It was later in the day and the sun was not so over baring. It was quite cool and Moyo felt alright walking about with out being close by some sort of water supply. Early lightning bugs blinked about, welcoming the on coming night. Moyo couldn't help but watch them.
They were like fallen earth stars that some how lost their way. In a way it was sad. The little blue brown cub just couldn't help but feel sorry for them thinking of it like that.
One of the fireflies landed on Moyo's nose and lite up. Moyo backed away and shook his head trying to free him self from the 'earth star'. The bug would not leave though, it took Moyo a moment to realize that it was a bug. Not a star. The lion blinked and laughed.
"Go one little one, " He whispered to the insect, "They'll leave you all behind. Go on back to the sky." The bug stayed though. Its light faded and came back in short bursts. Moyo smiled.

Mashaka had spent his day roaming about the lands close to his den. He didn't like being at his den but he tried to make a point of going to far, his father's call always made it to his ears. He had a pleasant afternoon lounging about not doing much of anything at all. He had caught himself a hare for lunch and now that it was getting close to night time he was considering heading back towards then den to see what his father would bring home for dinner, bigger game always tasted better, but Mashaka was no match for it yet, one day though he thought to himself as he stretched his neck as far as it went to seem bigger.
As he sauntered along he caught sight of his younger half brother he had tormented earlier in the day. It was cooler now so the young cub was probably more comfortable, explaining him being no where near water. Mashaka being in a better mood then this morning decided to go and see what the young cub was shaking his head about.. for the distance and angle he was standing at he was unable to see the small bug Moyo was trying to shake from his nose.
He came up to the cub and gave a quick "Hello" in greeting, waiting for Moyo to turn and say hello.

Moyo looked up cross eyed at his older step brother. The fire fly stayed put on his nose.
"Hello~" Moyo chimed up at his brother, still a little cross eyed. That bright little thing on his nose was quite the distraction. Still Moyo smiled up at his brother.
The other day had been strange. Moyo had not been sure what he was feeling with his brother but for some reason it made him a little sad. That they weren't really brothers. However, right now Moyo was alright.
The fire fly flew off the cubs nose and joined its likes with the other bright insects leaving Moyo with his brother in the ground star lite savanna.

Mashaka saw the bug fly away and understood now why his younger brother had been shaking his head. He froze when he realized he thought of the little one as his brother without cringing. It was strange.
Was it possible that he was growing to like this boy. He growled under his breath at the thought, he couldn't like this cub it came from her. Though he was possibly beginning to recognize that the cub was not able to chose his mother. At very least he didn't look a lot like his mother, he had that going for him. "So Moyo, what have you been up to today?" he asked trying to make polite conversation.
It was strange, this acceptance he was feeling towards his brother, could it be ... personal growth?

Moyo gave his brother a BIG grin, "I been watching the earth stars," The lion waved a paw at all the fire flies that seemed to mimic stars. The cub gave his brother a nod, "Its pretty interesting. I didn't know there were earth stars."
Yeah, Moyo's tone was completely serious. He really had never seen anything like these "Earth stars " before in his life.

Mashaka smiled at his younger sibling, he didn't really enjoy his family life and couldn't wait to get away but perhaps Moyo wasn't all that bad. "They are not earth stars Moyo they are fireflies."
He swiped his paw up at a group of fireflies that were flying just above his head. He managed to catch one, "see little brother they are just like the flies you see during the day but." he shook the fly around in his hand "they light up when they are agitated or trying to find their friends and family."
He looked at his brother wondering if he was impressed with his knowledge.

Moyo looked astonished. He had no idea all this time flies were able to fly around and masquerade as stars from the heavens.
"Wow Mashaka, you sure are smart," He swiped at a few near by and watched as they scattered about. The cub couldn't help but laugh as he did it again and again. The poor fireflies were in a flying frenzy trying to evade the cubs paw.
"How did you know that Mashaka?" THe cub turned eagerly to his brother.

Mashaka let the fly he had caught go. "My dad" he said quietly smiling, "our dad taught us." It was strange this kind feeling that he had towards his brother. He smiled and looked down towards his brother.
"They are really cool aren't they?" he asked looking up at the flying stars, they were neat creatures really.

Moyo blinked up at his step brother and smiled. The our dad made his day.
"They are, " Moyo couldn't help but beam. With out thinking he got up and rubbed his head to his brothers. If a lion could purr, Moyo would be doing so right now.
"So, the insects ... are they in the sky too?"

Mashaka looked up into the sky, he was fairly sure his brother was referring to the stars in the sky. He could see how perhaps he would be confused about this whole thing.
"No Moyo, what is up there is different." Mashaka said simply trying to figure out how to explain all of this. Mashaka didn't fully understand it himself, he wasn't much older then Moyo. "They are always up there.... they don't really move, its strange... I guess they are kind of like the sun."
Mashaka lied down in the grass and looked up at the stars, "Stars they are stars, Moyo." he said simply watching them up there.

Moyo wasn't sure he understood, but he smiled and nodded anyhow. Maybe one day he could ask a star if it fell down to the ground. He could ask it all about its adventures and what it really was. Though, fireflies didn't talk. The cub frowned.
"Stars are stars," Moyo repeated and nodded as if he really understood what his bigger step brother was saying. In all honesty the cub hadn't the clue.
"Have you ever met a star Mashaka?" The cub laid down beside his brother and gazed on up ward. He was sure to snuggle in close. The savanna nights were cold and his brother was so warm.

Mashaka smiled at the young cub, it was obvious that he didn't get it, but he wasn't sure he could explain it any better... "No I have never met a star Moyo, I don't know that you can meet stars.. I don't know that they talk."
Mashaka paused to think, his younger brother really was good at raising questions, it upset Mashaka that he didn't know more answers. He decided it was all Moyo's mom's fault, he was stuck in the middle of nowhere with no one to learn from because of her. He frowned unhappy again, but resolved not to take it out on the little cub next to him, after all it wasn't really his fault.

Moyo smiled at his older brother, even though he didnt have all the answers, the small cub really looked up to him. The cub was happy snuggled up close to his favorite brother.
"I'd like to meet a star one day," Moy said at last, " And ask it for happiness for our family... Can you wish on star? Are they magic?"
Yeah little Moyo was just chuck full of questions. A curious little naive cub he was.

"You know Moyo, I think you can wish on stars. You could wish on anything if you wanted, but stars for have a certain magical feeling to them don't they." he sighed looking up at the sky. It was a strange sensation enjoying time with his younger brother.
In away Mashaka realized that when he left this place, which was inevitable, he had to go find his mother, he was going to miss Moyo, he was completely overwhelmed by this sensation, as it was one he never thought he would experience.

Moyo smiled and closed his eyes.
"Yeah, they really do feel like magic don't they..." He yawned and sleepily opened on eye to look at his step brother, "One day I'll find a star and I'll bring it to you so that you can have a wish brother....." Another yawn followed and the little cub shut his eye. He was so tired all of a sudden.
"Night night.... Mashaka...." With that the little cub all snug next to his older brother drifted off to dream land.
