemed to have been shoved aside, the red lioness instead grieving for the mate that she had never really loved. He had meant something to her, and that had been enough to make her miss him to a degree. But, for only so long would his death drag her down. She felt that small tug of yearning, wanting to socialize, wanting to see new faces and be her usual playful self.
She'd been wandering about the Firekin lands seemingly aimlessly, her coat lightly covered with dust that would take forever to get out. Silently, she supposed she could have hung out with Tepe some, but she was still avoiding the company of the band she had came to the Firekin lands with. It hadn't been made quite obvious that she was avoiding them, but if she could, she would.
It only took her a little while to notice someone else, someone who sparked off the thought of familiarity. Without hesitation she began to close the distance between them, a smile appearing upon her face. "Hello?" her voice lifted up just slightly, voicing more of a question than a greeting.

At the sound of the distinctly light voice, Vlam's ears spun round. It didn't take much longer for a grin to cross the young male's face, and the end of his tail to swipe at the ground. A shark's grin- full of teeth and forced attitude. He knew that voice.
"Well, hello there!" The male purred, feigning ignorance. "What a beautiful stranger the desert has coughed up!" He chuckled, noting the encumbrance of dust that flecked the bright lioness's pelt. Like he was one to talk- although the bright white of his coat did well to hide most of the sand and sweat, it showed in the dappling of red stretched across his back and mane.
Never one to be left sitting around while a lady was a foot [although, for arguably less chivalrous reasons], Vlam hopped from the rock he had seated himself on. A small groan of complaint bubbled up from his tired shoulders- but he swallowed it back and made sure to lean heavily on them as he strutted. Truthfully, he was a bit surprised to see Siri. At least... so soon after. But then again, Vlam had never doubted his impact on women! He wasn't about to start it now.
Recently widowed woman, he reminded himself. Not an emotional fellow himself, he decided to skirt around the subject until he could be sure exactly what the older lioness's intentions were. "Ah!" He thrummed. "But, I think it's a fitting look! Nothing wrong with a little dirt."

Ah, finally she had found a Firekin who appeared happy to see her! This was the welcoming she wished she had been greeted with, not with the death of her mate. An easy smile lingered on her face, and she was once again the youthful, flirtatious lioness that she had been known to be. She sat, her tail curling around her thigh, the end just flicking idly back and forth. While Vlam stumbled a little bit with his compliments, at least he was complimenting her. "I do hope that the desert more graciously deposited me here instead of coughing me up," she teased, her smile turning playful.
He was young, and charming in his own way. It was easy for her to like him, it was easy for her to feel comfortable around him. Besides, he was the first lion around that didn't look at her with a degree of suspicion or dislike. Vlam was the perfect lion to be meeting with right now, and she knew that when they parted she'd be feeling a lot better.
She laughed, an easy, light sound that brought the depth of emotion back into her eyes. "I try my best to keep myself nice and clean." She knew the game he was playing, but she wasn't willing to give herself up so soon. "From time to time I don't mind a little dirt... so long as it isn't noticeable."

Vlam thrummed deep in his throat. He loved the way she talked. No, it certainly wasn’t the first time he’d heard that voice- but, the receptiveness of her tone was always surprising. Not that he’d let onto it. It was just nice to feed his ego sometimes. The pain in his shoulder had all but dulled into nothingness.
“Well, now.” Vlam smiled broadly. “The desert isn’t always a kind mistress. But, maybe you’re right. I don’t think anything so lovely could have been coughed up.”
It was true- suspicion was high in the pride, even among members like Vlam, who were born of mixed blood. And while Vlam was quiet quick to put down Siri’s male accomplices... he saw nothing wrong with inviting such lovely, strong women in the pride! Especially when they were so agreeable.
His eyes fluttered across Siri’s form. “Well, we'll have to be sure to hide it then! Or at least, get a little more dirt on myself so no one notices."

"Thank you," she purred, praising him for his proper correction. Of course she wouldn't be coughed up by the desert. Right now, she wanted to be thinking about positive things, she wanted to get away from her mate's death. It was time to push that all aside for a good time with an attractive, young lion. Vlam was closer to the type of lion she liked, anyways (though it could be said she loved all types, being a given flirt).
Lifting a paw, she smoothed her head tuft to the side, yellow eyes resting idly on the young Firekin. "I'd prefer it if very little dirt showed," and she knew that he was on the same page as her. Siri wanted badly to get away from all of the drama dealing with her mate's death, but didn't exactly want to start up another little drama of her own. It would be best to keep things as discreet as possible, and as the thought hit her, she glanced around as if she was feeling paranoid. But, she shrugged off the feeling. It was time to enjoy herself. She was free from Epesi, in a way. She was no longer mated to a lion she didn't love. She could do what she wanted, she could have fun like she wanted.
She was a lioness in her prime, and she would have fun. "But... I wouldn't mind you getting dirty for my sake. I would certainly appreciate the sacrifice."

Vlam was many things. But, an honorable man? He was still very much a boy, and with it came a healthy set of raging hormones and a solid dose of self confidence. He bowed down in front of her and let his paws slide through the sand. It was a mock play bow- but, he did his best to at least appear seductive. When the two had met before, Siri had been a mated lioness. To some scrap of a fellow! Growing bolder, Vlam smiled and kneaded his paws in the sand. He didn't see things emotionally, or even logically. He didn't understand concepts of rebound, or even the idea that it might be potentially damning to be caught philandering around with a murder suspect.
Or, even that he might have been manipulated. Just a tad.
He smiled and docked his ears. "That sounds like a plan." He thrummed, his voice thick. "I won't lie, I do enjoy getting my paws dirty."
The white lion's whiskers shifted, and he rolled over onto his back in testament of his either [a. groveling], or [b. dirt attraction]. Upside down, he reached up a paw and rather delicately flecked a few spots of sand off of Siri's coat. "There. Now, no one would ever notice."
"But, really. The best place to hide dirt is in the dark, I think." He purred.

She was in no doubt that he enjoyed dirtying his paws as much as she did. Now that she wasn't tied down by being mated to Epesi... she really could do as she pleased, could get a little dirty with an eager young lion. Really, he was rather attractive, with that harsh contrast of white and red - it was appealing to her. Vlam wasn't much beyond a good-looking, eager young lion, but that was all she needed right now, someone to pay her proper attention. She'd been sorely neglected recently.
"I would venture to say that you enjoy getting your paws dirty just as much as I do - and like to hide said dirt." Okay, so she wasn't playing very hard-to-get. Right now, the need for attention overruled. If the opportunity to get 'dirty' with Vlam again rose up, she'd be certain to make up for her lack of flirtatious teasing and leading on. Right now, she really was hoping that the opportunity would arise again.
She purred again, pleased by the action of Vlam flecking a few grains of grit off of her coat. She was sure they'd be discreet, and that it would all good fun. "I believe you, I don't think anyone will notice just how dirty we're going to be together." Leaning forward, she bowed her head enough to just briefly touch her nose against Vlam's. That was all for now, though, since they were still in the open.
"And do you happen to know of any place dark enough to hide dirt?" she asked, her voice rich and smooth with her pleasure.

He smiled as her nose touched his. It was surprisingly more gentle then was typical of the brutish male. He might of been a cad, but he rarely meant any harm. "Mm." He purred, his voice thick. "I do believe I know of a place!"
He stood up, bowing once and shaking off the remained of the dust from his coat. It fluttered around him in a small puff of swirling soot before dissipating in the wind. Although her touch thrilled him, he could sense some amount of restraint from her. Perhaps she was concerned by how it looked? A grin. Well, she needn't worry! Her mate might have failed her, but he was firekin. Why would anyone be suspicious of that?
"It's over this way." He drawled, moving aside and waiting for her to follow. "We'll make sure no one has any idea."
And then, as he walked he found himself a tad smug. He didn't mean any harm, but sometimes he had a bad habit of... "You know, I'm almost glad your mate died. I don't think I could stand seeing such a beautiful thing unavailable!"

"You most surely are wiser than I initially thought if you know of such a place." Of course, she knew where they were headed, and she knew exactly how this would end. While she should be more conscious of her actions, at the moment she didn't care. Vlam really was rather attractive, and she got along with him a fair bit more than she had ever got along with Epesi.
She waited for him to lead the way, and with a coy smile came up to walk by his side, her should brushing just against his. "If we manage to be discreet enough, perhaps I'll see you later?" Her smile was evidence enough to what she meant by meeting up again.
His next comment made her pause, though, her smile turning into a frown. "Ah..." she didn't know what to say to that, or rather what she should say. It was best to avoid that subject entirely, and so she effortlessly turned the subject back to something she knew he'd enjoy it. "I'm sure you won't waste your time with me. I'll enjoy the attention thoroughly." The pair were then off to enjoy themselves, something Siri sorely needed to do after being dragged down by Epesi's death. Well, there was no doubt that they would be enjoying themselves for the rest of the day.
