I apologize because I know we have a few threads on menstrual cups going right now. But I'm having a pretty big issue with mine. It won't stop leaking! crying
I insert, and go about my day. End of the day, I empty, it works in the sense if it's a heavy day, it collects 99%, I mean it will be almost full when I empty it. But um, the 1% is my issue. I've got spotting all over my undies, as if I was wearing a tampon that was at full capacity sweatdrop even though the cup is not actually full. And it happens on my lighter days too when it doesn't even get to be half full.
This is a very frustrating issue. I've tried turning it once it's in, I've tried not. It just seems no matter what I do I have this problem. Could I have the wrong size or something? I mean, I haven't had any babies! I was told to get size 1 so I did. But I've always been really heavy. I would take extra super tampons.
I don't want to give up, but for the amount of money this cost me, I'm very frustrated.

I had to up a size as well and I haven't had any kids yet either....but I'm getting close to 30.
I still tend to leak, but that's only cuz I haven't gotten myself to using it. I'm too scared to try it when I'm at work...so I've only been wearing it during the weekends sweatdrop

I use the bigger size. I've always used it. I don't have kids and I'm 30 now but I was 26 when I bought mine. I think I was just more concerned with leaking than with discomfort when I made the purchase and I'm glad I did because I've never had any discomfort and the thing works perfectly. Each brand is shaped a bit differently though.
Mine is a Lunette from Finland which is generally rated pretty high for shape, flexibility and capacity. The holes have all ripped out of mine but I still use it because I can't get another due to the FDA issue. I am going to have to break down and buy a Diva Cup in the large size but I'm not convinced it will be as good. I got really lucky in buying a great brand in the right size the first time, but sometimes they require a bit more trial and error.
If it gets a good seal it won't leak, and if it's too small it won't get a good seal, so I'd say the first thing you should try is sizing up. The store clerks etc. don't know your body, they just read the recommendations on the package. Just because you need the bigger size doesn't mean you're cavernous inside. People are shaped differently so those recommendations are not always accurate. Go for the size up and you should have better luck.
Hopefully you'll have as much success as I have. I only spilled out once in four years and that was a heavy day when I hadn't emptied in 8 hours so it was totally my fault.

I agree with the size up recommendations. Or rather than waiting until the end of the day, try emptying your cup more often.
I still empty anywhere from every 2-5 hours or longer depending on how my period is going that month.

gonk But these things are EXPENSIVE! It's not like getting the wrong size tampon and going oops, oh well. I was lucky I got mine on sale. I think they're normally 50-60 bucks Canadian. I've been using the organic cotton tampons lately

Well I looked up some different fold techniques online, unaware before now that such things might exist. I was very hopeful this would fix my problem. So optimistic in fact, I went without backup. Luckily my period was only beginning, so just a bit of spotting. I repositioned. I thought I could actually feel it opening, and then I didn't appear to have any more spotting. I emptied and put it back before going to bed. Couldn't feel it opening that time, went to bed with backup. I barely slept I was in so much pain, then I took Midol which has caffein sweatdrop I guestimate around 5am I started to feel like I was leaking and when I got up at 6 there was a bit of leakage but the cup was really full.
Emptied, sterilized, and tried again, with backup. But within a few hours I was having leakage. Emptied, repositioned. More leakage, although at least it caught 90% of the flow. So I survived on just the one pad.
But I'm extremely frustrated.

I emailed Diva cup and they basically told me to try what is written in their FAQ under what to do if you can't rotate it. "put The DivaCup in about half way, turn the cup one full rotation and then push it the rest of the way in, always horizontally, toward the tailbone. Since it will open up before inserting fully, you will be aware that it has "eased" opened. By creating a seal, you are ensuring that The DivaCup is not going to move around, feel uncomfortable or leak."
So I tried this and it did indeed open, and I was mostly leak free, until it got full which was every 2hrs on my heavy day, I don't know how I would have survived with tampons and pads. I can even tell when the seal has indeed been made and it is opened. If I pinch the bottom of the cup, I can feel the air inside. So it's been working great since and I'm really happy with it. No more OMG I'm out of pads and/or tampons aaaahhh!
