"Come on, Indie!" Evadne called, stopping and looking back at her brother, tail wagging wildly. They had passed the scent borders of their pack a while ago, and although Evadne knew that Calandra would probably not be too happy about it, Evadne was sure she could find her way back. Besides, it wasn't often that they got to do whatever they wanted.

She grinned, tongue lolling out, and shook her fur as a breeze tugged it uncomfortably. "We must be half-way to the mountains by now!"

The independence Evadne was developing was making her a handful for Calandra, but the little girl didn't seem to notice. More often than not she was a good pup, staying home and causing minimal amounts of trouble. Every now and again, however, her wanderlust got the best of her and she dragged her brother off to play some place other than the familiarity of their den. It was chances like that that let her get to know the area she lived in so that when she grew up she would never get lost. She liked knowing her surroundings and just having fun-- who cared what borders were surrounding her while she did it? And besides, when they were off alone Evadne had to be in charge and protect her younger brother. She wasn't crazy about playing leader, but someone had to do it, and as the older sibling it was left up to her. Weren't the two of them a great team? They were a great team!

Evadne wagged her tail again, mock-pouncing on a leaf in her brother's direction. "Maybe we can even catch a squirrel and show Mom that we're listening! Tips and tricks, tips and tricks." She batted the leaf to the side and let out a small, supposedly vicious growl at her "prey."

Indie scuttled after his sister, pace picking up slightly as she fussed at him for going too slow, despite her urging however the little purple pup couldn't help glancing over his shoulder from time to time to peer behind him - almost as though fearing some great monster was about to leap out of the woods and attack him. Although in this case he knew it was more likely to be Calandra who would come hurtling through the woods and scold them all soundly for wandering out of the pack boundaries.

"Oooh..we're going to be in so much trouubble" he muttered to himself under his breath as he caught up to his sister. "Why do you ant to go to the mountains?" he panted at his sister once he finally caught up, pulling up short as she assaulted a wayward leaf and nearly landed on his paw. Of course the sudden stop made him trip slightly but that was hardly anything knew and he plopped on on his bottom to hide it. He was always tripping..or running into something. Indie was pretty sure he just had bad luck.

He did perk up however at the thought of catching a squirrel, maybe if they did so , concocting a story of 'accidently' chasing their prey out of boundaries Calandra would forget to scold them being so pleased with their apparent success."I bet we can!" He stated standing back up and wagging his tail - nd for the first time showing a bit of excitement about this little wayward trip Evadne had dragged him out on.

Evadne stopped for half a moment to contemplate Indeygo's question, then shrugged it off with a laugh.

"Squirrels! We'll need to go looking." She turned around and looked over the woods as if. Off to her left Evadne could see the beach through the trees, but she turned her head so all she could see was forest. Squirrels didn't live at beaches. She heard Indeygo's excitement and looked at him, wagging her tail. She nudged her brother's shoulder lightly with her muzzle. "See? Fun! We're going to do it all on our own!"

"This way," she whispered, ears perked forward and tail lifted as she crept through the woods, shoulders hunched slightly. Every stir of a leaf made her twitch at first, giving her what looked like come kind of nervous tic, but as the sounds became more common, Evadne was able to focus more on the little sounds that came with birds and smaller ground animals like the squirrels they were hunting.

Indeygo shrugged slightly as his sister laughed off the question - he merely assumed she simply didn't have a good reason for wanting to go to the mountains. Hardly unusual - Evadne seemed fine with spontaneous things like that.

Turning his attention back to the treetops Indeygo looked about for the chattering presences of a squirrel - but of course none could be seen - they'd all run off on seeing them he told himself, the little beasts weren't stupid after all. "yes fun!" He tried to match his sisters enthusiasm and gave a little puppy hop bouncing around to chase his tail. Calandra couldn't be too mad at them he reasoned if they managed to catch a squirrel! Or at least thats what he told himself.

Following his sister further into the forest Indeygo had gotten far better at moving quietly - and no longer had to stare at the ground to do so - subsequently he hadn't run into a tree in quite a while. A rustling in the bush caught his attention and he nudged his sister in the flank to get her attention, ear pricked in the direction of the noise.

With the nudge following the noise, Evadne's ears perked forwards as well and she turned her eyes towards the bush.

It didn't bother her that she might be too far from home. Those things excited her, made her anxious to grow up into an adult and go searching the world over for her other siblings. She loved Indeygo and they had fun, but without the rest-- even the ones she remembered as being vaguely bossy-- Evadne always felt something was missing when she thought of them. She worried about if they could be found, although not once anymore did she think about them not having made it out at all. Adulthood was a long way off, though, and more often than not Evadne's thoughts drifted here to there, flitting around with the day as any pup's would, rather than focusing on topics that were worrisome or sad.

She crept forward, body tense with anticipation. A hint of movement caught her eye and she locked on whatever small creature was hidden in the branches. Squirrel? Perhaps unaware of how close the pups had come to its hiding place?

The creature hopped up a branch and Evadne glanced back briefly at Indeygo, to tell him to go around the other side and be ready, when the bush suddenly exploded and a pair of sparrows, chirping with alarm, shot from the leaves and into the air. Evadne, startled, jerked away from the bush even as her head spun back to watch the birds with wide eyes.

"Birds!" She announced unnecessarily, her mind still thrown off by the surprise.

Indy followed his sisters instruction, skulking about to the other side of the bush, he was nearly there...almost in place when the birds burst from the laves screaming their alarm. Indeygo voiced his own startlement yelping as he threw himself backwards, tripping on a tree root and falling head over heels into a small depression where he huddled for a few moments before poking his head up to look at his sister with a sheepish expression.

"J--just birds" He agreed pulling himself out of the hole and over the tree root before shaking his pelt to dislodge any leaves. It was vaguely embarrassing to have reacted like that to a couple of birds and he cleared his throat slightly. "I guess we should keep looking then" He continued "Maybe they are hiding in that deeper section there" He stated...motioning to the darkest part of the forest he could find in an attempt to sound and seem braver then he was - an attempt that was a bit understated by the barely concealed tremor in his voice.

Eva turned to look at the darker part of the wood just as a cloud passed over, briefly dimming the light around them. Immediately her tail tucked between her legs and her ears pinned back. She let out a soft whine, but stood straight to give the illusion that she was afraid. In there? Eva could see light beyond the dark spot, but like any puppy she didn't relish the thought of going to the scariest part of the woods just to get beyond it.

"I guess that's... possible," she agreed. She looked quickly at her brother and swallowed hard. "We should check, just in case."

Her ears lifted again, but her tail stayed firmly between her legs as she marched forward, eyes locked on the place of her doom as it loomed closer. A sound in the underbrush drew her attention and her heart jumped with hope. Maybe they didn't have to go in after all!

"A chipmunk would be as good as a squirrel, right?" She asked hesitantly.

Don't be such a baby! Eva scolded herself and her tail lifted proudly. She could do this.

"We should double check the dark part anyway. The chipmunk can be for if we can't find a squirrel. Cali would never believe it took both of us for a chipmunk." Eva nodded at her logic and walked towards the overshadowed section, forcing one paw in front of the other. She wouldn't baby out. She wouldn't.

Indeygo was actually hopeful when Evadne whined and tucked her tail - there was no way she'd actually go along with the suggestion he figured, nah..she'd find some other likely spot to hunt for their prey - and he could uphold his bluff about being brave.

But it looked like he had underestmated his sisters bravery. Rats...Indeygo thought to himself as Evadne stubbornly marched towards the forbidding section of the woods. He swallowed hard and ticked his gaze towards the twisted dark place - was it his imagination or did it look like even the vegetation was evil in there? vines twisting and wrapping around the trees. This is what you get he scolded himself as he slunk in his sisters wake belly nearly touching the ground, this is what you get for pretending to be brave! You will probably get lost...or strangled by the evil vines his inner voice ranted at him, a rant which did not help his confidence at all.

Eva however seemed to have overcome her fear, marching forward with tail high. "I think a chipmunk would be fine..maybe we can find two chipmunks!" He whispered to his sister's back, as though speaking any louder would draw the attention of the dark spot of woods. But Eva continued forward and Indey followed - like he always did, like he always had Eva had gotten away from the fire he reminded himself, had gotten them across the river and led them to the place where Cali had found them. If she could do that, she could certainly conquer this shadowy forest he told himself.

Taking a deep breath he rose up off his belly and though his tail remained tucked and his ear were plastered to his skull he walked more then skulked behind his sister. "Alright..Eva...lets check, just to be sure" He finally agreed.

((I can't believe it's been that long since I've posted. XP I'm sorry! Let's try to wrap this up then, so we can at least move on to one of their teen rps before they hit adult! XD))

Eva nodded to herself and to her brother's comments, trying to be the strong older sister for him in this. If she showed fear, how would he know not to be afraid? So she found herself trying to face down a forest, a non-visible personality. How was she supposed to overcome that?

Her paw touched the first shadow of the darker part and Evadne was certain she felt cold jittering up her leg. She whined softly, briefly, and cautiously slunk into the forest, her tail not nearly as high as it had been. The sounds here weren't anywhere close to them, just distant and the occassional birdsong passing overhead. It was like a deadzone of forest and the lack of noise made her jittery. She conveniently forgot, in her nervousness, that the brighter forest they had just come from had also been pretty quiet aside from the birds they'd startled.

"I don't hear any squirrels," Eva whispered, afraid to lift her voice any louder and disturb the slumbering beasts that were clearly keeping the prey out of this part of the forest.

Indeygo peered around his sisters blue form and into the dark forest beyond, the vegetation here was far thicker then the areas they had previously explored - indeed it looked as though the twisted vegetation was all but choking out any light that tried to get through, as he watched a dead looking leaf fluttered to the ground in front of him, he blinked at it for a few moments coyote scat! even the plants were being poisoned in this place. Skittering backwards a few steps - unwilling unlike his sister to touch the shadow line.

"Me either, everything looks dead over there...I don't think I'd want to eat a squirrel from in that place anyways" He answered her in a quiet voice.

She agreed, but she couldn't back down yet. Could she? "Come on, Indie, we have to at least try. If there's no squirrels we'll go."

Eva looked back at her brother, stopping long enough to shake her head at him. In some ways she wondered if he would make it on his own if she weren't there to help him out and protect him. Well, she didn't intend on letting him out of her sight any time soon. "Anyway, Cali'll--"

She jumped as something growled in the forest behind them and yelped as it was accompanied by the sound of something loud hitting the leaves. "You're right! It's not worth it!"

She ran back towards Indie. "We'll find squirrels somewhere else," she chattered quickly, stopping briefly to look back at the woods. "This way maybe!" Without wanting to seem like too much of a scaredy-lynx, Eva began walking back towards the packlands as quickly as possible, bringing her almost to a jog.

Oh thank the seasons! Indey thought to himself as Eva came high-tailing it back towards him, for a few brief moments he had been sure his far braver sister would insist on investigating whatever it was that had made that horrible noise in the woods.

Whining slightly Indey licked his paw nervously and followed after her, tripping over a stick and nearly sprawling into her as he did so. "I bet we find one on the way back" he spoke up once he'd regained his footing. He was pretty sure his sister was a bit disappointed in their attempts to find a Squirrels and his words were his attempt at bolstering her spirits somewhat as he trotted along at her shoulder.

The blue pup moved away as her brother nearly tripped into her and gave him a slightly bothered look. Evadne looked a bit sulky as her steps slowed, but she finally wagged her tail slightly. "There's plenty in the packlands, and now Cali doesn't have to know we even left! Not if we can make it back in time. She'll just think that we were busy chasing the squirrel. Good idea, Indie!"

She pranced around him, looking a bit more cheerful now that a suggestion for their next plan of action had been made. "Bet I can find a squirrel first!" She called, then bounded off towards their home, eyes peeled for movement. The serious sniffing out of squirrels could be done in a little while, once she was done playing.

Indy didn't seem bothered by the look his sister shot him when he almost fell into her, he'd done it so often now and she'd given him said look so many times that frankly Indy barely even noticed it anymore. He was however happy that his suggestion was well received...both because it seemed to cheer his sister up and because it would likely keep them from getting into trouble.

Giving a little yip as she bounded off, Indy dashed after her, his own eyes peeled for movement. Giving a little growl he playfully snapped at his sisters tail once he had caught up with her. "Only if you beat me back home"
