Aekea is the only town allowed to have robots, did you know that? Do you build robots? Ever had one of those little kits that let you build the robot that can climb walls, or follow a line? Or did you just stack boxes, toss your old gameboy's innards into it, and make believe? Are you a fan of Cog, Kismet, or Leonardo? (Google them, they're at MIT)
Let's talk about robots!

So I happen to be fascinated by robotics. I just completely stink at math and don't have the brains for programming... But that doesn't keep me from loving robots!
So anyone else who shares my interest, can you remember the first robot that ever really caught your interest?
For me it was this guy here: http://my.reset.jp/~inu/ProductsDataBase/Products/TOMY/omnibot_2000/omnibot_2000_01.jpg
Back in the 80's, I wanted one so bad! he could carry a tray and roll around the room and... I think maybe he spoke? Looking back now, he really couldn't do much. But for the time, he was awesome! I remember drooling over his display case at Toys R Us... if I ever find one in working order for a reasonable price, I might still try to get ahold of it, just for sentimental reasons XD

Oh yes, lego robots! Those are always fun too. I used to make spaceships and "giant" robots, then have battles and the loser would get bashed into a wall so they'd "explode" XD

I wouldn't trust a robot with emotions. It could get scary.

It could, but it's an interesting concept too. I heard that they "euthanized" that robot after the incident.

Kenji-chan is still a young one. He has much to learn still about his feelings, let alone the world around him. Give him time and remain positive. He shall learn the do's and do not's of love and control his emotions in good time. 3nodding
Takahashi-hakase is my new hero now. His beliefs and dreams of robots and humans co-existing peacefully and even loving each other match my own. I don't feel so alone anymore....Maybe my robosexuality will be accepted one day....Until then, my family will never know....

I read another article. Apparently, the robot got to a point where everything they reactivated it, it became attached to the first thing it saw and rushed to hug it.
I had a random urge to watch Bicentennial Man today. Awesome movie if you haven't seen it yet!

I've seen that movie. I've been meaning to read the short story it was based off of. I heard they're both a lot different.

Yeah, the bookstore never seems to have the collection that the story's in, otherwise I would have read it. Asimov's stories are awesome!

I read Asimov's "Foundation" trilogy in the 80's. Probably my favorite novels of all time... starring robots! (well sort of)

I wonder if it's possible to program the three laws into real life robots...

Personally, I think the three laws should be programmed. It would make robots a lot more useful and way more safe.

I....prefer not to think too much about the Three Laws....It makes me think of a certain movie....A future which I hope doesn't come to be....
We all know that there will always be prejudice in this world. However, when the future comes, I think what we really need to do is show our robot friends that we care about them as much as our own flesh and blood. Treat them as equals. Place yourself in their position and be considerate to them. In short, treat our robot friends how you wish to be treated. 3nodding
