Meadow Lake was both peaceful and quiet, two things the younger of the two Herla twins cherished dearly. While he loved his brother, probably more then himself, Remus cherished the time he had without his brother schmoozing up to some random lady. He cared little for the social antics of his brother, or his smooth charismatic way of wooing anyone who was unfortunate enough to fall for it. Usually ditzy herlas fell for it before smart ones, and Roman grew bored, but the time between, when Roman was stuck in some odd sort of not-quite-marital bliss, Remus chose to make himself scarce. Unfortunately, one could not escape the other without the other soon becoming aware of it.
The few moments he had of peace, he cherished dearly, because sooner or later his brother would come stomping through the brush, demanding just what he thought he was doing, wandering off like that.
Snorting a bit of something-or-other off his nose, Remus lowered his head and took a sip from the meadow, then laid down beside it, peering into the water curiously. His reflection, a wonderful thing. Though he shared many of his brothers features, it was... easy to tell he was nothing at all like him. Small, effeminate, thin and frail. Roman's little prize. His poor, fragile little brother. Sometimes it made Remus angry, but rationally, it shouldn't have. Remus loved his brother for all his... quirks. He loved his need to protect, it spoke well of his bravery and loyalty. He loved that Roman was so passionate about him, it spoke of how much he loved him. He loved that he was smothered almost constantly, because it meant he was cared for, that he wasn't left alone after their parents disappeared.
But a Herla can only take so much love.
Ears flattening against his head, Remus smiled lazily. It was nice to not hear his brother breathing down his neck, but sooner or later he'd end up missing him. Or his brother would go stomping through the brush. But for now, he simply relaxed and waited for the inevitable. Peace was only so cherished because sooner or later, it was broken.

He'd stumbled upon the place by accident, of course that was how a large majority of his travels had gone. Wandering here and there, falling into one situation or another, one new scene, or forest, or lake..haha..lakes. This though...this place in particular was breath taking, and truly shens standards were quite high when it came to judging a place as breathtaking or not. Small and quiet, quaint in its own way, the meadow area seemed to hold a serene sense of peace to it, one he'd rarely felt in other places.
Shaking himself out of his daze and wandering a bit further out of the brush and into the open, admiring the area as his eyes roamed over the lake and the grass, and the dark figure laying near the waters edge. That got him to do a double take, all that black against a backdrop of greens and blues. Hah, another beautiful thing found in a beautiful place!
Smiling softly to himself as he moved forwards, hoping not to spook the other..he did that far to often and it always ended badly, sneaking up on others was a terrible habit of his. Hooves leaving small indents in the grass as he walked to the edge opposite the dark hart, lowering his head and neck, bright pink tongue lapping out at the water while his eyes stayed glued to the mysterious figure. Trying to get a better sense of who exactly it was while attempting to look like he wasnt staring..

Remus hadn't heard or noticed the new guest, and so he didn't react as though he had. He was completely relaxed, it was an odd thing to see if one knew Remus. He was... cautious and wary about being seen as relaxed. Only Roman really saw him with all his walls down. His walls were his form of protection, that and his mind. His intelligence saved him more then once, either by logically figuring out a solution or confusing some poor bully long enough to run away or wait for Big Brother to back him up. Speaking of Roman, or rather, thinking of him, Remus started to sit up, yawning quietly.
"I wonder where he's gotten to." He muttered to himself, his voice light and airy. He paused, peering at the water and tilting his head idly. He wasn't worried over Roman; Roman was infinitely better at taking care of himself. At least he didn't still trip on roots and the like. He started craning his neck to and fro to take in the majestic scenery, and paused when he noticed the new herla. Wtfwheredidhecomefromhowdidhesneakuponhim!? Though he was freaking out internally, Remus had learned a great many things growing up as hesitant as he was.
Instead of freaking out or frowning or jumping away, he smiled quietly, inclining his head in greeting. He said nothing more then what he had muttered to himself, and even that made him cringe a little. What if he'd heard him talk? What if he thought he sounded funny? He wasn't the talker; that was his brother. Remus was the quiet nerd. Key word being quiet.

Ears flicking forwards as he caught sight of the dark herlas slight motion, eyes dropping to the water as he realized he'd been spotted. Caught spying on the hart from the waters view. It took shen a few moments to truly process remus's smile, the way that the herla stayed perfectly still where he was, was he really inviting him over? It was a strange tense moment, lifting his head up from the water, golden eyes still on the other though not as intensely as before. "Hello to you too, ah..nice day were having?" shen chuckled dryly, his tail swishing slowly behind him.
"I'm hoping..I didn't interrupt you right, I have a habit of doing that, haha surprising people, seems to be all I do now a days" he kept talking because the silence unnerved him, even if it was his own voice he'd always had the urge to be around sounds, noises were the indicator of life, that all was safe. If things were too quiet in one area then it must have meant it was dangerous..There were exceptions to the rule of course, the desert being one of them. Terribly harsh silent place "If I am then, well I can always leave. After all you were here first weren't you" he kept a gentle smile on his face and walked closer, stopping a few feet from away from where remus lay.
There was a split second of surprise on shens face, realizing that what he'd thought was a hart may actually have been a hind. The features screamed female to him, delicate and soft, the eyes even, such a beautiful shade of blue, almost like sapphires. Something on the others face spoke of masculinity, without hearing a voice it was rather hard to place gender, and even then sometimes it could be tricky. He could understand that at least, being rather lanky and having a soft face...his choice of decoration's never helped either.

As Shen spoke, Remus didn't respond. He merely listened, ears perking up towards Shen to show that he was indeed listening, and not merely deaf and dumb. He smiled a little at him, not a polite smile but one of amusement, and shook his head quietly. "It's okay." He said finally, voice still quiet and airy, but a little louder so as to be heard. Two words was a lot, and he looked down at the water, rubbing his hoof against the ground uneasily. He wasn't as comfortable in social situations as his brother, and damn it, where was he anyway?
"I was expecting someone anyway." He added finally, looking over shyly and fuming a little at himself. How hard was it to merely be polite? That was logically the best way to make friends, but making friends had its own set of risks. How was he to know who was friendly and who was not? Who was safe and who was dangerous? Outward appearances would be an indicator but then again, they could be an indicator of something dark lurking beneath a light surface. He looked up at him, then swallowed and looked back at the water. "I-It is a nice day." He said after another minute of awkward silence, ears flattening.
Oh, for the love of all things natural, where was Roman when he needed him?!

"Its Okay" shen simply took it as another invitation, the voice was so damn light though, maybe this was a girl? Gender hardly mattered to him, but it made conversation a bit easier if he could define what he was speaking with...This hart..hind..deer..reminded him of silk. Black silk and sapphires tucked away in a velvet box. That was an odd way to think of anything, he knew, but it was all he could do for the moment, he really couldn't place remus with anything else in his memory.
"Ooh, a friend or a lover?" it was bold, maybe a bit rude of a question, but shen felt suddenly curious, enticed by the deers soft voice and indescribable features. Like trying to make out a puzzle through murky waters, "Ah but its not my place to ask that..I should hope they come along soon then. This place, its absolutely stunning! Heh I've been to a lot of places, its rare to find ones like these though. A bit like an oasis in the desert.." shen nodded softly, his grin widening a bit at the bucks stammered words, yes certainly this one was, was he male? Shen refused to ask, at least not yet, it'd be horribly off-putting of him to go and accidentally insult someone he'd just barely met!
"That it is, nice and quiet and calm" shen admired the sky for a bit, taking a chance to step closer to the dark one, get a bit more into his personal space. The way the other stammered made shen want to think he was a female again. There was just something about his face though.. Suddenly shen wondered, that if it had been storming and raining outside, if he'd said it was a nice day while there was a hurricane going on, if maybe the dark herla would have still said it was a nice day. His ears flicked a few times, fanning out against his head, the tip of his tail idly curling around one leg as it often did, he swore he had no control over the thing!

Remus's eyes widened, and he looked up at him, visibly shocked. "N-n-n-no!" He scooted a few feet away, feeling his face heating up. Lover? Never! Remus didn't even have friends, least of all something like that. "M-my brother." He explained, ears flattening and looking down, embarrassed. Freaking out like that was surely going to send the poor guy running, but his next statement made him pause. He nodded slowly, swallowing. "I-I've, erm... Heard of them. Deserts, not oasis." He muttered quietly, looking down at the water again, then up at Shen. And then back down just as quick, as though looking at the strange hart was too much for poor Remus to bear.
In a way, it probably was.
"I-I like that." He said, nodding quietly. "The, um... The quiet. My..." He trailed off, swallowing. It wasn't so bad. He wasn't embarassing himself too badly. Just breathe and speak, Remus. He coaxed himself quietly. "My brother, Roman? He, uh... He talks a lot. I-it's nice to get some time to think." He paused, faltering, and looked sheepish all over again. "Not that y-you talk too much or anything, but he does." He added quickly, fuming at himself. Just one non-awkward conversation. Was that too much to ask? Really?

"Oooh, your brother." shen frowned, if he'd had the ability he would have kicked himself, it was far too bold a question to have asked! "You don't sound like you've had much luck with lovers either? I always seem to find myself in that boat" he grinned coyly, trying to be a bit playful. Apparently stuttering around sentences and words was a common thing for the black buck, it made shen think of another he'd met before. Apparently this particular buck was one of those shy ones...that somehow always made the conversation that much more entertaining.
This one was definitely a male, shen was sure of it now, or at least half sure, the way he spoke of things more then his voice and his looks, mentioning his brother as he had.."Deserts are interesting places..harsh and unfriendly really. Oasis's..there like...mnnn, like the most beautiful thing you could ever see in a barren landscape. A pool of water surrounded by trees and grass, and then all of that surrounded by nothing but empty sand!" shen laughed deeply, he'd always been an odd one, crawled straight out of the water and run into the desert the first time he'd been able to be away on his own. He had a love hate relationship with the water, and anything else that reminded him of his murky swamp-like home.
He frowned slightly as remus went on, ears drooping against his head and tail curling a bit more tightly. Even if the male said he didn't mind his talking.."I'm still probably ruining your day aren't I? You come out here for peace and quiet and I barge right in like some boar.." shen sighed lowering his head a bit closer to the ground. "If you say you don't mind though, then maybe I'll stay and talk a bit, you seem like someone who adores long conversations" it was a tease, a playful jab, though shen was actually enjoying talking with him. "Really...I'm more curious about you then your brother..he sounds like a big part of your life though, are you two really close?" he tilted his head and reclosed the distance that remus had created with a few small strides. If he was going to talk then he was going to be close enough to hear and see the other properly. Even if he couldn't get direct eye contact out of his conversation partner..

Remus nodded quietly, looking back at the water sheepishly, and then blinked. And there was that fiery sensation of blushing across his face. "I-I-I..." He trailed off, flustered, and merely shook his head. He hadn't much luck with lovers because he never had any, and if lovers were as fickle as his Roman he didn't want them. Remus was a romantic deep down; the idea of being wooed was just... perfect. But to be wooed by someone and then left by the same someone when someone prettier came along... Remus couldn't deal with the idea of losing someone important to him. It was probably good that the only important person to him was Roman, because he'd never lose his brother.
"I-I've never been." He said, grateful for the change in topic. "B-But I've heard of them from some others." He perked his ears up at the description of the oasis, the mystical place. An option to learn about something versus being embarrassed? Learning plzkthnx. "How did you find one? Do you travel a lot?" He asked, his stutter seeming to fade at the idea of learning something knew. He was an odd one; more comfortable learning then simply... chatting.
"Y-You aren't." He promised sheepishly, shrugging a little at him. "I-I had quiet before you came." He'd been there for a great while; since dawn, give or take a few minutes. Roman had brought some silly hind to his den and Remus had taken that as an excuse to get the hell out before things started happening. He smiled a little at the tease, shaking his head. "W-Well I'm a better actor then I thought." He muttered, smiling shyly at Shen. "W-We are." He answered, nodding slowly. "He's... He's my family. The only one I've got." He muttered, looking at the water and frowning quietly. He seemed distant for a moment, before looking up. "My name's Remus."

Shen nodded knowingly, he could understand the buck, or at least he felt he could. He'd never had any luck with lovers, hah or even getting a tade for that matter! Having offspring wasnt everything though, and certainly nothing was worth a one night stand...well..maybe if he came across the perfect someone. Shen smiled happily, ears tilted forwards as he listened eagerly to remus speak. Remus, it was a good name, definitely a boys name!
"I have and still do travel quite a bit! There's nothing better in this world then exploring it. When I found my first oasis it was by pure chance, believe it or not I followed a scorpion to it. I was so dehydrated I thought the thing was another mirage, at least until I found myself walking straight into the pool, certainly no mirage" he giggled softly "The desert is mean like that, the heat loving to play tricks on people, see things you want to see, but they aren't really there" he sniffed proudly. Even if the desert was harsh and hot he loved it, it was probably one of his favorite places because of all the secrets it hid.
"Good...I'm glad I didn't completely interrupt. Your lucky you know, to have a brother, ah a family like that. It sounds like a wonderful thing..." his tail swishing happily, tilting his head and bowing low bringing his face level with remus "I'm Shen, and its nice to meet you Remus, your name suits you ya know. I like it" shen said sweetly, and it was the truth. He liked the others name, it seemed almost...regal..
