The pale faced male smirked as he picked his way through the jungle. He had spent enough time stalking his former love in the lands as well as watching that dark blue female...what was her name again? He paused to look up at the sky as he searched his memory for her name. Finding it his smirk broadened. Horowai. The last time he had seen her she had been heavy with cubs, his cubs. It was a satisfying fact and he relished in the way she tried to fight back, tried to deny that at least one of his cubs would some day join him.

If she had though that he hadn't been serious when he told her then she was sorely mistaken. Besides that young seer he had met had only strengthened his views and determination. He would find that girl that looked so much like him and he would take her with him, and maybe another if he felt like it. He continued to walk through the vegitation keeping mostly to the shadows.

It wouldn't do him any good if he was spotted too soon.

--

But he was close to the pride now and Horowai - who spent much of her time guarding the borders - picked up on movement just ahead of her position near the curve of the river. It was her favourite place to come, just because it was at the very edge of the territory, where none but the guards passed.

It was a good place to clear her head.

But not today, it seemed.

Her vibrant eyes shot to the source of that movement and she straigthened her posture, lifting her head high so that she might appear more intimidating. Then, drawing in a breath, she found a growl and burst towards the undergrowth. Hopefully it'd just be a stupid preybeast that would take flight as soon as it saw her.

She couldn't be bothered with a fight today.

He barely caught sight of her, or rather a lioness, before she burst through. He paused keeping his body still as he waited. His body was tense and if he was spotted, well he was sure he could handle a fight but that didn't mean he actually wanted to engage in one. When he recognized who it was he chuckled.

"My, my look at what the cat dragged in," he commented stepping from the shadows and towards her. At this point he figured everything would be fine. Just a small little confrontation, perfect. He knew just how much she hated him and love it. "Did you miss me princess?"

--

She burst through the leaves, snapping branches and vines as she went. Landing heavily, she raised her head, lifted her lips to reveal sharp fangs and snarled up at the intruder.

And then she realised who it was.

That pale face set with those sarcastic eyes. No. Nononono! This couldn't be happening! He wasn't alloud to come back. Not EVER!! Her hackles rose and she snarled anew, covering the shock with fury and feeding the fire with the outrage that his mocking words gave her.

"You! Stay back. I mean it." Her words might have been knives, the way she threw them at him. "You cannot be here. This is Kunanda'nakhun territory." This time she would not deal with this alone. Yes, she was a prideful creature looking for glory but she feared the reason that this male was here. No, if he did not leave she would roar for the others and they would come and then he wouldn't be so smug. Better him wounded...or worse...if it kept him doing any more harm.

He shook his head. "Now, now is that anyway to treat a guest?" He teased taking another step toward her. He was very much a court jester, always treading on a thin line knowing when to push and when to pull back. However sometimes he just kept pushing well aware of the consquences. "Is it now? I wouldn't know," he shrugged causally looking around him. "It looks like the rest of the jungle," he told her letting his eyes settle back on her.

"Princess," he started moving even closer. "I just came to see how things were going, taking a look at my, no our children. They're quite beautiful aren't they?" He asked her pretending to play nice, sort of at at least. "Your genes shine rather brightly." Maybe a few compliments would calm her.

"I won't be leaving you know."

--

She bristled. He knew exactly what to say to infuriate her and it was working. Her anger flashed in her eyes and she advanced as he did, refusing to back away. She was no coward! He was just a male and he was certainly no father! He had nothing to do with her cubs. And he would never have anything to do with them. She'd do all in her power to stop it.

"My children." She corrected viciously. "They have nothing to do with you." She growled and dug her claws into the soft earth beneath her. "And yes, for your information, they are beautiful because your genes had barely a part in their appearances."

Except for one, but she wouldn't tell him about her.

"They want nothing to do with you, do you hear me?! You will leave, male, because it's either that or die."

"The fire that burns within you is bright princess but it won't do you much good against me," he told her with a 'tsk' noise. "It's a shame really," he shrugged. "Perhaps not but they share my blood, I see myself in bits of them, especially one." His smirk returned. "Actually I see myself in her rather clearly, pale face grey pelt..." Oh he knew about Aysu and he was going to make sure that Horowai damn well knew that.

"I hear that she asks about me," he commented glancing at the sky briefly. "But you won't say anything now will you, not to any of them actually." He had checked in enough that he knew, knew all too well what happened around the lands. He was always inconspicuous. If he was caught all his fun would be ruined and he simply couldn't have that.

"Face the fact princess, I terrify you because you don't understand me or how I work and it drives you crazy."

--

"H-how?" She choked, eyes wild with anger and...was it fear? How could he know about Aysu? Or any of them? Had he been...spying? She felt sick. Sick to her stomach. Enough was enough. She was out of her depth. She needed to call for help. Her sister would come. Others would come.

They'd kill him.

Goodbye daddy.

"I understand you better than you know, you creep!" She hissed. "My children have no need of a father, here. Especially not one like you. You will die here, today and there will be no one to mourn your passing!" She made as if to strike at him, her fury reaching its limit.

---

An enraged snarl emanated from somewhere to Horowai's left and in that moment a grey and blue female - younger and smaller than Horowai - crashed through the trees.

She seemed not to know where to put her eyes. On her mother or on...on her father. Her heart quickened and yet her anger swelled. Finally. Finally he was here and she was ruining it!!

"I will mourn it!" She hissed, seething.

"Do you?" He asked grinning as she lunged at him. He turned, sliding forward, teeth bared poised and ready to snap at her thoat at a moments notice. "You can't win princess," he whispered. "I always win." He was enjoying himself far too much at the current moment. He had pushed her to her limit and now she was attacking. She was doing exactly what he had expected and he had been prepared. Even when he looked like his guard was down it was always up. He was one step of his opponent.

The chess pieces always fell into place.

He looked at his daughter out of the corner of his eye. Perfect timing. "Hello sugar, long time no see."

--

She skidded to a halt, whirling on her daughter as if she intended to divert her outrage onto her instead. It wasn't clear whether she hated Aysu. In fact she'd never really delved into her feelings for the grey child who was so like her father in looks.

"Go home, now. Now, Aysu." Her eyes were dangerous and the tone suggested there would be no room for arguments in this.

---

He was her father! Her father! She knew it! She knew he would come back! And look, he was looking at her, just barely. But he was looking at her, and there was no anger or annoyance. In fact, maybe he was even happy to see her!

She would have purred, thrown herself at him and hugged him in a burst of emotional tears. But there was one thing stopping her from doing that...

Her mother...

"No." Her voice was steely and it seemed she had indeed inherited her mother's stubborn nature. "I'm not going to listen to you anymore, Mother." Not that she ever had, really... "And I will not let you hurt him." Her eyes flicked back towards that pale lion, drinking in his appearance and adoring him for it. She couldn't help a small smile stretch across her face and she took a small step towards him, captivated.

Suijin carefully slid away from Horowai, moving safely out of the line of fire, well for the current time being. The dark female's attention was directed towards their daughter, an unwise move on her part. She left herself open and he could've attacked at any moment but then that would ruin all his fun and he simply couldn't have that.

No.

He was enjoying himself far too much to let that happen.

"Princess," he began glancing at Aysu briefly before letting his gaze settle back onto Horowai, she was the one he needed to keep an eye on. Aysu would follow him blindly, he didn't need to worry about her. "She's old enough to decide for herself."

He turned his head towards the pale-face female and flashed a smile in her general direction as he stepped toward her mother. "It's obvious you don't even care for her," he couldn't help but smirk. "I've seen how you treat her. She reminds you of me and you hate it

I'm everywhere and I always will be," he told her satisfied with how things were going. "Shall we leave sugar?"

"No!" Horowai blurted, seeming torn between turning back on the male or moving to stop her daughter. Her head was a muddle of different emotions, she couldn't tell one from another and they were starting to drown her. She could barely breath for the mess of confusion running through her mind right now.

"I won't let you take her away!"

Much to her horror, tears sprang to her eyes. Her heart clenched and she moved as if to seperate the two with her own body. "Aysu. You will listen to your mother! You are not to go with him!" Anger had been replaced with desperation now. "He doesn't care about you, don't you understand? He doesn't care!! It's all lies!"

---

Aysu was taken aback by this. Her heart and mind was screaming at her to go with him. To forget about this place and the blue female that dared call herself her mother. And yet...as much as she despised the female, she was hesitating.

Because she had never seen her mother cry before.

She glanced hesitantly towards her father and knew she loved him. She had always loved him, without even having met him. He had been in her dreams and in them he had come to rescue her from her sadness, take her away to a place more beautiful than even this. This was the day she had been waiting and longing for and now...now there was hesitation.

And...she could not see what her mother saw. She saw no lies in his eyes. She saw only hope and joy and love and she wanted it more than anything. He was her father!

"Mother, I'm sorry..." She tried to step around the female. "I love him. I won't let him go without me." Her adoring eyes returned to the male and she smiled again. Yes, this was the right thing to do, even if it did upset her mother.

He had seen her rebelling against his words, Horowai that was, and seeing her get upset and angry but what he hadn't seen was the tears. He pulled back slightly in surprise having not expected it, however he quickly shrugged it aside. It was of little consequence, it wouldn't get in the way of everything else he had planned.

Emotions, such as sadness and tears, were nothing more than trouble and he wouldn't bother with them. He had more important things to do.

"You don't know that princess," he told Horowai. "How can you know how I feel about Aysu when you don't even know me?" She pretended like she knew him, knew the slightest thing about him but she didn't. Yes at the current moment he hardly felt anything for his pale-faced daughter but it didn't mean that he couldn't.

Everything was a scheme to him. A giant chess game that he was currently winning. He walked over to Aysu turning his head back towards Horowai.

"She's made her decision," he told the dark female. "I won't hesitate to hurt you if you try to stop us."

"Don't call me that." Horowai snarled, her anger rekindling somewhat. "I know enough. I know enough to know that you don't care about her. You don't have a caring bone in your body!" She spat.

And what did he mean, Aysu had made her decision? No she hadn't! Not if she had anything to say about it!

"Hurt me? Oh yes, that sounds about right." Her eyes snapped back ot her daughter. "Don't you see? He's just using you in some grand scheme! You're too stupid to see it!"

And, realising he was getting to close to her, she sprang at him.

---

However, her claws didn't find purchase in Suijin. They hooked into her daughter - who had leapt in to protect him. Being smaller and lighter and not as well trained in the ways of fighting, Aysu was dragged to the ground, wailing as the pain registered.

She lashed up at her mother, cuffing her across the face with just enough power that Horowai paused in her attack, realising what she'd done. In shock and disbelief, the older female leapt back.

Aysu's heart wrenched at the look in her mother's face. Guilt. Fear. Grief. Heart break. Why was she doing this now? Why was she fighting so hard to keep her when she was never wanted before? Why was Aysu's heart fighting to find love for her?!

She dragged herself away from the blue, shaking. "I hate you, Mother. I hate YOU!!" And, tears overflowing, she ran to her father, closing the gap between them, sobs wracking her body.

She'd made her choice, that much was clear.

He wasn't surprised when she attacked, he was surprised that Aysu had lept in front of him. When her mother's claws sunk into Aysu he snarled turned on Horowai teeth bared and claws out ready to attack. "Ever do that again and I'll ******** kill you," he growled seriously pissed off.

"I swear to god..." he started shaking his head. All fun games were off. When Aysu reached him he was forced to stop, she needed him more than she needed him to be pissed at her mother. His features softened slightly, it wasn't sure if he was faking concern or if he really gave a damn about her.

"Shhh," he cooed pressing his nose into her neck. "It's alright..." He told her before motioning for her to follow him. "We're leaving."

She'd lost.

He'd put her to the test twice and both times she had failed.

Anger filled her, blinded her, clouded her senses. She seethed there, watching him take her daughter away. Where had he been when they had been growing up? Skulking. Spying. How dare she love him more than her? How dare she!

Watching him comfort her put something even akin to jealousy in her heart. But there was nothing she could do. He was taking her away. No. No she couldn't let him! She'd go and find Tejasvi. Then they'd hunt them down and she'd drag her daughter back whether she liked it or not.

"This isn't the end of it." She hissed, but clearly she was put off from another attack by his angry words. There had been no joke in that threat and if she leapt again, she'd be leaping into the jaws of death.

Heart pounding, tears prickling the backs of her eyes, Horowai tore off in search of her sister.

---

Aysu, hearing the crashing of her mother's departure, leaned against her father with great relief. It was over now. Over. And finally she was with her father. This day had been so long awaited.

With a shaky nod, she pressed close and waited for him to take the lead, not knowing where they were going and not caring.

Anywhere was better than here.

"Next time will be the last time Princess," he told her no sarcasm or anything but coldness in his tone. He knew it wouldn't end today but today was ending now whether the female liked it or not.

He'd done a lot of bad things in his life time and he was destined to do a thousand more but he would never forgive her for hurting the daughter who did nothing wrong. The girl who only wanted love from her parents.

"But I would watch your back," he remarked shaking his head as they started to walk away. "The world outside of your pride is a cruel place."

With that he took their daughter and left.
