Character Info

Name(s) : Huáng Dáwei (older) & Huáng Jùnrén (younger)
Age : 16
Gender : Male

Appearance(s) : Considering the boys were born into the royal family of the Emperor of Chialen, certain things must be taken into account. This, of course, can be said about their wardrobe. The wealth of their family has enabled the boys to have a variety of outfits for different occasions, all of which will be described in their respective categories:

Royal Clothing

Dáwei - Dáwei's outfits tend to be slightly more flamboyant than his brother's. Though he is far from vain, he thinks one should always look his best to make a good impression.
Jùnrén - Jùnrén's royal clothing when they are at home in Otalin is much more simple than his brother's. He prefers plainer colours that allow him to stand out less. For this reason, the younger of the two twins wears gray coloured robes at the palace.

The boys dress similar when out of the country. Their royal clothing is almost the same, except for a few minor differences. While Dáwei's clothing is red and gold, Jùnrén's is blue and silver. His pants are also less intricate than Dáwei's, as they don't have stitching near the bottom of the leg. They are just simply black. Their shoes also match their coats, being red and blue in colour, respectively.

Casual Clothing

Dáwei - These clothes are less colourful than any of his other detailed outfits. Dáwei doesn't feel the need to wear anything fancy around the house, but his clothing style still isn't as relaxed as his brother's. The top is fitted, yet comfortable and made out of a light material. The pants are more lose, tied off at the top with a simple belt as well as two more warps on the bottom.
Jùnrén - When lounging about back home or out on the streets, Jùnrén likes to be comfortable. His casual clothing back in Otalin is a lot more laid back. He wears a white one-sleeved robe. The collar is orange, and the right side of the robe is decorated with a flame-like design. The left side of the robe is sleeveless.

Dáwei - Dáwei's outfit here is filled with detail, gold edges are present on the coat as well as his undershirt. White ruffles can be seen on the ends of the sleeves of the coat. Similar white ruffles are also paired with the undershirt. Although it is a casual outfit, since it is meant for his out-of-country trips it is still coloured richly and has an elegant air to it. Dáwei has no problems drawing attention to himself with his choice of clothes.
Jùnrén - Once again we see that the clothing of the younger twin is more relaxed. Out of the country, Jùnrén's casual outfit is quite simple. He wears a plain white long-sleeved shirt, and over that a fine golden vest. His pants are quite comfortable, and are an earthy shade of brown. Black boots adorn his feet, which he probably got from a common shoe-maker down town. In this outfit, Jùnrén can walk around town without drawing much attention to himself easily, which is just how he likes it.

Martial Arts Outfits

When practising their martial arts, the boys wear the same uniform. The shirts they wear are dark gray with light gray sashes, and their pants are white. The only differences between them are their choices of weapon: Dáwei uses a naginata while his brother uses a bo staff.

Personalit(y/ies) : The Huáng twins, though identical in appearance, are almost completely opposite when it comes to their personality.

Dáwei, the older of the two, is more outgoing. He is an extroverted boy with a love of life and attention. He has a large circle of friends, and always seems to be adding more to the bunch. Jùnrén, on the other hand, prefers to keep to himself. He has one or two close friends, and is definitely more introverted. While his brother likes being in the spotlight, Jùnrén would rather stay back and live a quiet existence.

The boys have different goals in life. As the eldest, Dáwei has always dreamed of following in his father's footsteps and becoming the next Emperor. He is quite suited for the role, due to his knowledge and love for the topics of politics and warfare. Almost everyone else in the palace agrees that the boy will be a great ruler when he is able to take the throne. They have high hopes for him. In retrospect, Jùnrén would rather have nothing to do with anything like that. The younger twin is more comfortable with an erhu or a calligraphy brush. The quiet life of an artist is what he dreams of, living a secluded life in the forest far away from the city.

The biggest thing the twins have in common is the love for their family. Their parents mean the world to both of the boys, and without them and their guidance then they surely would be lost. It's easier for them to identify more with their mother by far. The Empress Lixue is a kind and gentle woman, caring not only for her family, but for the people of their country as well. She is respected and adored throughout the entire nation, and many (her sons included) look up to her as a source of inspiration and hope. The twins love her very much. Now with their father, Emperor Sheng, it is a different story. Don't get them wrong - both Dáwei & Jùnrén love their father immensely, but the love between them all is more of a tough love of sorts. The Emperor is naturally hard on the boys, mostly because he expects so much out of them. They probably admire and fear him more than anything else. Sheng is definitely cooler in terms of personality than his wife, and even those throughout Otalin know not to get on the bad side of the emperor. When all is said and done, the twins respect their father and his judgements, as they know he has their best interests in heart.

The last and final thing that should be taken into account about the boys is the bond that they share with each other. It is clear that siblings share a special connection, and identical twins even more so. Neither Dáwei or Jùnrén can picture life without the other. It would be as if they were missing a part of themselves. Sure, they may argue and have their disagreements as all siblings do, but they never last for very long. It's difficult for the two of them to stay mad at each other, since after all, they aren't only brothers - they are best friends. No matter what is thrown at them, the boys will always have that close, one-of-a-kind connection with each other; you can count on that.

History : Chialen has long been under the rule of the Huáng Dynasty. Relatives of the twins can be traced back hundreds and hundreds of years, so far back that some even say their family was the first line of emperors (though that is just rumor). Sheng and Lixue met in their youth. She was the daughter of a prominent government official, and he was the next in line to sit on the throne. Like many others, their marriage was arranged, but unlike others, the match worked really well. Not only did they love each other, but the people of their country loved them as well.

Not long after their marriage, the Empress became pregnant. The various workers and staff of the palace, naturally, went into a frenzy after hearing the news. Her Highness would be having a child! The Emperor might have an heir to the throne after all, and so soon, too! How wonderful. Once the news was out to the palace, it wasn't long until it was out to the general public, either. Everyone in the country seemed excited and anxious for the birth of the baby. Undoubtedly, it would be the most anticipated baby in the country! The birth would be a moment to remember, and for sure would be in history books for years to come!

And what an event it was! Lixue ended up going into labour on a cool spring morning. The birth itself was difficult. As his wife delivered their child, all Emperor Sheng could do was wait outside. He ended up sitting there for five hours before the family physician opened the door and walked out. Exhausted, the doctor informed the Emperor that his wife was fine and that she was just tired from the delivery. Anyone would be after delivering twins, he told Sheng. Twins! Not one child, but two; something like this had never happened in the history of the kingdom before! They weren't just any twins, either: they were twin boys! The Emperor had never felt so thrilled. This was the best day of both his and the Empress's lives!

Life was good for the boys growing up. They both had very privileged childhoods as princes of Chialen. Their days were rich and eventful from studying with private tutors to martial arts lessons with the masters. One thing their mother made sure of is that her sons wouldn't be ignorant of the world around them. For that reason, she allowed them to go out of the palace and explore the cities and area around the kingdom. This, probably more than anything else, proved beneficial to their growth, for it enabled them to see how things really were in the world. It wasn't always glittering with gold like they were subject to in the grandeur of their home.

Everything was fine in their lives until the twins turned sixteen. That was the day that their father would make the decision as to whom would be the next in line for the throne. Naturally, everyone assumed that Dáwei, the eldest of the twins, would be the one to succeed his father. Emperor Sheng, however, had other plans in mind. In a private meeting with his boys their father exclaimed that Jùnrén, the younger of the twins, would become the next emperor. As would be expected, this came as a shock to the both of them. Dáwei became furious that his brother had gotten what he thought was rightfully his, and Jùnrén became terrified. The last thing he ever expected to become was the ruler of a country!

This event would play a pivotal role in the brother's lives, as it was the thing that triggered the manifestation of both their daemons. After their father's decision, they are now trying to cope with the situation and move on in the best way possible, whatever that may be.
