Thanks to you both!
heart Sorry I didn't reply to this thread for awhile, heh.''
I try explaining to my dad about my choices, but he just seems so unaffected by anything I say. I mean, half the time, even if I'm not saying anything so important, like, Dad, when can I use the computer? He just outright ignores me. Sort of unrelated, but meh.
Anyhoo, this is something I posted on the main gaia forums earlier on a diff account:
Recently, I became a vegan, and after doing so, I watched the documentary
EarthlingsAnyhoo, my dad has always made fun of me... especially since I became a vegetarian over a year and a half ago. Jokes about meat, and always saying things like, "oh btw, that's not a veggie burger really..." You know?
So I show this documentary to father today, hoping to give him some understanding so that he would think twice before acting so cold hearted towards me. For the first HOUR he doesn't say anything, and actually seems
affected, but then he is like...
Ha, its not like animals actually feel pain, they're just animals.
Its okay to lock up a circus animal, I used to do it to you when you were a baby - I would put you in your crib so you couldn't get out! (I don't even see how this relates on any scale.) And they let them out of their cage when they perform, so its ok!
I'm trying to understand him. Is what he saying actually acceptable and realistic and sane, and I'm just overreacting? Or did this documentary actually have a truthful point?
neutral Thoughts?
